    I have one of these too. I bought it because of the upgraded suspension. I love everything on the bike except the seat, so I replaced it with a Corbin saddle. I don't feel the throttle is grabby, and I love the midrange power even if it means I wouldn't have the power at redline. Since that is in squid territory, and I ride to relax, this is perfect for me.

    Agree with you on power Peter ~ enough is sufficient! We can become obsessed with quoting numbers; but you just look as though you're simply enjoying your bike. That's what it's all about.

      @herrtomas6729 Great point. I agree that if the bike is fun to ride and does what you want, that is what matters the most, more than trying to be the fastest or best bike.

      Yeah, and my Jeep has 375 hp and 470 lb-ft of torque, but I've driven cars with less power that are WAY more enjoyable to drive. Same thing with driving a Mazda Miata. It has economy car power numbers, but its light weight and gearing make it incredibly enjoyable to drive. So spec sheet figures don't usually translate to fun factor. High horsepower can mean high speed, but it doesn't mean high fun. Most people I know would take high fun over high specs and no fun.

      Seen the Cycle World vid and Missendon Flyer. I've been looking at buying a bike, as I need to have another before I'm too old. Coming from my earkiest riding days in the 80s, this thing ticks all the boxes for me, a perfect blend of old and new, Kawasaki have captured the form of the early Z's perfectly. But adding all round Öhlins and Brembos, just sells it for me. I think I'd look to having a Yoshimura, or some kind of narrow, shorty pipe like folks used to install on Z650's, Z1R's etc. Because NOTHING beats the sound of a Kwak big 4, with that sweet burble, which becomes a whistling snarl with some wrist! Only thing I don't like with '24 model is the longer, bulkier rear numberplate cowl, it was much more subtle on the previous models, like the '22. But that could be remedied by me. I'd also revisit that old trend, of having the aluminium Big engine cases, stripped and polished, and custom radiator guard. I could even swap out those bars for a set of Renthal fat bars, just to slightly flatten the bar height by 20mm or so, because I'm 6 foot, so reach wouldn't be too big if a deal. I really can't wait.

    At 17 years old I had the 1980 Kawasaki LTD 1000, so a was real curious about this bike. The sound of the inline 4 brought some good old memories, and remided me of its power. Pretty cool to see a bike review on a road I also ride quite often, coming from Grand Falls I love to ride the 105. At 60 I now own a 2015 KLR 650 and resentty added a 2008 HD Ultra Classic. I'm sure you will get great enjoyment from the 900 and make awsome memories. Another great video Peter.

    Hello Peter! Great points you brought up during your ride, about the bike! I also own the 2022 SE version, and I agree with every positive point you brought up!! This is a fabulous machine, and I absolutely love the total bike! I am extremely happy I went Kawasaki, and especially the SE version for all the reasons! My bike is also without that "snatchy" throttle syndrome! The power is unreal, and the torque is incredible! A very comfortable bike to ride! I am also a "fair weather" rider, and the tires perform extremely well! I personally say, this is 1 fabulous motorcycle, my 7th, and it does not disappoint!

    Z900rs 2022 candy tone blue bought in Feb. 2022, with 13.000 km now. No snatchy throttle whatsoever. Very smooth. Also no heat issues from previous model years (smaller radiator).

    Nice video and review. I wonder if Kow did this by design, or accident, but the yellow stripe on the tank aligns perfectly with the contour of the handlebars, to create the illusion of a matching yellow strip on the bars. Sweet!

    I love my 18 Jaffa. It’s a keeper. I will get an Ohlins shock and 320mm Brembo discs , more for the bling than being necessary. I smoothed out my throttle, and gave even more grunt by switching to a 46psi fuel pump regulator from the stock 43psi….she runs a tad lean through the range thanks to euro regs. Also runs cooler with the 46psi regulator.

    G'day Pete, greetings from Australia. You mentioned the review of the Cafe version and I had my heart set on getting one, but unfortunately we do not get that model brought into the country anymore. I have no idea why!! So, to celebrate my upcoming 65th birthday, I have ordered the SE "Fireball". I like the better suspension set-up and as you mentioned, the Brembo braking system. Really looking forward to having the "Zed"RS-SE in my garage next to my Enfield 650 Inteceptor. Great review brother, stay safe and have fun. Cheers.

      Interesting that the Cafe model isn't available anymore... I think you'll love the SE. I've heard the yellow paint scheme referred to as Yellow Ball in the past but they don't do that in Canada. I think that's a British thing, mostly.

    Just got the 2024. Great bike. I found that ear plugs really help me enjoy the ride better when riding at higher speeds. I feel less tired without the loud buffeting sound in my ears. I also have a 2023 Cafe. Suspension is softer than the SE. Both are great bikes but the SE just me moves me in a way the Cafe can not. Neither model have what I consider a snatchy throttle. Enjoy the ride.

    Ive done close to 20000 miles on my 2019 z900rs and still love it. I use to to commute to work no matter the weather. The only issues I have had with it is a rear tire pop, loose chain and the rev idle tickover being too low causing it to stall. Valve service is coming up though which is a bit dear.
    I would 100% recommend replacing the tires. I have michellin road 5 tires. It really does level up the handling off the bike.

    My 2024 Z900RS SE tnrottle is smooth. At 170 pounds I needed to soften up the front and rear suspension. The Dunlop tires let the bike down a bit in the turns. I agree the power is excellent for everyday riding.

    Nice review! I have a 23’ Cafe and It’s amazing. It does have the snatchy throttle but it’s not severe. The only time I really notice it is when I ride another bike and jump back on the Z.
    When I did a proper clutch/free play adjustment It got way smoother tho 🤷‍♂️.
    Also when I test rode the Standard red version I didn’t notice it. My friend has the 22’ Blue/Yellow color and it has it.

      My 2023 cafe has a snatchy throttle but I only notice it going very slow in a low gear when you're not looking to twist

    Lovely bike. Absolutely one of the best retro style bikes. People often confuse a snatchy throttle action with poorly adjusted chains.

      Most riders don't leave enough slack, be about at least 5/8 to 1" at the midpoint.

    Sounds like you are rather happy with your Z900RS SE, Peter!
    Congrats on your bike as well as the add ons.
    I have got the one without the SE package, got mine in NOV 22, rode 15.000 (as of yesterday) on it.
    It's power is sufficient for most folks but performance junkies 😊.
    My brother has got the ZH2, after test riding a Z900RS SE he most probably will get one of these, too.
    No snatchy throttle on my 22 (non SE version), but good enough fun when pulling on the cable.
    I replaced the OEM Dunlop Sport 2 with a set of Pirelli Angel 2, couldn't be happier.
    As for the saddle comfort: no problems witj it even after 800 km rides it feels almost like a sofa, especially when compared with the GPZ 900R back in the mid 80s 😊.
    Looking forward to your future Z900RS SE VDOs, especially the mileage (it's a Fahrenheitor's expression, not sure it applies to you Canadians, too😅) would be interesting (as well as the Michelin tire of your choice experience).

    Good job on the review! I’m kinda being torn between getting a like 2020 verys 1000 or get this bike. I’m 6’4 with 34 inch seam. What are your opinions of the two bikes?

    I picked up a '22 Yellowball last spring here in Canada and I like it too. There was no doubt the SE was worth the extra $ , I like the suspension and the brakes...both are excellent. The bike as it comes is a perfect all round street bike. Comfortable to ride , great handling, and plenty of power. Plenty of sport available for sure. Insurance is relatively low cost. I don't plan on making any changes to it it is good the way it is. Im satisfied with the tires, when it's time to change there will be plenty of choices.

      That pretty much sums up my experience with it too. Great as is. Tires weren't nearly as bad as I feared (for on-road use... I haven't tried them on a track) and the power, handling, comfort, braking, sound, and style are all great! I really love this bike!

    I’m still riding my first bike, 65 hp and 59 lb ft torque. I’m using all of it and wishing I had more now. I love that bike and will be keeping it, but I want something a little more spirited for the twisties and the remote highways, but still comfortable for six hour rides. Yammie Noob called this bike “sedate” and I’m just having a hard time wrapping my head around that assessment. Your review is kind of what I expected to hear. Seems like this would be perfect for my next step in terms of performance and comfort.

      Yammie noob has an extremely popular RUclips channel, but some views that I don't agree with at all. We all have our biases, but I find that I disagree with him on a lot of pretty basic things.

    Great review Peter i have the same bike here in the UK and no snatchy throttle to speak of only a tad here and there which is no issue to work around just being gradual with the throttle to help. Hate the heated grip module too much of a stretch the other controls on that side and the on off switch feels cheap which has broken already and waiting on a warranty repair. Done nearly 7000 miles in 7 months didn't like the Dunlops fitted S22s which were awesome to over 4000 miles and now on Road 6 due to time of year and should get twice the mileage. Bike always creates interest when ever you park up always a cause for friendly chat and a great bike for everyday road riding and touring depending on which seat in used standard or low, low looks great but hurts after a couple of hours. Ive had many top spec bikes in the last few years but this Z900RS makes me want to ride much more often for some reason it just gives me that buzz I've been missing for a while probs less tech to play with more riding and noticing the surroundings. I fitted a small fly screen it doesn't seem to make much difference other than sending the bugs up to my visor oh and keeps the rain of my clocks that's about it. Thumbs up review look forward to the next one.👍

    Really nice bike I’ve been trying to buy one but everyone that comes in to the dealers are sold out, one dealer is trying to find one for me , I found a couple but there like a day ride to get there, guess I should just wait , every time I rush into something I regret it

    My 2020 has that snatchy throttle, but I was able to resolve it with a G2 throttle sleeve.

    I just put a deposit on a z900rs se. Selling a vstrom 1050 xt to replace it in my stable. The xp/torque curves are nearly identical on the 2 bikes. That's saying a lot for the Z 900, because the vstrom's big honkin vtwin is no slouch. Only reason i'm selling the vstrom is i bought a 2023 goldwing. The Z will be for short rides, gw for long rides. If you had to use 1 bike for both, it would be vstrom hands down.

    Hi Peter, thanks for sharing. I have some back/neck issues and I need the bike to be quite comfortable. You say it is but also firm and sporty. I am about to give my Versys 650 which is perfect in comfort and try to figure out what to purchase between the Z900 RS SE or the NINJA 1000 SX . Regretfully here in Greece (yes) there are no test rides available since the Covid from Kawasaki so I rely on reviews checking all I can find in the web. I appreciate your reply.

      I love both the bikes that you're considering. The Ninja will have more wind protection, and it's probably a better buy, but the Z900RS SE is just an absolute pleasure for regular riding and it looks great! I had a Versys 650 before the Z900RS SE and I miss the lockable hard luggage, but the power, sound, and feel of my current bike are all reasons that I love it. It's not nearly as practical as the Versys though. The Ninja would offer some of the same practicality if you spring for the luggage.

    I like the delicate cast wheels look. Mimicking a spoke appearance.
    I’d like Crome radiator end shrouds.
    Center stands are practical but detract from lines.
    Brake reservoir is too prominent on bars.
    Overall a gorgeous machine.
    I think more stylish Crome mirrors with oval streamlined lines.
    I’ve ordered one and I’m excited to put machine through paces. Possible upgrade tires but not till after break in procedure.
    Begs for an aftermarket muffler sound. Perhaps carbon fiber look.

      There are some great pictures and videos online of the subtle and outrageous mods that people have made to these bikes. That's what is so great about them. For a modern bike, it really is easy to modify.
      I thought I'd want to upgrade the tires but they've been good in my mostly dry weather riding. I was actually impressed with how the centre stand was pretty hidden, and to me, the bike has just the right amount of chrome. Side note, I think the intake and exhaust noises are fantastic.
      To each their own, but I don't think you can go wrong with this bike.

      @@PeterLoweOne UK. Before the map, it was awful, lots of driveline shunt at light throttle as the fuelling was on then off regardless of revs. With a map it's awesome.

    How does it feel for taking a passenger along on it i had a Kawasaki 350-3 years ago in 1974 and it screamed ran great and I was just a kid i think i was around 12 years old and love your videos

      Thanks for your kind words! This bike has all kinds of power and a nice spacious seat, so it's going to be nothing like your older bike. It's not a Goldwing for the passenger, but I think it's an above average bike for a passenger when you compare the level of sportiness that it provides.

    Im thinking of buying an SE and tried a new one with 80 miles on last week and the bike definitely has a snatchy throttle,took a bit of time to get used to it but it put me off a little to be honest

    A lot of people of "our vintage" seem to really like this bike. TMF in the UK just bought one and I have a hankering for one also. I'm also in Canada - what gloves are you wearing in winter? I'm in Ontario and generally don't ride much after mid-November and start again in mid-March/April snow/ice permitting.

    Have you noticed a roughness in changing gears? I have noticed the gear changes have gotten tighter and a bit rougher between every gear both up and down on mine. I do ride mine quite hard. This is the first "sport" bike I have had. Coming from a cruiser and ADV

    I rode a 22 dealer demonstrator 900RS, & it didn't have a snatchy throttle & neither has the 20 bike I've just purchased...

    So tempted by this bike but a bit unsure. I need a one and done bike. I rode mopeds years ago, but this will be my first. However, I don't have the option to upgrade. Can this be a one and done bike?

      It can absolutely be that. Add a windshield and tour... It's already a sport bike... It's comfortable... That alone fits several bike categories. Add in that it's stylish, sounds good, and has decent safety features like variable traction control, Brembo brakes with ABS etc. It's a good bike!

    When you mention other reviewers said a snatchy throttle, do you mean the bike is really jolty/jumpy at lower speeds and not smooth? Good to hear yours is not like that. Great dog at the end!

      The transition from on to off can be abrupt, but mine doesn't have that issue at all, it's excellent. Yeah, I thought the dog might chill out off camera, but he's still a pup, so sometimes his need for attention matters more than anything that I'm supposed to be doing! Thanks for watching!

      @@PeterLoweOne Okay, cool, thanks for explaining the snatchy throttle they were talking about. The Ninja 650 '21 has a hint of that at idle speed (1 to 8 mph), so when I'm making a tight right turn from a traffic light, I just pull in the clutch now once it gets going (with my two gloved fingers ready for the brake if needed).
      And it coasts way smoother at 8 mph than the engine without touching the throttle, which gets way too jumpy at that low speed if I try to increase the throttle slightly, which I would call snatchy at that point. Everything above that idle range is great. Great to hear you bike doesn't have that. Thanks.

    I wonder which would be less expensive: Buy the Cafe and add Brembo and Ohlins, or buy the SE and add the fairing. Because that would be perfect for me - SE spec with that gorgeous Cafe fairing.

      These handlebars won't fit the fairing, so you'd have to swap out the handlebars as well.

    I have a Z650 RS anniversary edition and my throttle is god awful probably why after 14 months the bike has 400 miles on it.Glad yours is fine, my ZX6R throttle turned to butter with an ECU tune, hesitant to do it with the 650.

      I have the 23 Z 650 I think it’s the because it’s cable operated throttle, it really the only thing I don’t like about both bikes.

      I felt the same about my 650RS when I first got it. I have done the 600 mile service and am now at 1300 miles. The snatchy throttle problem has disappeared for me. I either adapted to it or something in the throttle mechanics had to break in.

      So the "snatchy throttle" can also be experienced due to a different issue. The snatchy throttle on the Z900RS is most likely due to emissions regulations... long story... but on the 650, we've seen poorly adjusted throttle/throttle cables on bikes from the factory. My dealers always checks and adjusts these, I'm not sure that other dealers do that. I'd start there with the Z650's.

    Did you change the entire seat to that one piece style? About to pickup a z400 and that seems ideal for a big guy like me, 6'2"+ and 270lbs.

    The "snatchy throttle" is not an issue, at all. You get used to the sensitivity in a short time. This is a very user-friendly bike.

    Well I don’t like modifying new motorcycle engines but I think the ECU flash on this bike is definitely a good idea not only for little extra power and ride ability but also for keeping engine cooler and and making it last longer. The emission tune they come with from factory is just not good for the engine and takes some performance away

      It sounds like you haven't ridden my bike. While I agree that this bike makes less peak horsepower than a Z900, it actually makes peak torque earlier in the rev range. I ended up buying this bike, and it doesn't have any of the issues that you talk about. Check out my riding review on this channel where I talk about how this bike has none of the issues that others have talked about. It doesn't have a snatchy throttle, it doesn't run hot, and it seems to be perfectly dialed in. I don't wish for more power as it's really set up well for great power everywhere you would need it for on road riding.

      100% I sent mine to Ivan and it transformed the bike! Response now feels like like perfectly dialed carburetors, it's that good.

    How do you like the seat? I have a Z650RS and find the seat rather uncomfortable after about two hours.
    The seat looks like an upgrade from the 650. Just wondering if it feels any better.

      I do think it is an upgrade from your bike. I have no issues with the seat at all, but when I was out for a 6 hour drive ( 3 hours one way, two hour break, and 3 hours back) last Saturday, I did find myself needing a break for a bit on the way home... But I don't think that's the seat, I think it's just my middle aged body needing to stretch and walk.

      I can't drive an Escalade for greater than 3 hours. Had a Road Glide, couldn't go more than about two hours on that.

    Didn't watch the whole video, had to go to work. Maybe I shouldn't comment, but here goes. Have a '22 candytone blue regular RS with about 15k miles on it. Took it on a 2.5k mile trip last summer and about 50 mpg. Non Brembos and Ohlins, but I hate to say it, your typical rider won't know the difference. Powerwise, not as fast as my regular Z900 but still thrilling. Any bike that all plugged up runs low 11's ain't slow. I know this bike will be fun, good looking and dependable. What more do you want?

      While I agree that the average rider may not know the difference between the Ohlins shock and the Brembo brakes. There are two areas where the average rider will notice. 1) the confidence that this bike gives you when you're going around a high speed corner on a bumpy road is REALLY impressive. The Ohlins shock definitely makes a difference in that situation, it's glued to the road as if the pavement is smooth, so while you feel the bumps, you have no fears about needing to slow down or feeling like the tire isn't going to be glued to the road. So that's a really impressive thing that the average rider would feel, but may not immediately tie to the suspension. 2) The Brembo brakes have great feel. People may or may not perceive the stopping power or the precision in your control of the brake, but there's definitely a difference in feel on the Brembo brakes with braided steel lines.
      So yes, the average person may not notice, but that doesn't mean that the average person would not benefit. Sometimes it takes pointing things out for people to know what the differences are, but I'm always cautious when I hear that "the average person won't" because I feel like that implies that there isn't a difference. There is, but you're right, not everyone will identify the difference immediately.

      Enjoy your bike, it doesn't have to be the SE for me to agree that it's a fantastic bike!

    Well this snatchy throttle phenomenon with the Kawasaki Z900 RS SE is very odd! Another RUclips channel “ The MAM Journals” (Michael Mam) owns a Z900 RS SE and he says his bike has a snatchy throttle but is not as pronounced as his previous Kawasaki Z900 RS. Michael is very knowledgeable and passionate about motorcycles and I believe he always gives a very honest opinion.

      Yeah, Michael has some great videos. From what I can guess, either the North American SE models, (2022 and newer) have different settings, or there is some inconsistency along the way. Most North American reviews that I've seen of this exact model (the SE model) seem to acknowledge that the snatchy throttle that was present on older non SE models isn't really an issue on these ones. Nobody seems to have a good answer as to why. I can tell you that mine definitely doesn't have that issue.

      Thank you for your reply. Another reviewer from Canada BlueMarbleRider seems to think the throttle issue on some Kawasaki Z900 RS is perhaps due to air temperature. He experiences less fuelling problems at lower temperatures. For motorcycle manufacturer engineers emissions must be a nightmare!

      I "don't" have a snatchy throttle on mine. Also, there are no ride modes on this motorcycle.

    Have an SE 2023 too since 2 weeks , throttle is really bad, def has a snatchy throttle…and vibrations are very clear around 4500rpm. Belgian model, so maybe it is an eu thing.

      This is puzzling me also. I have a EU5 SE version (as sold in the UK) and it has a very definite on/off throttle. You can sometimes ride around it, especially in high revs, but in addition it has poor city speed fueling, and severe power cut off. Feedback from the Z900RS forum would suggest that the very high percentage of SE holders, both 22 and 23, have the very digital on/off throttle. So there is nothing unique about the SE in that regard. It is generally a confusing picture though as, on face value, some RSs do seem to have this issue where others do not, and rider behaviour and skills cannot account for that. For those that do have the issue, fitting the 16T front sprocket significantly improves the issue, and the all-round characteristics of the bike.

      Actually yes! That's what we're taught in Canada and around the world. I'm not saying it sounds right, but the ABC song is American. The rest of the world uses it, but most of the rest of the English speaking world says Zed, not zee. I'm always surprised at how much that bothers Americans.

      I've never ridden a 1980 CBX 1000. When I was 16 I almost bought a CBX 250! I will say that I absolutely love my Z900RS SE though! Great bike!

    I had a 2018 Z900 RS and the throttle was so snatchy it was almost unrideable. I owned another Kawasaki that did not have that issue.

      Yeah. My throttle has been great, I can't seem to narrow down where the change happened with this bike, but I know most of the originals had the issue in 2018 and mine doesn't have it.

    Love this bike but really don't care very much for this yellow on black paint option. Since Kawasaki have clearly taken a lot of trouble to replicate the original concept of the Z1 why the hell have they phased out the yellow on green paint scheme.

      There is a 12 volt port underneath the seat. You could route that power up to the dash without too much trouble.
      Cruise control won't happen on this bike without an electronic throttle. A quick shifter would have been nice though.

    Beautiful scenery, but the roads are third world. Unfortunately, you might need to trade-in that beautiful bike for a KLR 650.

      Haha. The problem is that I had to voice-over things. I took the "bad roads" to make a point about how the suspension really does a fantastic job of giving confidence even over rough roads in corners. It would have made more sense if I didn't have to voice over, but because I had the microphone issue, I ended up doing it like this. I'll be able to show much better scenery, and much better roads in a future video.

      I don't mind it on this bike because the look is very much retro, and the riding experience is the same, except you feel like a superhero because you can control this bike so much easier than a true retro bike. But yeah, I would have an issue with having one on this bike. Compared to the Ninja 1000, this is definitely down on features for the dollar.
