The whole scene, the music, the guitar, the sofas, the piles of CDs, the framed drawings looks all so 80s/90s it brings me memories of my childhood and a warm feeling. What great times that was actually to grow up in.
I saw the Steve Miller Band in Murfreesboro, TN in 1978. This is the only electric guitar Steve played the entire show (he only put it down to do his acoustic numbers). As popular as he was, he could have certainly played any brand he wanted, but he chose this Ibanez. That spoke volumes to me, at least.
Thank you for getting right to the sounds of the guitar! I just came here after watching a video where the guy held the guitar and talked for 9 minutes and did not play it. No talking guitar videos are the best.
Whenever I reviewing vintage gear this channel always pops up. Thanks Greg!
Fantastic playing and an amazing Ibanez Artist Guitar - the unsung hero of the 70's and 80's guitar world.
I had bought one in 1981 and trade it. Regrets. I bought one today. Happy again. Awesome guitar!!!
ive never liked ibanez guitars, but this particular model melts my heart...
Yes Artist guitars are great sounding pieces of gear. I own myself a Ibanez ARX 500 with 2 super 58 pu's and a quilted maple top. Great tone, superb playability, outstanding craftmanship. A look that makes you cry.... The guitar is from 2006 or 2007 ? My local guitar shop had one, laying around for several years in this shop. No one bought it, except me, for a real sharp price ... ;-))
Lovely sound classic ibanez beautiful looking guitar I have the ar 720 flying finger pickups also sounds great nice playing early models where great 👍
Daymmm, this guitar is so beautiful
I always thought these were one of the prettiest guitars ever made and very original in most aspects.
It was mine in 1978. Magic guitar ...good souvenir .
I've owned / own so many Ibanez guitars and basses it's ridiculous. They've made great stuff since the 70's when it was all copies. From the budget Gio Mikro to the Bob Weir - I love them all.
This is definetely the guitar I NEED to own one day, I'm in love with this for the first time I saw it 5 years ago... Really hard to find this piece of Art.
I'm a sucker for D C type guitars. That model is stunning.
I use to have a 1978 & 1979 back in the late 70's through 1986, miss those guitars!!!
Lovely playing. And aren’t they gorgeous guitars? I fell in love the second that l saw my ‘82 Artist 305 - Antique Violin finish - just as I had in 1979 when l saw my Tama TG 80 in a guitar shop.
The Tri Sound Pickups were the most amazing thing, so far ahead of their time. I love my 77 Artist with a single tap switch, so very rare.
great sound, great guitar playing, and Special collaboration of teddy bear!
Ah - the plating is worn on the top of the bridge just like my 1981 AR100 - battle honours. Great demo and playing yet again.
you have my dream guitar
Fantastic playing and fantastic sound, really great!
Wow great sounding guitar. Also love your playing and timing.
Gorgeous guitar
I wish they would still make these guitars. They are so beautiful...
Your right beautiful looking I have ar 720 stunning
They do, but they sound a little different.
This is an awesome guitar!!
That sounds so nice! Incredible playing as always, Mr. Hilden!
I have a 1982 Cherry Sunburst of this.....lovely instrument!
Excellent !!!!!! Thank you Greg.
As always, great playing! Very nice guitar as well!
Underrated guitars these… especially the Scofield endorsement models.
Great demo and playing. I just checked out one of the reissues yesterday. Very nice guitar for the money. If I had to get rid of my Les Paul for some reason I would probably buy one of these.
Nice playing, 1979 AR 200,I play it every day, well close.
I have an 84 issue of one of these. Outstanding guitar. The tri sound is series, coil split, parallel for anyone who is wondering.
Wow - that's some guitar. Tasty playing, too!
You're a great guitarist, thanks ...
Sounds beautiful
Sweet playing, beautiful guitar, killer tones (love the old Fender amp) and GREAT teddy bear mic stand ! HAH !
Sounds great.
Love the mic stand.
Awesome!
this guitar is amazing
Why in the world did I sell mine? I loved that guitar!
I like this song. Our Greg is inspired, this day!
Beautiful tone.. this guitar is impossible to find
@ Geo Guitar Guy: this is an old model from the eighties. It was made in Japan. Todays models are made in China, except the model ar2610, which is still made in Japan. But it has a nearly three times higher price as the China models .
that tone is sweet the axe is !!!!!
dude, without a doubt this video is the most badassed playing you've done yet, get it on iTunes . . .
Great guitar and playing. I'm a bit worried for the Teddy bear though.
The new model, AR 2619 is made in Japan. And is part of the prestige series. This model was put out in 2014.And still available.I have owned one since the end of 2015.This guitar is of exceptional quality and craftsmanship! The sustain is superior to any other guitar I have owned or played!Sold my Gibson to get this guitar, could not be more pleased!I don't know why these are not more popular?
THanks for your impressions. I am about to buy an AR2619 (or a Gibson LP). But i tend to the Artist.
Ditto. Said goodbye to my Gibsons and have never regretted it, LOVE my '83 AR-325, sounds almost exactly like this one (mine is a little more mellow, but I also prefer old, but not corroded, strings on mine; I always wipe my strings off after playing, live in a dry climate, hardly ever see string corrosion, but change them when they won't intonate properly anymore, not how I like my other guitars, actually, including my PRS, which seems to need newer strings to have punch and sparkle). The current Japanese ones look and feel like my '83, but every example I've played sounds a little different, though clearly in the same Tonal Family. Love the pickups and their flexibility, too. Flawless necks and fretboards on every example I've played, too, even the Korean ones (just gave one to my oldest son for Christmas, felt very much like my vintage one, under my fingers and pick). They just sing.
How do they compare to Gibson necks? I have a smartwood with a 50's rounded neck, would the Ibanez be much smaller?
what a sound!
I noticed everyone playing these GLORIOUS guitars on RUclips are ALL sitting in chairs- i have to surmise it's the heavy weight of the guitars- 9 lbs and up Whoa!
These guitars are regularly available on e-bay and you should be able to score one for around 1500USD depending on condition. Be sure to read up on the specifications of the model for the year in question because some of the characteristics changed over time - for example the Super 58 pickups are as close to PAFs as you can get and the Super 80s are a little brighter. The model played her by Greg clearly has Super58s.As a holy grail alternative to the 300, look at its predecessor which was the 2619 Artist - costs a bit more but the pickups in 1978-79 models are to die for. I also own 1950 and 1960s Gibsons and Fenders and these Ibanez models stand up well against all of them, plus the added tonal versatility of the trisound switches on the pickups (parallel, series, or single coil for each pickup). Lots of information on these instruments at Ibanez Collectors World, and catalogs can be found at www.ibanez.com/anniversary/index.html
I have an Artist which according to the serial number is May 1980. I bought it used in '83. It's been gigged hard, and it's my only electric guitar (I'm mainly a singer and acoustic guitarist), but it still looks, plays and sounds incredible. The pickups have no cover on them. You wouldn't happen to know what pickups they are would you? Cheers!
Dave, If production was May 1980, then in all likelihood they are super 58s and you are an extremely luck person!
The 1980 catalogue is here, and you can see more complete specs

If you are interested in knowing more about your guitar then connect to the Ibanez Collectors World forum here and you'll find some very knowledable people

Some years ago I bought my 1978 Musician MC400 from one of the members and have never looked back

RN1805 sans Thank you so much for the reply Ray! The catalogues that you put in the link are absolutely terrific, and I've just joined the forum. Judging by the catalogue, the pickups are V2's and the guitar is an AR100BS. Maybe not the super 58's but it's still an incredible guitar. Last night, I plugged it into a Blackstar Artisan 30 belonging to one of my customers at my studio here in England, and the power and tone was awesome, even with dead strings. Many thanks again for the info. Take it easy mate
Hi RN1805 sans, I just purchased an AR300, the series number is H806397, this mean it was crafted in 1980? In the catalogues of 1980 the AR300 seems to not bring flamed maple, but yes in 1981, it is a little confusing. Can you help me clarifing if there were 1980 with flamed maple? My guitar did not bring the Super58, brought a SD JB-59 set, I will try the Gibson 498T-490R first and the SD Seth Lover... if I am not pretty sure with any of them... SD Antiquity. Thanks body!
Frederico
The serial number indicates it was made in june (6th month) of 1980.
The 1980 catalogues indicate "curly maple" as opposed to "flamed maple" (in 1981 catalogues).
I'm not aware of any flamed maple 1980 models, but many Ibanez models of the 1970s and 1980s included parts or materials that weren't always consistent with catalogue information.
If you want to get the most out of the AR300, then make sure that any pickups which you install have enough wires (4?) to allow you to use the trisound switches for full humbucking, out of phase humbucking and single coil sounds
I suggest you join the ibanez collectors world forum (ICW) and post any detailed questions there. Many very knowlegeable people are regularly on the site and can give you support and advice - particularly in the area of connecting pickups to obtain full trisound options (not easy)
Nice playing. I have this guitar but was unhappy with the thin sound. Swapped the PU with Gibson 490-498, WOW! Big difference and much nicer to play. I see he meddled with the electronics here also.
very good guitar
I like it!
VERY GOOD!!!!!
Your microphone stand looks like he is bearly breaking a sweat. 😁
Seems to be an awesome guitar to me!
Should've bought this instead of a LP Standard. I'd still have this!
It's a much better day to day player than a les paul if you ever get up the neck. Far more stable guitars ,too. Mine's 37 years old and still pin straight without any tension on the truss rod (I've had a lot of les pauls - perhaps 12. Some of them were decent, but none was quite on par with the artist . The new artists aren't on par, either, so it's not a surprise - there's always a golden era for builders, and these are from the golden era for the set necks for ibanez, and I guess the 80s and 90s are their g.e. for the bolt on floyd guitars.
AR300s and 305s come up fairly often for $1000 or so. There are a lot more listings for a lot more money than that, but few sell for a high price. When I got mine last year (in a bidding war against someone), it was $1150 and I got the privilege of being the highest price paid for a long while on ebay. Sort of a dunce cap, but easily $1150 of guitar compared to anything available from gibson for that price.
I have one in plum color. 1983
Une guitare est un monde à découvrir. Il faut simplement être patient. L'ibanez AR 300 artist de 1981 en fait partie. Adio
00:40 WHEN the mind forgets body and the fingers released
kirkmetkirk couldn't have said it better myself.
Звучит классно и удобная! Очень хочу такую гитарку....
Wow!!
I don't know about getting an original from the 70's or 80's, but ibanez just released a reissue ar320/325. My next axe!! A very similar guitar would be the vox virage sdc55
Soooooo nice
In response to Frank Cruz, yes I noticed the pickups were a bit weak in the reissue compared to an Epiphone that I also auditioned. I saw one of the vintage one's in a store and yes it was considerably heaveir. It was pretty overpriced though.
Similar age to mine, but more switches (slightly different model) but in a lot better nick..!
nice mic stand :)
yeah! i got the same thing!
Snowy White vibe going there.
Santana!
TOP TOP TOP😘🤩😍🥰
I have an '81 very similar to that but no mini switches. What model would mine be? Thanks
oh boy
Love this look. Are these heavy like LP’s?
I play rock/punk/metal with a modded Epi LP Standard. Ibanez just reissued this axe. Do you think the pickups would sound good with moderate to high gain??
Amazing playing! How did you get the clean tone in the beginning and lead time at the end?
just the split coil sound / clean Amp
Something about this guitar makes me want to play prog rock and fusion lol
Thats far more versatile and better sounding(to me at least) than most gibsons...if not all....Bold statement...but it seems true when hearing this video...
Real cool guitar, real cool video. Thanks for sharing. Here is a demo I did for my AR300, I hope you will enjoy it
Vintage!
This guitars are worth from 2000-4000 depending on its state..
A guitar all over XTC records. Check out the high speed choppy New Wave playing from Andy Partidge at 13:50!ruclips.net/video/We2ORbOVFuw/видео.html
😱😱😱🥺🥺🥺😭😭😭
Hi ! Where it was made ? Thanks
B..A..U..tiful me want one.
damn...they dont sell these on ibanez..only some new crap(
how much are these someone wants to trade this to me for an amp that costs 2000, is he low balling me?
hey i wanna ask if it is made in china or made in japan
Japan
that looks like Ibanez ar 420
Suman Chhetri - That's the equivalent, apparently, contemporary version. I've got an AR-325 ('83) that sounds very much like this one, has the Super 58's. I was contemplating swapping them out (more out of curiosity than dissatisfaction), but was talked of it by a well known guitarist whom I respect, who has a muted love for these guitars (he plays and records them often but doesn't talk about them, I knew another band member, got to shadow him during a sound check in Boulder eleven years ago, asked him years worth of accumulated questions, he was very generous with his time and experience). I put mine away for two years, went through several other guitars, looking for a sound that seemed increasingly elusive. Then I pulled it back out of its case, and discovered that it had been they're the whole time, I'd just begun to take it for granted. Love the neck and fretboard, too. Can be punchy or laid back, the pickup options are great to have, even the more neutral sounding split humbuckers work well in certain contexts (you won't confuse them for a Strat or Tele, they almost sound like an active pickup, very articulate, very little hum at all, sounds a lot like the guitar does when you play it unamplified). Awesome jazz tones, great sustain, can get very "vocal" sounding, does a great Woman Tone of its own, even. Mine's got some wear on it, but you can't see it unless you're up close, looks amazing under stage lighting, they got these sunbursts and tobacco bursts RIGHT, not to heavy-handed and hokey like the most of the Gibson's I've seen. I sold my two Les Pauls after I got my 325 (had both a 1-series and a 250 before getting this particular example, sold those, too, after finding a particularly toneful specimen), won't ever sell this guitar!
Guitars made in?
Japan
I like the way it looks, but it's so limited when it comes to tone selection hahahaha.
Great guitar. I want to play one now. Nice playing btw.
lol i hear ya. needs more toggles. :)
The reissue I checked out,If u can get the vintage do that,The reissue is no where near as good...U can get vintage ones for 700 but it wont be mint but it will kill the reissue. The reissue weighs like 7lbs and the vintage are like 11 and all that wood is goin to give a huge tone and the Og PU are much better
Nowadays thie model is made in China and they charge you 1,000 USd for it, no way someone pays that much for a Chinese guitar.
nice mic stand :)
TOP TOP TOP😘🤩😍🥰
nice mic stand :)
