    When I started driving, I was with my trainer. We had a load of beer and was less than 100 lbs from 80,000 lbs. The brewery had scales onsite. You had to be legal before you could leave their property. Luckily my trainer had been driving a long time and knew where to set the tandems.

      Beer USED to be a "" outlaw "" load. They didn't care about your problems. BUT, that's changed a lot in the past 30 years. NOW? They try to load you as close as possible to the 80,000 lb mark. But, will try to get the axle weight right and not let you leave unless it's legit

      @TheJoyofTrucking  2 месяца назад

      Congratulations!!!
      If you look in our older videos there are a few on that. Shopping. Cooking. Etc.
      Our newest thing that I LOVE is a small air fryer!!! Great for cooking and warming up (we don’t use a microwave). Can even bake in there.
      Lots of raw vegetables to nibble in throughout the day. And some nuts but watch the calories! Oats and seeds, nuts, fruit, etc for breakfast. Boiled eggs on hand that we make in the hot water kettle.
      Make sure any appliances work with your inverter. Run engine while cooking. We also have an electric kettle.
      If we had more room I’d bring a rice cooker too.
      Fridge with freezer is awesome. At Werner we did not have a fridge in the truck, so we bought a 12 V cooler to keep some things. The fridge/freezer has improved things tremendously. The most important thing is not to buy the fast food that you will see everywhere along the way. Best of luck with everything. We wish you a fabulous new career! Thanks for watching our channel! Let us know if we can help you with anything else. Who are you starting your driving career with?

    Also remember, when figuring out how close to get on the drivers, that if you aren't full of fuel and add fuel, that weight will almost all go on your divers. 200 gallons would be over 1400 pounds. I know they said not to fuel before you picked up, but you want to make sure that you have enough fuel to make your delivery point. Sometimes it is necessary to stop and fuel up, but the secret is to not take on more that you need. Figure out how much you used, and don't get any more that that. Keep up the good work and keep safe and legal. 😇

    Your allowed 20 on the steering if you had a short wheel base cabover we use to stay at 15 or 16 on the steering all the time

    I knew something wasn't right on the 2nd weigh when the gross changed alot and no way moving the tandems would lower the steer weight that much. I figured Tanja wasn't on the truck. If you would have weighed a third time you would see that you was still overweight on the steer. 🙂

    I think the paperwork it wrong on the load weight. Hard to believe with t680 and plate trailer to have 46000 in box and only weigh 78400

    More and more i try to strategize dipping into the left before i make the right. Has massively minimized riding curbs etc. Ill let the lane clear and hold it up behind me if need be and then swing wide to the left. Mandatory when your forced to deal with small town streets

    Perhaps they used the word "diesel' because maybe the 'gas' pumps don't have diesel.

    TOTAL 80K POUNDS..IF YOUR ALLOWED 34K ON THE DRIVES AND 34 ON THE TRAILER THAT LEAVES ONLY 12 K FOR THE STEERS SO AREN'T YOU STILL OVERWEIGHT ON YOUR STEERS@ 12280 ? PLEASE CONFIRM -THANKS.

    • @TheJoyofTrucking
      @TheJoyofTrucking  2 месяца назад

      Check the weights on the Cat Scale. They didn’t come to 34 and 34 exactly. They were both under. And steers we’re just under limit of 12,300 allowed on that truck. So kept it under 80,000.

      @@TheJoyofTrucking HI..HYPOTHETICALLY..IF YOUR MAXED OUT ON YOUR TRAILER AND DRIVES ,YOU NO LONGER HAVE 12,300 ON THE STEERS IS THAT CORRECT ?

      Thanks. Crete locks the 5th wheel in place. Can’t adjust that. But the steers in this truck are rated for 12,300. So it’s fine.

    Tonya was getting coffee when you weighed the second time so that took weight off the front axel so two holes would have been enough. But now you have room for fuel.

    K&T...T' love that green hat. K' have you had any concerns or issues with weight gain, back pain or any health issues during your trucking journey thus far? ✌🏾

    • @TheJoyofTrucking
      @TheJoyofTrucking  2 месяца назад

      Thanks! Glad you like my hat! It’s Bolivian. Bought in North Dakota. 😁 Concerns… yes. Definitely have to be very conscientious about what you eat and how much you eat. Fitting in exercise is very challenging. It’s a lot of sitting. Very important to get up every couple hours and move. In the Freightliner Kevin started feeling it in his back. I wear a back brace for support as I already had back surgery in 2000 and find some of the roads rather unbearable. Even in the Kenworth I 70 through Indiana is very hard on my back.
      I also wear compression socks and sit on a doughnut. Kevin does not. It is definitely not a healthy career choice. It takes a lot of extra effort to take care of your mind and body. The conditions can be rough and the hours are long. Hope that gives you a bit of insight. 😃
