Stunning capture! May I feature this no flaps landing in one of my next episodes? Of course with a link back to your original video. All the best to you!
Nice video, thanks for sharing. As far as I know the landing speed of a 737-8 is generally between 130-150 knots air speed. According to Flight Radar 24, the ground speed at touchdown was 175 knots. The ground speed at liftoff was 160 knots. The aircraft had actually taken off from Perth just 44 minutes earlier, so they must have become aware of the problem just after takeoff and opted to turn back. It was heading to Broome on QF1070. The previous day it landed at Perth with a ground speed of 149 knots.
Great catch! Would you be okay with me featuring this in my series Weekly Dose of Aviation? Of course you will be credited both in the video and in the description. Thanks!
No flaps landing on a 737 is actually scary… you’re not much slower than a space shuttle landing. If you heard a plane overran the runways on landing, 90% you can bet its a 737
@@jonathanparle8429 That would be concerning but i would be the same with you on counting on the pilot to know whether he or she is configured correctly haha.
Looks to me like they had some flap extended as the flap canoes had moved downward so I would imagine they had flaps 1 out. The main thing was they had normal leading edge slats out which gives the biggest reduction in stall speed. Vref for a 737-800 at typical landing weights (flaps 30) is around 135 kts. An approach speed of 175 kts would equate to a Vref+30 plus any added gust margin so 175 kts sounds plausable. A flapless landing rquires no heroic skill or superhuman pilots. It's just a non-standard if rather sporty landing. They have the fire trucks out as a precaution as the brakes will get quite hot. I was a commercial pilot with jet typr ratings and ground instructor for Boeing & Airbus aircraft systems and performance.
Excellent capture. No chatter, no whooping or hollering. No shake or vertical video. Perfect.
Thanks for your nice words, I appreciate it.

No worries, thanks for asking.

Ahh i see, that's great information thanks for sharing. I still have the screenshot on flightradar but it was before they touched down.

Oh dang you commented 51 minutes ago
Sure, i sent an email with the link. Cheers.
Yikes, comin' in HOT!!!! Cool video.
Thanks, appreciate your nice comment.
As a 737 window seat passenger I'd rather experience a no flaps landing rather than the pilot trying to take-off with no flaps!
Haha you make a good point.

Lol😅😅😅

Awesome that you got to capture it! so noticeable how much quicker and higher the angle of attack is on short final! good stuff
Thanks, yes flared nicely for a soft landing.
Nice flying
Agreed, they aced that landing.
Nice landing and good job from pilot
Great video and great landing
Thanks, I thought it was a great landing too.

@@jonathanparle8429 That's all taken into account by the relevent performance tables. Runway distance is also factored by 1.67.
A really great landing considering.
That's incredible! May I feature this in a video of mine? You will be credited of course in the description and video!
Sure, i sent an email with the link. Cheers.
Fantastic video! Can I feature it? Credited on screen and with a link back!
Sure, thanks.
When was this? Also I’m a Perth citizen which has been to the viewing area. Quite stunning views of the aircrafts
Nice! Yes for sure when they land on runway 03, this was on the 30-06-23.
@@Plane_Captures Oh ok. Thank you!
What's the information for landing without flaps?
Did i see a brief flash of fire from the undercarriage near the end of the landing roll ?
I think that was a reflection of the sun from the windscreen of the firetruck waiting for them at the end of the runway.
Boeing is now offering “no doors landing” as another option.
Surprised he didn't land shorter.
Awesome...they must need a 40 knot speed increase on final
Cheers, not sure exactly the speed but i think that's a pretty accurate guess.
Hmmm so empty you mean for no flaps?
It was a mechanical problem with the flaps as the crew couldn't bring them down so they landed with no flap configuration.
@@Plane_CapturesWent well again.
Me playing ptfs be like:
hey aren’t you this kid with 3 people helping you cause I saw u i think also don’t u had 3 cups of Pepsi from costco
Hi mate, no that's not me cheers.
what is flap i land both f18 and f35b and never bother with this thing called "flap"
You can read about them here, en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flap_(aeronautics)
Don't flare!
