Loro Parque: Cute BABY Stingrays in the Aquarium | zoos.media

In the aquarium of Loro Parque, there are cute baby freshwater stingrays. We talked about the animals with Ester Alonso Gómez and Ana Alfaro, who care wonderfully about them and were part of achieving in the breeding success. They give us very special insights into the husbandry.
Ester Alonso Gómez is the director of the aquarium and looks every day for her special babies. They are white-blotched river stingrays (Potamotrygon leopoldi) and they were bred for at Loro Parque the first time.
White-blotched river stingrays are rare not only in zoos but also in the wild because the species is endemic to the Brazilian Rio Xingu basin, named after a tributary of the Amazon. How many of them are left in nature is unknown.
In the video, Ana Alfaro is diving to clean the pool of small babies. That is quite a lot of work. First, she cleans the glass, then the soil is circulated, the roots sucked off and finally, the plants rearranged.
You can see how much work this is for this aquarium, which is not even one of the largest at the aquarium. It gives you an idea of ​​how much effort the animal-friendly husbandry of rays is. Exactly this effort is worthwhile because thanks to the husbandry people learn a lot about these fascinating animals.
There was also another offspring in Loro Parque for another ray species.

Wieder zwei Dinge gelernt. Hatte immer gedacht, dass Rochen eher einzelgängerisch leben und nicht gedacht, dass die so kuschelbedürftig sind.
Auch dass die Tiere ihren Stachel abwerfen hab ich nicht gewusst. Danke für die Info!
Mir gefällt immer eure Musikauswahl. Wie heißt denn die Melodie am Anfang (ab 0:10)?
