Raydio were a great band, in 1980 they changed their name to Ray Parker Jr and Raydio. Other great tracks to check out by them, 'Jack and Jill', 'This is a Love Thing', 'More Than One Way to Love a Woman', 'Rock On', 'For Those Who Like to Groove', 'Two Places At the Same Time', there are other tracks but these are some of my favourites.
Ray Parker, Jr. is a really great artist, he is SO MUCH MORE than that goofy Ghostbusters song. His best work is in Raydio and as a solo artist. He had many hits in the late 70s through the mid 80s. Love this song 🎵
We knew Raydio would be something BIG when they first showed up on the charts back in early 1978 with their hit "Jack and Jill". They had a unique sound and the guys voices were so smooth.
Great reaction. Such a great song and a great group. Such a great song from 1979. Jack and Jill from 1978 is another great song by this group as well. Thank You.
"You Can't Change That" is one of my favorite songs from Raydio. If you like this one, you should listen to their song, "A Woman Needs Love (Just Like You Do)." It has a similar musical feel to this. The song is basically a message to all the guys that if you don't give your woman love and devotion, she'll get it from someone else. It was written as an answer to an earlier Raydio song, titled "Jack and Jill" (also a great song from them.) That song describes how "Jack" is lonely and wanders down the hill to find love elsewhere after being neglected by "Jill," who is seldom home.
YES!!!!! Haven't even watched the reaction yet, but I had to comment. Ray Parker Jr. had so many great songs with Raydio and as a solo artist besides Ghostbusters. Two that should be on your list are Jack And Jill, and The Other Woman.
Ray Parker was the first lead singer for this song but the other lead singer is so passionate with his expressions and vocals. I love this song so much. Thank you guys. Also, Amber. I think you need to listen again.. He was saying that no matter what you do he will always love you. Just listen to the words again
Agreed that the song is about loving someone no matter what. But, the lyrics can come off as stalkerish. "You can change your telephone number. You can change your address too".
"Every Breath You Take" by The Police is the ultimate stalker anthem, IMO. We all listened to it back in the day without a second thought! Now it's like 😬
What a wonderful song. Loved hearing it back in the day. I was going to make a pithy comment about "modern audiences" clutching their pearls about the lyrics and then Ambe! Amber! Amber! You go and do it! Girl you need to listen to your man Jay. He's got it right-the man on the song is speaking metaphorically: No Matter what he's in love with the woman and nothing will ever change that. Good on ya Jay.
YES!!!! Love this song! Reminds me of when I would go to the record store as a kid with my mom and she would by the 45s. She loved the song, Jack and Jill, by Raydio. She would play it on Saturdays when we cleaned the house. Thank you for the memories!
What i hear in the song is that he is just listing things she has control to change, her hair, her name, her address, and then saying that one thing she can't change is his love for her. He is not saying he is going to follow her around. I'm glad i grew up in the 70s, a more innocent time, when we heard love in songs, not criminal intent.
LOL You are taking it waay too literal Amber, he's just trying to profess his great love for the girl in a metaphoric manner the way most artists did during those times. This was very popular tune back then. Sometimes your reactions really crack me up. 👍👍👍🤣🤣
I NEVER thought of it like that, but then stalkers weren't really a thing back in the day. I will agree that in modern times it sounds a bit sketchy, though.
This was the JAM in the Summer of '79!🌞 The tenor lead singing the higher notes on "You Can't Change That" is Arnell Carmichael. Ray Parker Jr. is the baritone lead who's playing the bass. You should listen to Raydio's "Jack and Jill" and the funky, bass-heavy "For Those Who Like To Groove". BTW: Ray Parker Jr. is a legendary guitar player and songwriter who has worked with everybody from Aretha Franklin to the Carpenters to Stevie Wonder. ⭐
Jordan's right. The guy didn't say he was pursuing her. He just said that he loves her and that that would continue no matter what she did. Other good songs by Raydio and/or Ray Parker, Jr., besides this one from 1978, are "Jack and Jill" (1978) and "The Other Woman" (1982).
Well done you guys on 2 years covering so much great and varied music, and you have really grown yourselves. Great bassline in this as you say, and smooth. 'Jack and Jill' is another good one by them. For the third year how about some more Dire Straits and 'Private Investigations'-would love to see your reaction-Colin Ward
No, it's not a Stalker song, he's just giving examples of what's changeable as appose to what can't be changed and being his love for her. Check out their song "Jack and Jill" that's another big hit of theirs.
Ray Parker Jr. was also a session guitarist on a bunch of songs, including Want Ads by Honey Cone and Maybe Your Baby by Stevie Wonder, 2 songs you should listen to.
I always related this song to a girl I liked back in 1989-1995. I was also subliminally inspired by this song when I wrote a song for her. The 1st 2 lines of my song are the same, and basically the same melody, just slower. Here's a BANGER from Ray Parker Jr.: "The Other Woman."
If Amber thought this was a little creepy, kind of stalkerish could you see her reaction to "The Other Woman". She would not be wrong in what that is about. Don't know if she would approve considering what she thought of this. Lol
@@lreed1040 Yeah, I mean it's not a stalker song, but it's a "cheating in my mind" song. 😅 I love how it kinda rocks. The electric guitar sounds great throughout.
Ray Parker Jr had an incredible career. At 16 he co-wrote his first song with Marvin Gaye. He performed with many huge stars in his Motown days. Had huge hits with Raydio. Then went solo with a bunch more hits, including the theme from ghost busters!
Ray Parker Jr. also wrote Leo Sayer's 1976 monster hit ("You Make Me Feel Like Dancing"), of which the record label STOLE from him and never gave him songwriting credit. But Leo Sayer tried to make it up to him by letting Ray perform on a few of his other songs......Ray also wrote ("Mr. Telephone Man") for a young New Edition.
@@DGardn100 This is true. However, I bet you didn't know that he was the head chef for Aretha Franklin & the architect for Al Green's first mansion!...............Ok, maybe he wasn't Al's architect, but that house was TOO ugly ('cause he decided to let Ray Charles do it instead)....OK, forget all that and let's go with (guitarist for Stevie's band), but when George Clinton needed a chiropractor, "who you gon' call?" _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ ......I'm just sayin'!
I didn’t recognize the band name Raydio, but I definitely remember this song!🎵 🎶 A great beat, cool😎 voice singing🎤! Having fun listening to you two!👏👏
Ray Parker Jr. is pretty much the black Glen Campbell. He started off as a sought after guitar player for Stevie Wonder, Barry White, Marvin Gaye, and also played rhythm guitar for Rufus &Chaka Khan's song You Got The Love. You can see clips of him playing with Stevie Wonder on Sesame Street. He originally intended to give this song to The Spinners but ended up recording it himself. He also wrote Mr. Telephone Man for New Edition.
True! Tom T. Hall's " That's How I Got to Memphis " comes to mind. The cover by Sid Selvidge is one of my all-time favorite songs because of the beautiful vocals, but the lyrics by today's standards are downright creepy. " if you love somebody enough, you will follow wherever they go "?!?
Great reaction. Lots of hits from Raydio & Ray Parker Jr from the late 70's to the mid 80's. In the video, Ray Parker Jr. was the guy with the guitar in the center, not the one that was singer most of the song. Jerry Knight was a member of Raydio and went on to form Ollie & Jerry and had a hit record called "Breakin, There's No Stoppin Us". Check it out sometime. Thanks.😎

Lead singer is Ray Parker. A great writer, producer, musician, and singer! This was a great group. Thank you
Ray Parker, Jr.! ❤
On this song, Ray Parker Jr. is a support/backing lead, not *the* lead singer.
The lead singer is Arnell Carmichael
Ray was also a top studio musician who played on many albums
We knew Raydio would be something BIG when they first showed up on the charts back in early 1978 with their hit "Jack and Jill". They had a unique sound and the guys voices were so smooth.

Definitely has a Billy D. Williams vibe going in this video 🥰
I haven't heard this in DECADES! Thanks for the walk down memory lane and enjoyable reaction. 😁
That backup singers in this song takes the lead in Jack and Jill. MAGNIFICENT
He did a fantastic job. All of them are very talented. They just can't do stuff like this anymore.
Arnell Carmichael was the main lead of this song and in the orange outfit, and did a great job! I always enjoyed Raydio!
Great reaction. Such a great song and a great group. Such a great song from 1979. Jack and Jill from 1978 is another great song by this group as well. Thank You.

Thanks guys for another feel good classic. I really appreciate people as young as you keeping these songs alive awhile longer. Thanks Jay and Amber 😊.

One of my all time favorites!!!!
Every member of Raydio had a GREAT singing voice and their harmonies were SOOOOOO good

The late 70s had such a great variety of music. Raydio had a few big ones and then Ray Parker had a few of his own in the 80s.
