Agree 100%: I'd say the charismatic delivery makes a huge difference. Yeah, the other beauty critic wasn't conventionally attractive, but I think her dry delivery was what really made the difference. She probably could've riled up a sweet yet sassy grandma kind of commentary and easily gotten the same kind of acceptance of the 'criticism' that this guy here got. Personality makes a huge difference, how you deliver feedback makes a huge difference.
I'd still take the woman's feedback over the guy's, because I feel like I'd be confused by the feedback the guy gave me. I'd easily miss that the guy would be telling me to get a hair cut, or underestimate how badly I needed to improve something like my walk or my smile. Maybe it'd be different if the guy's a personal agent and can organize the improvements, but from a personal "I want to do this thing to come out knowing what I need to do to be as attractive as I can be" standpoint, I think I'd have a stronger understanding from the earlier critic's feedback.
But most won't, because dry feedback, even if it's tact and organized, isn't as well designed in presentation, and that sandwich technique makes a huge difference even if it completely undermines the straightforwardness of criticism.

Right. It's like how when you have an endoscopy they are actually trained to leave the camera inside you for a while because ending the experience with a drawn out low-level discomfort leaves you with a measurably better impression than a shorter overall experience which had a higher percentage of worse discomfort closer to the end.

I loved working in the trades largely because of that attitude. When things went poorly it was "you f'ed up this or you're sh*t at that" but then someone would show you how to fix it and you'd get on with it. Conversely when you did something right you'd get acknowledgment and be given the opportunity to share with other less experienced people.
Seems the rigid hierarchy of a lot of work places gets in the way of this (ie co workers get in trouble for pointing out incompetence and trying to correct it, managers don't acknowledge poor work unless they directly see it, and when something does get addresses the language used is often so soft it fails to fix the issue or really hold a person accountable)

Yeah, it's all about how the person being judged judges the other person. Even if you are not personally judgmental, you still have a predictive idea of how other people will judge a person, so if someone who isn't conventionally attractive according to social standards is judging you negatively you're immediately frustrated because it feels similar to betrayal or something. Especially if you have struggled because of your looks and the other person got ahead in spite of them.
