In the early 1990s I dined there. My girlfriend and I both agreed it was the best restaurant we had ever been to. Thirty years later I still feel that way. I cannot forget that at the end of our dinner, Andre Soltner, the chef-owner, came around to each table with a basket of cookies. I also remember the sommelier and the excellent advice he offered us (in French). Today there are only two restaurants (both in Europe) which come anywhere close to Lutece. I prefer not to tell you their names for fear I'd never get another reservation.

I never thought that I could eat pig's feet, though I've always said, you can eat most anything if prepared well. Well Julia, I'm convinced and will give it a try.

How I would have loved to eat at Lutèce in its heyday, and studied under Soltner, Pépin, Saillhac, and Torres at the French Culinary Institute.
