This is even better in person. There is a version on youtube that was when a concert was canceled as a local storm took out the power, yet Home Free loves their fans so much that they went out to them and sang it WITHOUT MICS and it's *BREATHTAKING* to hear it that way. How many bands will do that for their fans ??? This was filmed in Austria and only about a 30-minute drive from where the opening of the Sound of Music was filmed. The setting befitts the music. You should also hear them in Helplessly Hoping and Brother in Arms....that would be their artistic side and they are *SPECTACULAR*

This WAS filmed in the Austrian Alps where "The Sound of Music" was filmed! So you hit the nail on the head! No other a cappella group has the "IT" factor that Home Free has! Their sound, their harmonies, their beat boxer, their arrangements are shear perfection!
Before you do "Mayday", you need to be more familiar with the guys, know their names & the parts they play because "Mayday" has some surprises! One of their originals I think you'd like is "Catch Me If You Can". Also, "Ain't Going Down (Til the Sun Comes Up)" which is only on their Facebook page (NOT released on youtube) due to some issues from Garth Brooks' people, BUT you can show it on youtube. It'll set your hair on fire! 🔥😊

I think this is one of the best versions of this song. Tim's bass really carries the song. I just found Home Free last year & love these 5 talented guys. And the scenery is awesome filmed in the beautiful Austrian Alps (my dad comes from that area).

It's a classic hymn done to perfection.
I think this is one of the most beautiful covers of Home Free. Also, I have heard this song many times because I come from a very Christian family and I can say that this version touches me the most. Probably also because of the beautiful area in Austria where this was recorded. I showed this song to my mother (84) a few months ago and it also touched her very much that she herself suggested it in her church to show it there. It is so wonderfully sung with all those beautiful, but also different voices. You not only hear it, but you feel it.
This was filmed in the Austrian Alps and the harmonies they use are very appropriate for the surroundings. This is, in a word, a masterpiece. If you want to learn more about Home Free, they have a 5 part series explaining how they came to be and how they came to be together. It is amazing that Home Free has been around for more than 20 years. The only remaining original member is Adam Rupp the beat boxer. He, his brother Chris, and a few friends started the group and the history of Home Free explains how they came to be who and what they are.

Adam Rupp and his brother, Chris, who was with the group for awhile, started this group. They and Rob are from Minnesota. Tim is from Texas, Adam Chance is from California via Alabama and Austin is from Georgia.

This is what Home Free does. They politely knock on the door of your heart and once you've invited them in, you don't ever want them to leave. They can sing so many different genres and styles and EVERY THING sounds wonderful. This is so beautiful, it makes your heart hurt in that good way when you feel your heart overflowing from the beauty. This is a masterwork. Love this beautiful song and love Home Free. You were spot on, it was filmed in the Swiss Alps. Great reaction. Your eyes said it all. Adam Rupp and his brother Chris formed Home Free back in 2000 when they were in college. There have been several members who have fallen out along the way. Rob joined, then I can't remember which order but Austin and Tim came in. Chance came in when Adam's brother Chris left to do solo work. There are videos on Chris Rupp's You Tube page telling the history of Home Free and they are very interesting. They didn't just become overnight successes. A lot of persistence and hard work has put them where they are now.
This was my introduction to Home Free ... and I've been hooked ever since ! Elvis's version thrills me but Home Free's rendition soothes my soul ... such talent !

Adam Rupp the beatboxer and his brother started the group in Mankato Minnesota. Chris Rupp is in some of the videos but he left the group he has his own channel. Rob Lunquist was a bartender in Minnesota when he joined the group. Tim answered an add and Austin joined them when they met on a cruise ship. Adam Chance “chance” joined after Chris left.

Chance hasn’t been with them since 2000.
Adam Rupp is the last original member, and he doesn't sing that often. Lundquist joined in 2008, Foust in 2012, Brown in 2013, and Chance in 2016. Their harmonies are so tight because they are ridiculously skilled, and even more hard-working.
This line up has been together since May 2016 after Chris Rupp left to pursue a solo career and work with his sister's group. I loved Chris and his arrangement chops are second to none but Chance has brought so much to the group. He's such a quiet and unassuming man, but his stellar vocals have lifted Home Free to the next level of perfection in my opinion.
I don't know if it is just me or not but when Adam sings "It is well with my soul" it almost sounds like there are several men singing it before the others pop back in.

Adam Rupp is the founding member from Minnesota who started the group with his brother Chris. Tim Foust is from Texas, Adam Chance is from Alabama, Austin Brown is from Georgia, and Rob Lundquist is for Minneapolis. What an amazing group of men have come together to create this fabulous sound for us to enjoy

For your question: The former member Chris Rupp (brother of Adam Rupp, the beatboxer) has a series: "The history of Home Free" on his channel. Actually they had quite some changes in members, which I also didn't know before.
For Pentatonix (short PTX) three of them (Kirstin, Scott & Mitch) where actually school friends and choir/theater members and then found the other two. Later Avi left the group and Matt replaced him.
They ARE purely Angelic Beings. There are not that many it here in music anymore. They are all leaving back to the heavens. Thank you for sharing your reaction.

Take a look at the first edition of the Sing Off series that they won. They talk about the start of the group. Percussionist Adam Rupp and his brother Chris started the band in college. Over time others have changed. Then the line up that won the Sing Off only changed when Chris Rupp went solo and they got Adam Chance. I think Austin stalked them when in another band on cruise ships with them. He talks about it on a live 'Bass solo' in concert video of Little Red Riding Hood

Another purely beautiful example of their harmonies is Helplessly Hoping cover of Crosby, Stills and Nash. Adam Rupp sings baritone in it

Me too!! Waite Park was amazing! I was in the front row with my granddaughter. She was as excited as I was. She was screaming her head off. They are just amazing!!! I messed up my vids but got some great stills.
@@nanadeborah8717 We were about 5 or 6 rows back on the right side (looking at the stage). I've got my vids posted. Sound is pretty good and videography is ok as well. Nothing great but I do have most of Adam's solo up (missed about the first 15-20 seconds). I was so glad we ended up with good weather.
@@DyvmSlorm so was I. Adam and Tim both said in the meet & greet that the facility had some pretty strict rules about storms. They were considering not taking an intermission if the storm was coming in. If lighting strikes 5 miles from the facility,it's an automatic 15 minute delay. But the storm wasn't coming in until after we all left. Come to find out that when I lived in Apple Valley, Rob was only a few blocks away. Who knew? I probably passed him in the stores at some point. I just got acquainted with Home Free right before Christmas last year. They were amazing to see in person and very down to earth attitudes. Just love them.

When they started singing the part it is well with my soul, I cried. Horatio Spafford wrote that song after he lost his only son to scarlet fever and then tragically lost all four of his daughters in a ship wreck after sending them on vacation to heal after their brothers death. This man lost everyone and still felt it was well with his soul because he had Jesus

It is time for you to watch Home Free's cover of Mayday. It is a fine line when to watch it, one can't watch it too soon or leave it too long or it is not as impactful. So watch Mayday now and be even more impressed, you may want to watch Cam's original first because Home Free sings it in the same key (she's a soprano). Maybe watch Some Girls Do to chances voice in your head first.

There is a 5-part video series called Home Free History that takes you through the formation through about 2016 when Chris Rupp, one of the founders, left to do more solo projects and Chance came in as the new baritone/bass. I haven't seen a new episode yet about how they met him.
