If you don't already realize it, your built in audience of "boomers" is enjoying your discovery and appreciation of the music of our time. The 50's, 60's, and 70's produced some of the best music. The one thing most everyone recognizes and longs for is...nostalgia. We covet the feeling/memories of our past thru music. As you progress thru the years and decades, you may come to realize that also. So many of us out here in internet land who now longer get out as much are living somewhat vicariously thru your discoveries and appreciations....Peace to you both
I agree.... there is something very heart warming to see younger folks discover and experience great music from an era long gone by,....especially considering the music of the current times- and I'm sorry for saying this, hope I'm not showing my " you kids get off my lawn" attitude here, but current day music lacks the magic that it once contained. And for the record, although I'm almost 60 now...I'd consider myself less a 'boomer' per se, more a 'rattler'...just because of how my bones sound when I try to walk...lol 😆
McCoo and Davis will celebrate their 53rd wedding anniversary in July! Also, let me suggest Moonlight Feels Right by Starbuck because it has some of the same jazzy instrumentation. Try it.
growing up, i had a red 8 track w/ this song, and the very next song on it was Moonlight Feels Right by Starbuck...then i think Peter Brown's "Do You Wanna Get Funky". wow, memories!
Here is your answer:- Marilyn McCoo is married to fellow 5th Dimension bandmate Billy Davis Jr. On July 26, 2019, they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.
This song is by the husband & wife duo who used to be in the group The 5th Dimension. They were married in 1969 & are still together. They had a great solo career together & this song was a big hit for them. Love their voices together. "Your Love" was another hit for them in 1977.
Marilyn McCoo hosted "Solid Gold" on and off for a good deal of the 80's, so many of us saw her every week. She sang on each show, as well. She was, and somehow still is, a gorgeous woman and a great singer.
Peaches and Herb is another great vocal duo you should look into. Their songs includes: Reunited, We've Got Love, Shake Your Groove Thing, For Your Love and I Pledge My Love, just to name a few.
When they were with the Fifth Dimension, Marilyn sang "Wedding Bell Blues"--you reacted to Laura Nyro's original version a few weeks ago. The song was perfect because she was singing to "Bill"(y) Davis Jr. in 1969--the same year they got married.
Yes, married in 1969 and still going strong. You need to listen to Marilyn's song to Billy "Wedding Bell Blues" In 2021, they put out a new CD of Beatle covers.
I used to be so in love with Marilyn McCoo. Marilyn McCoo and The 5th Dimension have a song called Wedding Bell Blues. She sings about asking Bill when he's going to marry her. I used to replace Bill's name with Dave. When will you marry me Dave.
You should check out the 5th Dimension's version of The Worst That Could Happen to really hear Billy Davis Jr.'s amazing soulful voice. It's often paired with Marilyn singing Laura Nyro's Wedding Bell Blues, but he really kills it.
Marilynn McCoo is one of the most beautiful women and still is. Her voice is incredible as is Billy Davis Jr's. Awesome they are still married after all these year.
I had a big crush on Marylin McCoo when she used to host Solid Gold!. Two beautiful voices. It reminds me of Marvin and Tami's duet on "You're All I Need To Get By".
Their voices are perfect together. I really like the idea of picking a year and doing the number 1 song. BTW Marylin McCoo is one of the all time stunningly beautiful singers. Gorgeous!! Happy to report they are still married!! Since 1969!!! Don't we all wish we could have that?
Some one once told me that the sound track to your life could be found by picking the no#1 song from each year of your life. Cool huh? I was born in 1962.
They got married when they were in the 5th Dimension. You have to listen to their hit "Wedding Bell Blues", where Marilyn McCoo is asking Bill when is he going to marry her...great song.
I remember listening to this sitting in the back of my mums` car ,such a catchy tune ,and yes ,they are so sweet together.(ok so i had to google them ,and ,yey! They`re still married ,aged 78 and 83.That`s true love..and Amber it`s made me smile.xx
Marilyn McCoo is married to fellow 5th Dimension bandmate Billy Davis Jr. On July 26, 2022, they will celebrate their 53rd wedding anniversary. The couple shared their story of love and faith in the 2004 book, Up, Up and Away. They continue to perform together in venues around the country. McCoo is a member of Sigma Gamma Rho sorority. She is an emerita member of the board of directors of the Los Angeles Mission. McCoo and Davis are born-again Christians.
Oh man! Y’all took me back to the skating rink on Friday nights with this throwback! Marilyn and Billy were HUGE stars and made us all believe in true love - just like the two of you. ♥️
M arilyn McCoo and Billy Davis, Jr. have what so many people are searching for, a love that has stood the test of time. Even now 50 years later, they are still very much in love with one another and have an enviable formula for their lasting romance that they share with us.
Billy Davis Jr were both in the 5th Deminsion group then married a few years later. I went to Las Vegas to see the 5th Deminsion and while performing Marilyn Mc Coo came off stage to shake hands with people in the audience and she came to our table in the corner to shake hands with our group when she reaches across the table to shake my hand but didn't let go, she said to me were going to dance the funky chicken on stage at the Riviera Hotel with full house of people ❤
See how pure society was back then. Just imagine a song like that being the number one song of the whole year. No way it would happen now, thats for sure. Those were the good days. I was 16. I wasnt popular at my high school cause I just moved to Texas from Cali, so I didnt know anybody. but I did get a boyfriend and he said this was our song. Boy it brings back memories. Thanks for that. It was a awesome reaction, I enjoyed it.
Marilyn McCoo met Billy Davis Jr. in 1965 when Billy was asked to join McCoo's singing group The Versailles, soon renamed The Fifth Dimension. The Fifth Dimension went on to major commercial success and by 1968 Marilyn and Billy had become romantically involved. They were married in 1969 not long before their group recorded and released "Wedding Bell Blues." This was one of The Fifth Dimension's biggest hits where McCoo asks Davis if he's ever going to marry her. They are still together today after 50+ years of marriage.
According to Wikipedia, this song was written by James Anthony Dean and John Glover. Marilyn McCoo and Billy Davis, Jr. won a Grammy Award for this song for "Best R & B Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocals" in 1977. Marilyn McCoo is 78 years old, and Billy Davis, Jr. is 83 years old.
One of the all-time, best duets in music history, bar none. Love Marilyn McCoo and Billy Davis Jr. And what a happy uplifting song that I personally never tire of hearing....
Marilyn McCoo. What a gorgeous and talented lady. So underrated as were the 5th Dimension. They were YEARS ahead of their time. Wish they would have produced so much more than they did but what we have of them will be remembered for generations. Thanks for pulling this song out for review!
I'm going to guess that most people would say it was the decade when they were in their later teens. It's only after their perspective opens up, if it ever does, that there may be something better out there.
This song is definitely disco. Theyre so lovely together. You need to hear the song from before they were married. It's so sweet called Marry Me Bill. 🥰
The beautiful Marilyn McCoo hosted "Solid Gold" and could sing anything. She made my little teen heart go pitter patter. They are still together, unless one died recently and I missed it.
Not only are Marilyn and Billy still together after 53 years of marriage but I saw them in concert in March and they still sing this song with the same magic. Their love story is the best!
45 years ago in 1977 I graduated from High School. There were so many great hits that year. Creativity in music was moving into it's second phase coming out of the 60's into Disco, Sophisticated Funk and R&B, Love Songs, Heavy Metal and Country and Western. In each genre the lyrics had realistic stories to tell.
This was a great tune not only for their talented vocals and the story of their happy and long-lived marriage, but let's also give credit to hall of famer James Jamerson setting the groove perfectly on bass. The density of talent is so thick, it had to be a huge hit. I was 3 or 4 when I heard it often in my parent's car and loved it at an early age!
Marilyn hosted the music show, SOLID GOLD each week. They showcased the latest top music and Solid Gold Dancers would dance while counting down to the weeks top 10 songs. So many 80s artists were on this show. It would be great if you could find the show somewhere so y'all could see it. One of my favorite 80s shows.

They're such a beautiful couple...BUT DANG, Billy is one LUCKY fella. Imagine having Marilyn McCoo by your side for over 50+ years AND still going strong, WOW!!
Professor of Rock recently did an interview with them on his RUclips channel. It is very interesting to see them today and listen to their memories of a time when they were "Superstars" !
They were both part of the 5th Dimension. Yes they are still together, 53 years in July. I’ve said before, and I have no problem repeating myself, we baby boomers were blessed to grow up with, and during the greatest 25 years, 1955-1980, of music production in the history of the world!
Marilyn Mc Coo & Billy Davis Jr were both in the Fith Deminsion And there still together happily married. I even had the honor to dance with Marilyn Mc Coo on stage on stage at the Riviera Hotel 🙂👍
Cute is them doing 'Wedding Bell Blues' and her singing it to Billy. His reactions are great!! 'One Less Bell to Answer'.... 'If I Could Reach You' is an amazing song by Marilyn solo. Still together after almost 53 years. They sang Silent Night in the updated Walton Christmas movie this past Christmas and sounded GREAT.
They are a beautiful couple, still married today. Some of their best-known songs with The Fifth Dimension are Up Up and Away, Aquarius, and Wedding Bell Blues.
Yes they are still married. What I will say Marilyn is still as stunning today as she ever was. Look up a photo of her today you will not believe your eyes. They also sound terrific.
I was nine when this came out being from a mixed family this is the stuff i heard from my black folks and just hearing this put tears in my eyes people really sang so good back then it was people with a heart not today so much, still live there everyday at 53 with these songs and bands i have never left i live in the 70,s
Yes they are still together and they now sing a lot of Gospel music and they seem to still be crazy about each other...Married for over 50 years and they still look great.

Well said , this is true!
Boomers? Mostly Gen X'ers I would think.
It’s great to see these whippersnappers have their minds blown by the music we grew up with!!

Yes, not sure if it’s a xylophone or marimba solo, but it is definitely one of the most unique solos I’ve ever heard in a song.
Moonlight Feels Right reminds me of my AM radio listening days!
Oh God yes moonlight feels right
Agree I keep asking them to review it! It's a marimba!!
growing up, i had a red 8 track w/ this song, and the very next song on it was Moonlight Feels Right by Starbuck...then i think Peter Brown's "Do You Wanna Get Funky". wow, memories!

Marilyn McCoo hosted "Solid Gold" on and off for a good deal of the 80's, so many of us saw her every week. She sang on each show, as well. She was, and somehow still is, a gorgeous woman and a great singer.
Yes I believe she hosted it with Andy Gibb.
Oh yes, bet you they will love this duo as well, a definite must!!
Oh dayem, I thought I'd recognised her from somewhere else as well. That's awesome, thanks for that.

@@Quartermaster323 Also Captain and Tennille
Yes, there has been a lot of Peaches throughout the years; however, it wouldn't be a Herb without those Peaches. And the music is still the same.
@@stscypollard2376 think about it there would be no group without Herb or there wouldn't been so many Peaches.
Another great song from a husband and wife team was "Solid As A Rock" by Ashford and Simpson from 1984.
And Found a Cure. They were primarily a songwriting team and wrote hits for a lot of Motown artists but they had a few hits of their own.
Don't forget the Sonny and Cher duets.
Omg, love, love, LOVE Solid as a Rock!!!
Ashford and Simpsons best duet -Is it Still Good to Ya?
They wrote most of the Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrel duets.

Yeh, in that song she sang "Bill!" lol. Come on Bill, don;t mess around, marry me, quit stalling.

"Bill! I love you so, I always will...." 😄 Does sound right, doesn't it?
They used that song in a Designing Women episode when Charlene was marrying Bill.
Yes, married in 1969 and still going strong. You need to listen to Marilyn's song to Billy "Wedding Bell Blues" In 2021, they put out a new CD of Beatle covers.
Yeah. Gotta do Wedding Bell Blues
What was that album called? I want to hear it!

This might be the most quintessentially 1970s sound ever. Marilyn McCoo was such a foxxx and the voice of an angel.
And they are still married after 50 years!
My sister says she sees them about once a month at work and they are very sweet people and Marilyn is still gorgeous.
5th Dimension's "Wedding Bell Blues" is her singing her heart out to him, harmonizing along with the group. I'd call it R&B pop. Yeah, it was a flute!
Their voices are perfect together. I really like the idea of picking a year and doing the number 1 song. BTW Marylin McCoo is one of the all time stunningly beautiful singers. Gorgeous!!
