Hugo Montenegro was a genius. The 1st season theme by Richard Weiss was totally different, more of a romantic sweeping theme. Hugo created the theme that stuck and is still an ear worm over fifty years later.
That was a pretty cute opening, what color would your smoke be if you were a genie? Whenever you came from your bottle, would it be very thick puffs of smoke to start doing your magic?
I remember having a huge crush on Genie watching reruns in the 80's at the babysitter's house. I was 10 years old. Their older kids were annoyed that I wanted to watch it everyday.
@@goldenvulture6818 There are lyrics to "Jeannie", composed by Hugo Montenegro, but they were never used. The first line supposedly goes "Jeannie....fresh as a daisy." Also, this is the familiar 1966-1970 opening. The original theme from the B&W 1965-1966 episodes was by Richard Wess, an arranger for Bobby Darin, and the instrumental was a waltz-like tune. Producer Sidney Sheldon reportedly didn't like Wesss's music, and replaced him with Montenegro by September 1966. Montenegro would later have a big pop hit of his own with the "Theme To The Good, The bad, And The Ugly", a #2 chart hit on Billboard in 1968 for a United Artists movie with the same title.
The 1964 pilot ("The Lady In The Bottle") had the Screen Gems "dancing sticks" logo, and was originally shown only to NBC executives and sponsors of Jeannie's first season (L&M cigarettes.) Canada also had the "dancing sticks" logos on the B&W episodes from September 1965-September 1966. The "S From Hell" logo debuted on Canadian television on September 1, 1966.
probably because although "I Dream Of Jeannie" is an iconic piece of TV history, I hate to say but any decent actor could have played Major Nelson. It was Barbara Eden and Jeannie that drew in the views and the memories. The show was named after that character. And seeing the beautiful Barbara Eden in her outfit helps draw in the views. It was a decent comedy. I loved watching it after school as a kid. Larry Hagman however helped refined nightime dramas to what they are today. JR Ewing IS Dallas more than any of the other characters on the show. He made it his own, was able to throw away the zaniness of I Dream of Jeannie and turn JR Ewing into another true American cultural icon. He made being the villain an art form, yet a villain many men inspired to be. Those old enough to remember will always remember the summer trying to figure out "who shot JR." It's that type of popularity and charisma that becomes remembered. Last thing to remember is it was syndication that really bought I Dream of Jeannie to be the TV iconic show it is today. In three of the five seasons, Jeannie ranked 26th (1965-66) and 28th (1968-1969). It was an ok show by the viewers but nothing to really write home about. Meanwhile Dallas was either the number 1 or number 2 show in the country for five of its 14 season run, and was ranked in the top 10 in seven of those years and in the top 30 for 10 season. So with all that, it is easy to see why Larry Hagman was more remembered from his Dallas run than I Dream of Jeannie.
@tonycanabal1659 funny how that works, people see the same thing but see it completely differently. If I were a smarter fellow I would delve into what attracts people to different stories and characters but I guess that's what makes life fun.
Still the most beautiful thing that ever happened to me and the scariest thing at the same time 8 years ago in the desert a kiss from a beautiful saint flash of light that turns night into day
To me as a 1968 kid, Claudio Guzman's was the most interesting and important credit on that screen. I grew up to be a television director and producer in Hollywood.
The stuff you Know as a kid is the Knowingest stuff you'll ever Know. If stuck in life look back to what you Knew as a kid. Then restart your life and do THAT.
Claudio had previously directed several episodes of "THE PATTY DUKE SHOW", when Sidney Sheldon was its head writer. When he was looking for "rotating" directors in the middle of season one, he asked Claudio to be one of them [Hal Cooper was the other]. In time, he asked Guzman to assume the producer's duties, while Sheldon became executive producer.

I worked in a curiosity shop, and several of those Jeannie bottles came and went through the years. They were made to decant liquor, of course, not djinn.
These are the THIRD season opening and closing. First season was completely different theme, and second season was a different arrangement from this one, not used in syndication.
Which is why we have dancehall reggae today. The drums for "I dream of Jeanie" was the blueprint of the dancehall reggae drum beats. Whether we know it or not, Hugo Montenegro created dancehall reggae at that time🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁
As kid that didn't watch it, were playing at the time so i was aware of it and maybe watch few episodes, i ve always confused it with Bewitched. For obvious reasons as it was the answer to it.
For some reason, I think this is the 3rd season version. The second season version had timpani drums, and the 4th and 5th season had a fuller sound than this.
I have a question. I watched the show back in the day. I remember Jeannie’s smoke body dancing away from her for a few beats before she glares at it and it goes to her. Am I remembering it correctly, or is it a Mandela?
Too bad this is the version that went into syndication after 2000. It's missing a note in the start of the bridge. Unfortunately Columbia/Sony Pictures didn't give two squats about "I Dream of Jeannie" as there are multiple episodes where they have LOST the master copies and only have chopped up syndication reels to fill the gaps.

No, DePatie/Freeleng (DFE) Enterprises Animation (owned by Friz Freleng and David DePatie) animated the "Jeannie" opening, but didn't get any credit by Screen Gems due to the fact that DFE Animation was owned and distributed by United Artists Television. Hanna-Barbera Animation did animate the opening for "Bewitched." Not only did H-B animate the opening (and closing), but Screen Gems also recruited H-B to do a 1964 "Flintstones" episode with Sam and Darren as promotion of "Bewitched" to children (though at the time, "Bewitched" was a pretty adult show, until at least with the birth of Tabitha in 1965.) On top of that, according to CLG Closing Logo Group's wiki info, H-B also animated and designed the 1963-1966 Screen Gems "dancing sticks" logo.
Nope, DFE animation. The same people who made the "Pink Panther" cartoons. Screen Gems didn't give DFE any credit since they were owned by United Artists pictures. H-B did, however animated a 1973 cartoon on CBS for Screen Gems based on "Jeannie". Barbara Eden and Larry Hagman did not do the voices on that cartoon, however, Jeannie had red hair instead of blonde, and the plot was changed from Jeannie being the genie of a middle-aged astronaut named Tony to a teenager named Corey. Jeannie was also given a dim-witted male genie sidekick named "Babu" who was not in the original series and was voiced by former Three Stooges /Abbot & Costello actor Joe Besser.
Such an innocent and iconic theme. Wish I had a time machine!

Screen Gems restricted the opening only to one intro (1966) to save money for syndication runs. Same with other shows from Screen Gems.
