I Dream of Jeannie - Rare 2nd Season Theme Music

  • I Dream of Jeannie's 2nd season opening credits originally aired with a different version of the theme song... which most likely hasn't been used on air in the U.S. since its original broadcasts on NBC in 1966/1967. In reruns and on DVD, season 2 airs using the season 3 opening theme song - which sounds similar but uses different instruments. Here, I've worked to remaster the original season 2 opening theme back to broadcast quality - along with a few other rare gems no longer used on air today. Enjoy!

    I Dream of Jeannie is the first sitcom I ever watched as a child growing up and was mesmerized by it. I remember sitting in my little rocking chair waiting for the show to come on. This is great! Occasionally I'll hear the S2 end theme in reruns. This version was much lighter, with nice strings, that the deeper theme drowned out. I don't think I've ever heard the S2 opening outside of YT. It's better as well, IMO.

    OMG This is how I remembered season 2 intro but I had only heard it in my head for years. I knew that when I got the dvd's that something was wrong but couldn't put my finger on it. I also notice they used the same opening in most of the shows opening sequences in the collection and that there is a very brief jump or skip in the audio track that i noticed and makes me crazy every time I hear it. I always think why would they pick one opening to use for all of the season 2-5 shows on the discs and use the the track that has a skip in it! Anyway awesome job, thanks for sharing this!

I have only season 1 DVD so far (seeing it for only $7 in a store, who can resist?), but I hope to change that (altho that of course will make me have to go to Amazon, and charge me at least $60, versus the 7 I paid for season 1). I remember this very well, recorded it on reel to reel tape back in 1972. When I watched Jeannie in syndication after leaving NBC in 1970, Screen Gems syndicated prints included this particular theme version. It wasn't till the show was remastered in the mid or early 80s that those old syndicated prints (with this theme) were pulled, and season 3 theme song was heard going forward.

When reruns of ‘Charlie’s Angels’ were shown On WGN back in the early 80s, they used the ‘Charlie’s Angels Will Return in a Moment’ bumper that ABC used. Rhoda: Season 3 had a different theme song arrangement in the first season 3 episode (The Return Of Ida) only.
    The Bob Newhart Show had a very unpolished and slightly different theme in the episode PILOT.

    • @mosesberkowitz3298
      @mosesberkowitz3298 8 лет назад +5

      To me there's a huge difference between seasons 2 and 3 music. Season 2 starts with strings playing pizzicato and muted horns..the effect is a kind of subtle sound. I could see the musical director saying "Nice, but it doesn't grab you..." Season 3 starts with unmuted horns barking away (replacing the plucky strings) that call your attention much faster! Also, the trombone in the background of Season 3's theme is mixed much louder, which is awesome because it's a great part he has. Instrumentation changes everything! Season 3 also lost the jazzier drum part, unfortunately.

    • @LarryLeeMoniz
      @LarryLeeMoniz 8 лет назад +5

      Wrong. You can hear many differences. The drums are different. The main melody has different instrumentation. The main difference is he sub-melody of strong horns is completely absent in the second repeat of the main melody and at the very end of the theme. The season three version if much fuller.
