Hey, while I watch you for the great scientific tests, I see repeatedly, some devices are measured terribly, yet you still find a way to rate it positively, as with this crap of a ring... It does 90% of it should do terribly, useless HR and sleep tracking... I think this is a product you should only suggest the viewer to avoid. Perhaps you are trying to be too nice?
This is a very timely video! As a new owner of the AmazFit Active 2 and new to Amazfit in general, I was very curious about the Helio. I appreciate your extensive test and feel it might be better waiting for the next generation.
But we say this with every generation, for example with the amazfit BIP, and it's worse than better. I don't think anything will change until Amazfit changes the algorithms in the products. Now it's random graphs for sleep. I have amazfit active, and it is not able to detect waking up at night. Amazfit has great looking products, even an assistant, but what's the use if it interprets the wrong data?
Thanks so much for the review! It is very beneficial. It confirms that Amazfit does not want to improve its products in terms of data accuracy. If they wanted to, they would have reworked the sleep algorithms a long time ago.
Ive accepted that RINGS are for everyday tasks like resting, walking, sleep etc whereas watches are for proper fitness tracking like running, cycling and more. Hopefully they continue to improve and the accuary between watches and rings become close.
Nice review Rob! 👍 The Scanwatch 2 from Withings, would be a review I personally would look forward to, if it's possible to squeeze this into your list of upcoming reviews! I need a watch option, that offers step counting, and that looks like an actual "classical" watch. But also does not require frequent charging. Which I already know the Scanwatch offers. So my curiosity is mainly on how accurate the heart rate sensor is and how well the watch tracks sleep stages.....compared to Fitbit/google devices! 😉 A review of a FDA approved spo2 ring oximeter, would be really interesting as well. For example the "Circul Pro" ring, I believe is FDA approved. All the best! 🙂👍
It would be cool if you could test rings for more daily activities like low to mild activity heart rate scanning (from desk work to walking maybe) and less for sport.
Thank you for reviewing it. I was considering this ring for quite some time but after this review is no-no. Just need the Ultrahuman comparison to finally decide.
I’ve been using the Amazfit Trex 2 for a few years now. Gym. Mountain biking. Gives great result. You can use it with a HR strap for more accurate results which is necessary with MYB and any watch. The rings are a cool idea because there are times I want to wear a nice watch out but still track steps. For $150 the Amazfit Trex2 was an outstanding deal. Anything comparable would cost close to a grand which wasn’t going to happen. The Apple Watch still outperforms everything in precise accuracy.
Hey! Always enjoy your content. I am curious, the last several days I have been seeing ads for the Gard Pro Ultra smartwatch. Never heard of it before now. Have you? Could you do testing on it?
That's the review I'm looking for also! During cardio exercise I wear a polar chest strap. I still want something for general health tracking, all day. Sleep, temperature, etc.
@TheQuantifiedScientist promised a review a year ago. Unsure, if UH app offers exporting data needed for the review already, or if Rob doesn't have time (or doesn't wanna review the ring as he promotes Oura a lot. ;-))
I think for something like this the most important things are accuracy of HRV tracking, readiness, resting heart rate, step count and sleep. of course I am very thankful for what you did test, it seems doubtful it would work particularly well for anything but resting HR.
I'd love to see a review of the Amazfit Cheetah. I know it's not the newest model, but you can get it for under 100 Euros. It got updated on zepp os 4.0. could be a good choice for many people for the money.
Honestly I use iphone only because the apple watch is the best health device with best implemented other features as well. I really hope others catch up so that i can finally go back to android again.
Thank you for another great review! I bought the T-Rex 3 after watching your review and am super happy with it. I actually waited for your review before buying it. I will wait for a newer version of the Helio Ring though...
Whats weird is I remember having a Amazfit T rex gen one and thinking is sleep score was one of the most accurate. I had a new baby that was up most nights and it used to give me scores in the 60's... The situation is (sadly) the same in relation to a kid messing up my sleep (new baby) but my Garmin and Oura ring keep giving me scores in rhe high 80's and 90's! 😅
Please test the Casio square, I’d prefer to see results from the square, not the round one. Thanks for the videos I watch many of them and I don’t own any fitness trackers lol.
The thing with Smart-rings is - it's sole purpose is giving you data... If it's inaccurate Data the hardware effectively becomes E-Waste. At least with smartwatches you dunno, get alerts, pay using nfc etc.
Ok si the tracking is not the best, but its nice to see that there are other ring options that does not charge a monthly subscription. Let’s just wait until they improve the tracking. And hopefully low a bit the price
Thank you for all your videos. I'm still waiting for an Android Smartwatch with good sleep tracking. Or maybe the Ultrahuman Ring could also be interesting.
Out of curiosity, will you ever try the PineTime? Edit: Also curious if you'll compare more H10 apps like Sleep as Android (maybe even a new video comparing the apps)
Pixel watch 3 !? Probably perform the same as a Fitbit charge 6 because it’s the same software and hardware for the fitness tracking but it would be interesting to see
Did I miss something? Isn't the entire point to have a ring that can be worn at night during sleep with an app that integrates with an activity watch worn during the day?
You should make your website more informative like adding the research findings, data tables, verdicts, comparison, thoughts etc. We all love some great read really. Love from Bangladesh
Not great. The one aspect that I think is very interesting is the ring is designed to augment the watches. More specifically wear the watch for workouts and the ring for sleep. I have this and find it nice that I can wear a regular watch at the office and still track steps etc also sleeping w the ring is way better than a watch from a comfort perspective. It is also suppised to aggrigate data from both sources to help imorove accuracy. This it does not look like accuracy is a strength of the ring.
Can you review the boat smart ring.boat is a one of the consumer wearable brand that sells budget products for Indian consumers. Can test it.Boat is one of the largest brand in India
That's an eye-opening review that shows how pointless a poorly-engineered smart ring is 👍🏻 It would appear that the instance you grip something right (e.g. while riding a bicycle), these rings don't give you any usable data at all. It's all just hot garbage, not contributing any meaningful insight. At least when running, it's giving some usable metrics that's similar to the chest strap in terms of overall pattern or trend. Hopefully the next generation of smart rings can be more accurate, and the vendors' apps (e.g. Amazfit Zepp in this case) can "stack" the watch and ring data together for users that wear both an Amazfit watch and Helio ring to see the metrics coming from both sources, or "fuse" both sets of data together to have a cohesive view of total daily steps, heart rate metrics, etc. But that'll only be of use if the data is good.
Disappointing results, but not unexpected. None of these rings do a great job from what I am seeing from your tests. I would like to see the results charts with just the rings without the watches so we can see them isolated by themselves.
The more I see these rings the more I wonder what these are for. The only use I can see is maybe tracking menstrual cycle for women looking to get pregnant like the Oura ring. I’ll stick with my Apple and Galaxy Watch.
Do you plan to test the Casio DW-H5600-2DR? I’m interested in purchasing it, but I couldn’t find current and reliable tests regarding the accuracy of its heart rate measurement.
Notice how the bikes behind you also copied each others design, just like any bike made since the last century? The same goes for almost every car you can buy and most other things. Why would they have to invent different names for the categories of their apps when they all measure the same data points and give similar information and advice?
What is the purpose of this device since it is so bad? Why sending it in the market in this state? I have a Huawei watch 2, it sucks on sleep recording but is top on heart rate and good for others. It is not so expensive (I paid less than 100 usd) and the battery lasts for 10 days, so It makes sense. But this ring is crap. I understand Oura is very expensive and the chineses copyied like always and try to flood the market with cheap replicas but this product in useless.

These companies should stop making e-waste at this point. It's not like they have an average performance but it's sub standard.
That's what concerns me. All this e waste, it'll all end up in the food chain and we'll be doomed.
it's capitalism, baby. :)
Actually, it would be a topic too big to stay under a video on youtube... I agree with you, but the market has its rules.
Stupid comment

How about ultrahuman ring air ? you must test this item.
he gets affiliate money from oura so I guess thats the reason there is no ultrahuman review :)
what about the ring from Ringconn? They have Gen 1 / Gen 2 and to come Gen 2 Air. Would love to see your review about it. Cheers!

Resting heart rate during the night should be relatively easy, even for the helio

indeed the ring is just a companion to the watch, i feel the sleep tracking is quite good honestly, but not with the watch

Yeah at this point they deserve their own chart since it's a different form factor
Good point! Once I have more rings I will
You are going too soft on this but you used quite harsh words for Venu 3/3s even that had way way better performance than this ring.
The more I see these rings the more I wonder what these are for. The only use I can see is maybe tracking menstrual cycle for women looking to get pregnant like the Oura ring. I’ll stick with my Apple and Galaxy Watch.
