Brothers! I'm proud to be the 515th viewer. I just realized that if you extended your rules to allow for rice bags for the floor of the tent, then you would have a much more durable product. I can't wait to try this. This video was very wholesome.
@@BrothersMake I'm doing well. I'm glad to see that you both seem to be keeping well. I just realized that plastic rice-bags include handles sometimes. That is worth incorporating into the tent...I think.
I am a seamstress. While watching your video I kept thinking that I could have cut your work time down considerably by sewing the front and doors and sealing with silicone. Just a thought. Love the project!❤
Vents near the top with an additional weather cover would help with the humidity problems. Maybe use mesh vegetable bags over the openings to provide some structural integrity, though if you can scrounge some window screens, they may be better material. Cool project!
For sure - we assumed it would, but didn't realise quite how much! Given a bit more time that'd definitely be something we'd want to add like we chatted about at the end of the video 🤙🏼
Literally, eating crisps while watching this. I think my crisps packet is getting nervous🤣 Great work, guys. And that location; amazing!. Reminds me of Weathertop.
Another source of plastic sheet would be with your local painters. They use large thin sheets to cover floors/walls. A lot of the time they are one use and then disposed of.
Hi Guys That is an amazing project! I love it! I wish I could find the video I had from years ago, that was from India. This lady had people gathering all kinds of wrappers and trash. She had people cleaning and sorting the trash and she built houses from the trash! This wonderful lady even built furniture with the trash! It was so cool! The lady used big blocks made out of trash for the walls. It was awesome! I love your tent ideas! I love doing DIY things. I have even thought of putting plastic bags together in layers and making giant sheets, to put up a water vapor barrier for a storage shed. And build the shed out of wooden pallets. I haven't done it yet because of space in my mobile home lot. But I will as soon as I get a house of my own.😁 Great job guys. This would also be a nice mat for going to the park or beach. I would use it to put a blanket or comfy mat on top of it. 🙂 Also I've subscribed to your channel. And I will keep watching to see what else you guys get into! Have a wonderful day! Cheryl 🙂
Hey Cheryl, making a fully upcycled shed would be awesome - we'd love to give that a go one day, too. Thanks so much for the kind words, best of luck with the making!
@@BrothersMake It's easy it just takes a lot of work to get the materials ready. Use pallet wood for ship lap. And make sure you put a plastic layer in between the frame and shiplap. 😁

quite beautiful, the stained glass effect inside ❤. How about a big tarp: beautiful AND useful!! The internal moisture is probably mostly coming from your own breathing not from external leaks. p.s. lovely camera work.
Very cool idea, and for a 48hr by the seat of your pants build, this managed to do quite well. I imagine that this sort of structure would be best suited for milder climates, but also that this sort of material could be utilized in multiple, non-camping applications such as vapor barriers. It may require multiple layers and overlaps, though, and i fear the level of prep needed to use this material would be a huge barrier to large scale implementation. It would be interesting to see if somehow this material could be combined with other recyclable material(s) to be used as a base product to be used to make other things. I wish i knew more about polymer sciences to be able to suggest some theoretical ideas. As it is, i am just astounded that this build worked as well as it did. Thank you for a fun, entertaining, and inspirational channel.

We do have a lot of teachers reach out to discuss how they set up plastic recycling classes in schools using our videos, so that's always amazing to hear. Thank you!
I'm working on making one from grocery sacks. I don't know about y'all but here in the states we make our grocery bags from hdpe! Stoked to see y'all's ideas!
gotta put in vents, I don't think it would be too difficult to add on though. I saw people mentioning mesh produce bags, that could definitely work. Especially at the triangle of the back near the top, and you could add an overhanf "roof" to keep weather out simply.
When you can't keep the humidity out, bigger is usually better. It doesn't matter much if water (mostly breath condensation) is running down the inside of the tent if the walls are a foot or more away from you in all directions.
Good to know - think we'd definitely look to add some vents for a second version of this, but the shape of it definitely helped keep the water off the sleeping bag at least!
This is awesome but also terrifying in the way it highlights how much rubbish eating crisps generates and how hardy that rubbish is. Anyhow, i need a sewing youtuber to make a chip packet dress now
Went searching for ways to tackle microplastics and stumbled on you guys! Nice video btw, still on my way to see how to tackle microplastics. Heard there's a bug that eats plastic... caterpillar of greater wax moth.
You guys should definitely get a table top press for riveting, very simple and worth it, I work in a canvas shop and use it all the time, that being said you guys should test this material out as a replacement for boat canvas 👀
We'll look into it - thanks for the suggestion! We did actually talk the other day about using as a material for the sail of a little boat we want to make out of plastic waste.
Most of that humidity was probably due to moisture from respiration. If you add small vents at the peaks where the poles stand it up, the extra airflow may mitigate the condensation.
Loved your idea I really wanted to see if it work for the homeless people. Unfortunately this wouldn’t work in a hot country due to the heat and humidity trapped inside❤
Oh it's definitely crisp packets (which is how we refer to them throughout the video), but the vast majority of our viewers are American, so we thought we'd name it for them!
OMG! I just found you guys!❤ I would love to be camping there with you! What a great idea 💡 to make a tent ⛺️! 😊 I can't wait for the next adventure! Saving the world one step at a time ❤
I work in corrections and the inmates make amazing things with chip bags, including elaborate handbags with locking clasps that resemble designer handbags. It’s amazing. I wish I could have one but am not allowed.
I would layer the crisp/ American potato chip tent, with at least 4 layers of bag lining, if given the better chance to test the survivability aspect of the build.
I've been saving my potato chip bags to put pkg of meat or to add vegetables to and then put in a freezer bag for extra protection in the freezer. But my daughter gives a few dollars to a homeless man in Texas, so maybe I can make him a tent or maybe use the chip bags and add some of material in between the bags to ward off the cold weather.
I'm really curious if anyone has any information on how these might be used in a hot climate, like Texas. If you reverse it, would it be cooler on the inside? Heat is the most dangerous thing we experience here, and there is a large unhoused population. We've also got a litter/recycling problem around our city and beach. I wonder if it would be possible to partner some of the environmental groups with the homelessness groups in a mutually beneficial way.
Yes, the sheets will reflect the heat. It will work best with the silver side pointing towards the sun. I have seen these bags turn into sleeping bag, bags, keeping sleeping bags dry from rain, and reflecting the heat back into the sleeping bag. They were being used in the winter in Northern England. Not sure about the economic aspect to it, as obviously a lot of heat is used in making them and you can buy silver polythene on a roll. Best of look anyway on what sounds like worthy plan of action. ✌️💚🙏 🇬🇧
It would certainly be interesting to test out - the way we had it was definitely more suited to cooler weather, but we did discuss flipping it the other way around for hotter weather to reflect the heat like you say. Can you show how to make a disc golf disc from plastic using the compression molding method? I was thinking HDPE and perhaps some of the garbage bag plastic and perhaps those rubber inserts under the coke lids? Or something like that.
You was alway's going to be up against it simply because of what the crisp packets are made of🧐. The problem you have and that you are going to struggle with is the moisture/condensation, as you already know because of the outside temperature being different to the temperature produced by your bodyheat etc the tent will always have condensation sitting upon the inner wall's. It's going to be a challenge for you to make the inside dry, even if you are able to somehow install a dry liner to help stop the condensation from basically getting you wet the issue is that condensation will develope between the two walls of your tent, the inner wall of the crispy tent and the dry liner itself. I hope you decide to take the opportunity to put together another video of you doing your best to fix the moisture problem and stay overnight in the open countryside again. Basically, recreating this video once more 🤔. That said Goodluck to the pair of you 🫡🤪
For sure! We figured the easiest fix would be to add some larger vents at the top of each triangle and maybe on the sides, and add some mesh in those areas. We probably need a small break from tent making haha, but would be keen to try another version in the future! Thanks, Simon ♻️

We were trying to think of what we could use as the mesh - they're great suggestions!
Some teabags are made out of fine plastic mesh. You would need a few teabags to make a decent window, but it would be possible.
Side / ridge vent pockets needed to clear out internally produced moisture from your breathing and body heat 🤣
Came here to say this. They didn’t realize how wet your own breath can make the inside of an unbreathable container.
The pocket was a good collector for moisture. Perhaps overlapping flaps like roof tiles and fish scales would help moisture to drop out.
For sure - we assumed it would, but didn't realise quite how much! Given a bit more time that'd definitely be something we'd want to add like we chatted about at the end of the video 🤙🏼
