Learn to Tie the Zeppelin Bend and Zeppelin Loop!
Просмотров 938Год назад
Correction: At 1:46 I say "...a pair of overhand loops..." when I meant to say "...a pair of overhand KNOTS" A viewer got me thinking about non-jamming fixed loops, which prompted me to finally learn a Zeppelin Loop. The Zeppelin bend is a favorite of mine, as it strikes a near perfect balance of strength, security (even in relatively slippery modern cordage), and jam resistance. No matter how ...
Master the Alpine Butterly Knot!
Просмотров 1 тыс.Год назад
The Alpine Butterfly Knot forms an excellent loop which can be tied in the middle of a line. It retains a good portion of the strength of the line, and is relatively secure, although under some conditions it will slip below the breaking strength of the line. Harry Asher says of the Alpine Butterfly Knot: "Mountaineers use this loop round the chest, and it is one that is hard to beat for general...
Cowboy Up! Honda Knot and Lasso
Просмотров 568Год назад
The Honda knot is the loop knot most commonly associated with the Cowboy Lasso. It consists of a pair of overhand knots; one holds the loop open, and another secures it. The Honda's most desirable feature is it's tendency to remain open in a nearly circular shape, which allows the stiff natural fiber rope of the lasso to pass through without binding.
Don't Mess With Perfection! (Perfection Loop / Angler's Loop)
Просмотров 1,8 тыс.Год назад
ABOK #1017 The Perfection Loop, also known as the Angler's Loop, is a high friction fixed loop which can be tied in both the end and the bight. It is suitable for fishing lines, slippery synthetic ropes, and even bungee chords (!), but should not be tied in natural fiber ropes as it is prone to jamming in them. Clifford Ashley says of it: "The Angler's Loop has the best lead of any loop, and is...

    Oh man, the double left hand turn method is just so satisfying to watch. I need to try that. I think that might be my new way to prefer tying these.

    Apart from the a well-explained description what makes this video superb are the practical usages so that you can see where you would use this special knot. Always wondered why this knot isn't featured more often.

    I just found your channel. It's a shame it hasn't been updated in a year. Hopefully your lack of uploading isn't because you ended up stabbing yourself with a Marlin spike. I cringed every time you pulled the Marlin spike with the point on the thumb side of your hand. 😮 Good information and you have a good speaking voice. It's a shame you don't have more videos.

    5:08 so far what I've heard was that one or the other in terms of regular use strength are similar, with much of the same strengths and weaknesses. One major advantage is a far better ring loading capacity whereas the regular bowline will collapse as it loses much of its grip. A minor advantage is the cowboy bowline' working end being on the outside so it won't get caught in the loop. Another perhaps curious mention I've heard is an old tale of the loop in the outside would catch wind and stop it freezing to the rope, how much of its is worthy or even true... :)

    You can add caribiners to reduce friction and also a prusic connected to something on the pulling string as a safety. That way if you're lowering something imporant, it can't smash to the floor if the rope slips.

    I’m looking at your tackle arrangement at about 2:00 . You do have a 4:1, however, it’s pulling on the 2:1 on the right. Would that not make it a total of 8:1 ??

    • @yakinsea
      @yakinsea 9 дней назад

      That would be the case in a complex mechanical system, but this is just a simple (ie block and tackle) mechanical system. Therefore, you simply add all the strands that are shortening including the free end that is being pulled on. That makes this a 5:1 mechanical advantage.

    To my mind the Honda knot needs far more attention, it is the best adjustable knot I have ever come across. I think it is probable that the rope will break before it slips and it is incredibly easy to tie. The old archers used this knot on their bows. I havn't investigated whether it is difficult to untie after a heavy load has been applied though.

  • @UniteForgetLeftRight

    This is cool as hell. I work in a shipyard so we use chainfalls and comealongs all the time but there are rare occasions where we need one but none are available. Obviously this can't take alot of weight but there are alot of situations where we need a good strong tug on something to get it unbound

    • @canyouknot
      @canyouknot Год назад

      I would rarely use this over the Alpine Butterfly for day to day applications, but it has its uses.. It's a bit more secure than the Butterfly (the Alpine Butterfly will pull tight under heavy loads), and it has bias toward one side which is handy when tying something like the versatackle. ruclips.net/video/yvWgOStVmeQ/видео.html

      You don't have to do anything special. When you pull on the working end, the second turn will naturally slip under the first turn and it will lock.
