Figure of the year. I bought my Slithe as a kid as a R&B LOTR Orc, I never watched Thundercats. I have this figure pre-order, can't wait for it to arrive.
can't wait for mine to arrive. Slithe and Mum-ra mummy form is the only Thundercats figure I had as a kid so they have quite a nostalgia feeling for me :)
You're definitely the only reviewer I know of that has a deep love for ThunderCats. It's not just another figure. I kept waiting for the inevitable official cancellation of the line, but shit got real all of a sudden. So it really blows me away we're actually getting brand new figures.
@Ali J Oh yes. I'm an artist, so I'm very visual. ThunderCats did something for me He-Man and others didn't; not just visually, but story-wise. I'm not into anime, but I'll always say that the one I'm into is ThunderCats lol. And I just love anthropomorphic characters.
@Ali J Yeah, Bernard Loomis' term "toyetic" really comes to mind. Had to look that name up by the way, not like I remembered it. I always thought they were _way_ more visually interesting than MOTU...but He-Man just took off a lot more. I even bought those Bandai figures back in the day, hoping they'd continue (even though they weren't great). So the mega scale Mezco's have been my main display of 'em. I really love the passion of that one instagram guy We Want More ThunderCats, I think their name is. Gotta get more attention on the property now that Super7 has actually released a new figure. Originally I thought they couldn't go that deep in the line, but there's way more characters than I remembered. Here's hoping once a few more releases come out, the orders will pick up and they'll put more priority on the series.
Yeah, after Matty Collector cancelled future Thundercat figures, I thought the figure line was doomed until SUPER 7 came to the rescue and I think they are doing a great job. The increased price compared to Matty Collector’s pricing hurt a little in that I had to pick and choose which figure I really wanted.
Thanks for the review and thanks for doing it when your house is a mess after a move. I am sure you had more pressing things to do. The figure looks awesome.
Glad these are finally making it to people! I definitely need to pick up this wave! I know you've had a hard time of it recently, so I'm glad you at least have this as a small comfort, Toy Bro.
Slithe is definitely one of the best figures SUPER 7 has done. The Quality on this one gives me real hope for the future. Keep it up SUPER 7, your heading in the right direction...
I'd say, while the other figures are more "humanoid", Slythe is more "anthropomorphic". Either way, I like how "cartoon accurate" Slythe looks, especially when compared to his vintage counterpart. The two axes were a nice touch, with one being "cartoon accurate", & the other being vintage "toy inspired".
I agree. I'd also like to add (if I may be so bold), that besides being a "reptilian character", they have a little bit of "fish" in them. Yeah, most don't know the knotted handled "vintage LJN axe" axe is infact inspired by the "vintage LJN axe." I am wondering which "weapon" Slithe "used" the most...the "cartoon axe" or "the mace."
@@Chalor. Fish? Hmmm...I was thinking maybe amphibian, but Mudpuppies & Mudskippers are classified as "amphibious fish". As a kid, I recall Slythe wielding his mace more. It'd make more sense for "cartoon censorship", because it'd be difficult for him to attack foes w/ his axe w/o seriously harming, or even killing them (especially since he's evil).
@@Blackblax Yes lol, I *much* prefer you referring to them as an amphibian type dude over what I said. I don't wanna think of them as a Merman or Creature from the Black Lagoon...or how a lot of ppl are referring to them as a goblin from the Hobbit. That's awesome you spelt their name with a y. I used to be really confused on how to spell it, cause I'd see it done 3 different ways. And thank you so much for answering the weapon thing. I was thinkin' it was probably the mace, but now I know...and knowing is half the battle.
@@Chalor. Oh ok. N/p & you're welcome. I think Slythe & his race should be referred to as "amphibious reptiles". But I believe they're race is called "reptiles" or whatever by the other races of Thundar. They look far more like reptiles than fish, so I doubt anyone would be calling Slythe's race "Mermen" or "Creatures from the Black Lagoon". If anything, they're somewhat like Iguanas (which are more marine than most reptiles, outside of maybe gators & crocs). I just remember Slythe wielding a mace in the cartoon (as a kid), & only remember his toy having an axe. I'm guessing his toy had an axe, because Monkian (aka Monkey Man as I used to call him as a kid) had a flailed mace, which is similar to a spiked mace, expect it's "ball" is attached to its "grip"/handle, by a chain. So they were probably trying to diversity the mutants weapons, like they did w/ the ThunderCats. Which makes perfect sense.
I still have my original Slithe as well. I ordered this one as it was a great representation of the cartoon and would go well with my original one. Thanks for the review. Mine is still sitting in my "pile of loot", so hopefully I'll have it in a month or so when I get around to shipping it.
What a great figure! So glad I decided to go all in with Thundercats. There are some really great toy lines out there I had to say no to but figures like this make me glad I am sticking with this line. This is a stand out figure like Ram Man was with Masters of the Universe Classics. Well done on the review and thanks!
I like your shelving space for your action figures, most of mine are still in there original packaging and mailing boxes as I've run out of room LOL!😉🙃
I'm just waiting on Jaga to come into stock on BBTS and then they will send me the 3 characters from Wave 3. Slithe will definitely be the stand out for this wave, though Cheetara may take it away once they get her issues fixed and she come out.
It's interesting that when me and my friends were kids, we didn't care too much for lady figs. I mean there was the exception like a Teela or April, but they certainly weren't popular. For me, Cheetara's value comes from being one of the main ThunderCats. So yeah, just an interesting observation with the adult collectors being much more into the female figures than kids. That being said, I'm certainly glad they're prolonging the delay that much more to get it more accurate.
Seeing this just reaffirms how much I want Super 7 to do a Rankin & Bass Hobbit line... I mean, it's gotta happen, right? They absolutely nail that style, and it looks so good!
Slithe, Wind Hammer, & Hardware were certainly reminiscent of those goblins. If your hip; Its a shame 'Flight of Dragons' is so obscure., I'd love the Ogre or the red wizard.
Excellent work from The Four Horsemen! The sculpting looks cartoon-acurate, while only adding subtle details to make him more realistic w/o going overboard. For instance, adding scales & a leather-like texture to his straps over his torso. Would've loved to see him come w/a rifle. But you can't have everything, I suppose. Can't wait to get mine!
This figure is absolutely MAGNIFICENT. My only wish i that the tail was on a balljoint (but then maybe it wouldn't have functioned as well as a third leg). But man, they absolutely nailed this one. The waist joint gives him a surprising amount of expressiveness.
Excellent review as always! Man I'm trying to be patient and wait for Jaga to hit my pile of loot before I pull the trigger, but all these amazing reviews by my favorite RUclipsrs are making it very difficult to hold out! I'm gonna try to be strong though and wait lol
I remember Brian Flynn saying they'd show off wave 5 when new figures come out. Let's see 'em! I can imagine they probably have 12 prototypes that have been sittin' on a shelf over a year. Sucks that Brian isn't a fan of Snarf, so man lol, it'll probably be 2027 until we get them.
You and review spot are my favorite toy reviewers just your enthusiasm for figures is awesome and that is what collecting is about enjoying the characters we love ! When you finish unpacking could you do a collection video turtles and thundercats and Spiderman are my favorites things to collect!
I know the whole deal with switching factories (listened to all of Brian's interviews), but I still don't know why ThunderCats got the short end of the stick. As in all of those Turtles figures have come out, but it's taken _this long_ for *one* ThunderCats figure. It's like their objective was to put this cursed franchise once again on the back burner to get out as many Ninja Turtles figures as possible. You know, cause they're capitalizing on NECA's stuff being so popular. And part of it seems like the Chinese _really_ hate ThunderCats lol.
@@chrisl.9942 Yeah, definitely. Should be a first come first serve situation, but they're absolutely capitalizing at the expense. I mean I love Turtles even more, but I'm 99% focused on the cartoon line. I know a lot of collectors prefer the Playmates style, but it's all about cartoon accuracy for me. And even though they're not as durable, the NECA stuff looks much more premium. Chrome Dome's a goddamn masterpiece of visual trickery with the line work.
Super7 nailed the look as usual but they missed an opportunity to release a crazy good action figure here, maybe the best so far. The tail articulation is very limited, that torso design was begging for a cut bellow the chest, a bit more range going up on the arms shouldn't have been that hard to achieve, the arms would have benefited a lot from a bicep swivel and Super7 could have gone the extra mile by adding butterfly joints to the shoulders (even if they only moved back like the ML Hulk ones). They could have done all this without damaging the sculpt, they would've maybe spent a bit more and therefor earned a bit less but with the price they're charging I expect them to have some margin for that and still make good money. Maybe I'm wrong about that last bit but still it hurts knowing this action figure could've been so much better so easily. P.S. I can even fathom some articulation on the neck that alongside all the other improvements I suggested would've made this figure the best and a very hard to beat best.
Why do the TMNT characters get their own specific logo on the packaging but all the bad guys for Thundercats get the same Mumm-Ra packaging? The Reptilians had a logo on the show, as did the Monkians and Jackalmen.
