Excellent job. Best I’ve heard. Are the Axe FX 11 guitars available for purchase still?. I can’t find any information for purchase. Thank you for sharing this awesome video
This song, and the work Alex do on showing it to us miserable mortals, shows how to create an immortal fucking masterpiece for the ages... without doing anything special or difficult. And obviously, the absolute genius of De Garmo, Wilton, Tate, Jackson and last but not least Rockenfield, one of the most underrated drummers ever. Period. P.S. please forgive my horrible anglosaxon language, I'm Italian.
Very professionally done. I also notice your guitar intonation is dead on, which makes it much more pleasing to the ear. I subbed. You're awesome Alex !!!
Thanks so much! I'm currently working on doing some Ryche lessons at the moment so hopefully it won't be too long before they are uploaded - thanks again for watching!
Do you have any tips or tricks on how to make it sound so close to the original? I've tried playing some of the Queensrÿche stuff too and adjusting my tone closer to theirs, but I just can't even get anywhere near to something like this. Mine sounds like crap compared to yours :)
+JackPecker911 The tones I tend to go for generally are the sort of Queensrÿche 'aunch' that they tended to talk about. I use that kinda sound for most of what I do, but I can't say I ever really tried to 'tone match' or whatever - I just kinda used my ears til I was in the ball park and had something that sounded decent to me. I tend to use a little amount of gain, have my treble and mids just over mid way, bass just below - and thats kinda it! With the axe, it was so easy to bring up the HBE and a really good ML soundlab IR and have a great tone straight away. But when using my Cornford, that was the kinda approach I had (although I used less treble - that thing was very toppy!) But yeah, thats not a guide to matching QR - thats just how I go about my tone. With the Axe Fx2, if I'm not getting the tone I want with a great IR and just adjusting the 'front panel' knobs, then its not the amp sim for me. I don't like delving into the advanced parameters too much.
+Alex Ward That is very helpful actually. I'm not exactly a virtuoso at playing guitar so tips like this come in handy. I can pick up bits and pieces from songs by ear, but I'm not yet at a level where I can just repeat what I just heard on guitar or copy the tone easily just by hearing it. It still takes a bit more time and effort in my case sadly :) but gotta keep practicing and same goes with tuning my gear and making it sound better in general. Thank you so much for posting these videos and taking your time to answer my question.
+JackPecker911 No worries dude! I think trying to get absolutely spot on to the tone you hear on a record is a bit futile as what you're hearing has gone through a lot of post processing and mastering. For me, I know what kind of sound I like - and after years of playing through different amps and pickups etc I sorta know what I need to do to get there - it's all about trial and error and when you're just not getting there, there is a large community of guitarists on hand who love to help :) It's a non stop learning process!
+JackPecker911 oh and the aural skill will get there! You've got to do lots of it, and start simple - don't try figure out megadeth full speed ya know - start with nursery rhymes then build up to simple melodies/chords and so on. The more you do, the better you get! \m/
+Alex Ward I should record nursery rhymes and post them here on youtube for all of you to enjoy :) I could probably at least play those correctly and at full speed :P
william chiusano Haha! Thanks so much man, I’d love to play it! I’m not a video editor in the slightest haha as is very noticeable from these videos but glad you got something out of it!
