The Carrick Bend (ABOK

In "The Arts of the Sailor", Harvey Garrett Smith says of the Carrick Bend:
"This is the nearest thing to the perfect bend. There is no other so strong or secure, and it can be untied quickly and easily. It is a heavy-duty bend, highly recommended for towing lines and moorings"
A knot which receives such high praise is surely one to include in your bag of tricks!
