Yup I agree. Marty is a better teacher. When Marty teaches guitar solos he breaks them into parts and teaches them in a way that is more easy to understand. I also appreciate that Marty always gets back to the previous part of the solo while teaching the next one. In that way I really get the lesson easily. Keep rocking Marty. =)
Nice one guys, best tutorial for this I've seen. I'd been putting it off as I had convinced myself it was too complicated for me, and this video showed how simple it really is, all I need now is to get it up to speed, and sort out my wah-wah technique. Thanks
Hey Papa Stache, and Marty. I highly appreciate all the video's you both share on youtube. I watch and learn from them daily. I'm a subscriber that has bought CD's and watched a lot of your videos. I have one tiny critique/request in regards to Papa's teaching of solos. I noticed in Marty's video's he goes back and plays the entire solo or part over and over again showing hows its supposed to really sound. Then he teaches a small part and goes back over the entire solo again. Showing how that new part fits into the entire solo. And how it should sound. When trying to follow this lesson and a few others. Its seems papa teaches almost the entire solo part after part without playing the entire solo again(making it difficult to picture the parts at times). So I cannot determine if I am playing the part fast enough or if my timing is correct. I find myself making a mental note of the time. Then I rewind to the very beginning of the video to watch how the song should be played all together. Kinda like Marty does throughout the lesson. If the solo has 20 parts to it. Marty will teach each part and play the entire solo each time a new part is taught. So he probably plays the "entire" solo 20x during a 20 part solo lesson. Papa only played the entire solo at the very beginning. And once at the end. Or even going over 1/2 the solo 15-20x during the lesson would help a grip too. Not that I can't learn it this way. Its just so much easier to learn and follow how Marty teaches solo's. But even if this comment falls on deaf ears. Not that you need help, just thought I would share how I feel. Love what you guys do for guitar players throughout the world. :)
@MetalliMan0521 had a similar problem with my used strat i just got. I tried like u did to do it myself but couldnt get it close enough. took mine to a guitar shop. Had the truss rod adjusted in the neck and a basic setup including intonation for thirty bucks! Brought it home and fine tuned the saddles on the bridge and bam. Sounds wonderful now. That's my advice.
I learned this solo 3 years back when i started playing guitar. And i must say that this lesson would have helped me out alot better then than to learn it from the tabs at the time.
However the beginners rather won't start learning within this solo and this video , I remember that when I was beginner I was looking for the most easiest song I knew . This lesson is wonderful for the advance and intermediate players , imho .Here's not waste of time for explaining the obvious things and showing every fret by the long time
A question, not sure if I can explain what i want to ask properly. Here goes. If you're finger picking the Chords E,D,G and, to make it simple, for the chords you pick E bass note then e,b,g. again to keep it simple, one note per beat. So it's E,e,b,g - G, e.b, g, - D,e,b,g....etc. nice and easy four beat per measure and one chord per measure. What do you do when there are two or three chords in one measure? What do you pick? It makes sense to me...lol ...Hope I explained it properly.
@martyzsongs haha people sure do not know how to be grateful... thanks marty, really appreciate the time and effort you put in to make this videos, keep rocking!
Hmmm. Wonderful teaching, I do understand it myself but I must say that this lesson is a lot more complicated than I first expected. For those who have just started playing guitar and tried to learn this, R.I.P.
@martyzsongs MARTY!! you need to do Freya by the swords. id LOVE to learn how to play that lol. its awesome, your awesome, keep doing what you do man!!
u guys sound amazing!! THANKS SO MUCH FOR THE LESSON. ALWAYS WANTED TO LEARN THAT SOLO SO I COULD JAM TO THE WHOLE SONG. Pretty easy once i can see whonits played, THANKS AGAIN \m/

@VoVikMakaR I'm not only asking it for myself, also for other players. He has been teaching us fairly easy songs, so i quess this one would be good too (:
hey Marty! love your videos, but can you finally put links to tabs in describtion, or include tabs in video while your're playing? It'd be much easier for us to learn! :)
@rajmas1 he probably didnt make a tutorial for the whole song because just makin the solo took 12 min and then with the rest of the song it would maybe last for 20 min or something.
Got it. I'm kidding. This would take a while. You did however break it down nicely Brett! I can hardly wait til the day comes when "it's hard to play a lick slow". That would rock...
Yup I agree. Marty is a better teacher. When Marty teaches guitar solos he breaks them into parts and teaches them in a way that is more easy to understand.

seeing a new Guitar lesson video make me smile...makes me fucking cheery.
fucking love you marty
Thank you!!! Since my first song I've wanted to learn this solo!
This is a much better video solo lesson for this particular song. Talking is moderate not excessive and the playing is the most accurate.
However the beginners rather won't start learning within this solo and this video , I remember that when I was beginner I was looking for the most easiest song I knew . This lesson is wonderful for the advance and intermediate players , imho .Here's not waste of time for explaining the obvious things and showing every fret by the long time
@DropDismyway he definitely did.
AAAAh! finally another metallica song!!! i've been searching all over the internet for this solo! thanks marty :D Greetings from Norway :)

Any tips on how to get those bends on the 21st fret,I find it impossible to get a deep bend on those frets

Going like; 12th fret(pick) hammer-pulloff 15th, then 12th fret B string (pick) ?
