I remember when I was a little freshman I didn't understand what it meant when he said "everyone is just so nice until they drive you to kill yourself" but now that i just graduated I understand I see how simple it actually is.
I know this show probably isn't considered "appropriate" to most schools, but I feel like this should be something teachers have to show their students. Whether it be on free days, or whenever possible. A lot of people just see it as a show, but it's very very real. What happened to Hannah, happens to so many teenagers every day. I personally dealt with similar things as Hannah. From rumors spreading because of ignorant people.. and ignorant people believing the rumors and just being nice to me to see if the rumors were true, to people making excuses for the guy who hurt me and forced me into things I wasn't ready for and making me the bad guy and telling me I deserved it. These things happened all the time to several people. Some people get through it, and others aren't so lucky. We have to learn how to treat each other better and how to put a stop to things like this.

Exactly. And I know people are "shocked" and find it disturbing that they showed her actually killing herself, but that is reality. Sometimes we have to see it to get the full effect. It's not like this is some horror movie where a girl just kills herself graphically with no plot. This is what really happens to so many people and this is exactly what they go through. Maybe after seeing this, people will take mental health more seriously.

Sadly, it's actually a realistic depiction. Clay did have feelings for Hannah, but he's been relentlessly bullied for a while, and has his own social anxiety and inherent shyness to deal with. As someone who struggled with the same issues, it's very hard to tell someone you like them with all that crap swimming around in your head.

Whether it be on free days, or whenever possible. A lot of people just see it as a show, but it's very very real. What happened to Hannah, happens to so many teenagers every day. I personally dealt with similar things as Hannah. From rumors spreading because of ignorant people.. and ignorant people believing the rumors and just being nice to me to see if the rumors were true, to people making excuses for the guy who hurt me and forced me into things I wasn't ready for and making me the bad guy and telling me I deserved it. These things happened all the time to several people. Some people get through it, and others aren't so lucky. We have to learn how to treat each other better and how to put a stop to things like this.

Exactly. And I know people are "shocked" and find it disturbing that they showed her actually killing herself, but that is reality. Sometimes we have to see it to get the full effect. It's not like this is some horror movie where a girl just kills herself graphically with no plot. This is what really happens to so many people and this is exactly what they go through. Maybe after seeing this, people will take mental health more seriously.

That's so true. People need to open their eyes and see that this stuff is reality, and it could be stopped if people would just learn how to treat people better, take care of each other, and acknowledge that mental illnesses are serious, just like any other illness.

meyralein I agree, but I think that was one of the points he was trying to make. Even most times in the real world, no one cares until something happens. One of my favorite quotes about that same idea is "It's all fun and games. . . . Until it's not."
Sadly, it's actually a realistic depiction. Clay did have feelings for Hannah, but he's been relentlessly bullied for a while, and has his own social anxiety and inherent shyness to deal with. As someone who struggled with the same issues, it's very hard to tell someone you like them with all that crap swimming around in your head.
