Hey guys, I found your channel by accident and I am really happy that you are enjoying your stay in Macedonia. Ohrid is the pearl of my country, there are other great places as well if you have time. I would recommend while you are in Ohrid to try their traditional dish, it is called Gjomleze, you can have it for breakfast, with some yoghurt, but you should probably ask the owners where to get it, I think they sell it in the bazar. Also, you should try a fish while you are there. Ohridska pastrmka or Ohrid trout is a bit overpriced, but you can try the Mavrovska pastrmka. There are so many other dishes I would want to recommend (if you a re planning on gaining some weight :) ) such as stuffed peppers, sharska pleskavica, sarma, and you should not miss on the shopska salad, it is our traditional salad. For desert, you can try sutlijas(or rice pudding) or if you are in for some guilty pleasure, you can try Tulumba :) Have fun, I love your videos.
Hi Angelina, thank you for the detailed tips. I know this post is old, but I'm researching for my trip to the Balkans next year. Do you have any suggestions for what things must be done in Ohrid? We will be doing a day trip there and have only a few hours there in September or October. We will go to Skopje in the evening and spend the night there.

That wasn't the bazaar that was what they call the čaršija which is like a high street. The bottom of the čaršija near the lake is the ploštad which is like the main square at the top of the čaršija is the činar which is the old tree near the fountain. Past that is the bazaar Pazar in Macedonian. Love Ohrid so much.

About the "tavče gravče" is not like baked beans as it's not made with tomato sauce. Is made with like a butter beans what you have in the UK, cooked for a long time then is finished with same fried all purpose flour with paprika and then baked, also it has different spices that English people are not using in the kitchen. I'm glad you enjoyed it though.
True home made ajvar is in jars of mushroom or kornishoni 😉

Try hot chili ajvar in combo with sheep feta cheese, its a divine!
I don't know if it is still running due to COVID etc but if possible take the cruise to St Naum.. definitely worth it :)

Always drink rakija in the morning its like coffe on drugs, it wakes you up instantly and it makes you warm for the rest of the day
Also don't fold the bread with ajvar just put white chiese on it and eat it like that becase if you do that in a restorant people are gonna think you are an a idiot
One more thing hold the rakija in your mouth for 3 seconds and it woun't be that spicy

Mastika is like a French Pernod or Greek ouzo .
You have to put Ajvar or Pinxhur little beat thicker on your Bread , Try sandwich Bread with Ajvar with Suxhuk ( Su juck) with some Chese and Black Tea with lemon.

No, there are some dishes that are better when they are spicy, but you can choose if you want the non spicy version ;)

And besides, the Vardar flows through Greek Macedonia and empties right next to Thessaloniki, so you guys are qualified to be called Vardarska as well :))))))
