    Honestly after reading The Song of Achilles, I swore to myself that I’d read any book that Madeline Miller puts out. I’m so excited to read Circe.

      I had the same reaction after reading TSOA for the first time! Such a big fan of her work 📖

    What a fantastic analysis, so articulate and insightful! I bought Circe when it first came out but hadn’t gotten the chance to get into yet. The way you spoke about it makes me even more excited to read it now.

    Thank you for this! It was one of my most anticipated releases of the year and I got it as soon as I could, but I've seen some mixed reviews since then, so seeing this renewed my excitement for it!

    • @perpetualpages
      @perpetualpages  6 лет назад +1

      You're welcome! Yeah, I've seen many reviews that are in the vein of "this thing was not the thing I wanted so it is bad," which is a really strange take IMO. It was different from what Miller accomplished in TSOA, but I personally think those differences are a beautiful thing! I went in loving Miller's work and came out with an even deeper appreciation ❤ I hope you enjoy it!

    I love Greek mythology and retellings of it, so this is a definite must-read! (Same goes for TSOA.)

    • @perpetualpages
      @perpetualpages  6 лет назад +1

      ABSOLUTELY on both accounts! _TSOA_ is great for those epic gay vibes and _Circe_ fits those feminist empowerment vibes perfectly. I hope you enjoy both of these treasures ❤

    ♨️Your Analysis ALONE is why I just read CIRCE it has left me with a wonderful feeling, this story is so different from anything that I have ever read.
    The book structure being lineal was impeccably & so ambitious.
    I love how they showed CIRCE's evolution, with experience came Power, CIRCe became so strong and unwilling to back down in the face of such Power. Thank you , thank you so much .

    • @perpetualpages
      @perpetualpages  6 лет назад +1

      Absolutely! What you said about Circe's evolution and not backing down from power perfectly fits the story. I was definitely moved by her growth and her strength the most! ❤

    I realize I’m a bit late to the party, but I just finished Circe earlier today and was curious to read some reviews. I just wanted to say that your summation was absolutely amazing! You touched on everything, large and small, that I adored about this book and you even found the words to talk about the feelings I was having about it, but couldn’t articulate. So thank you for sharing your thoughts! I now have somewhere to send people to explain why they need to read this special book. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
    And I’m now a subscriber, so I can’t wait to see some of your other reviews, and possibly get turned on to some new authors/books to read this year. Keep up your amazing work!

    I’m very excited to read this book, as it seems focused very much on character development and female empowerment, and especially as a half Greek woman myself! Just ordered this book because of your wonderful review!

    One of my favorite books is till we have faces by CS Lewis. It does a fantastic job of showing the tension and complexity of people and our narratives about ourselves and who we are but it also does a really amazing job of showing a very complex and very conflicted main female character.
    Your description of Circe and how she’s treated initially by her family reminds me very strongly of how the main character in that book is treated by everyone she knows including her family.
    It’s also based on the myth of Cupid and Psyche

    Another good review. Succinct and interesting. I’m guessing this is the American edition cover. Beautiful use of the flowers and herbs that gave agency to Circe. Rather than witch I’d prefer to call her the first pharmacist. The heritage of wise women stretching from the Paleolithic to today’s botanical women adventurers is well represented by Circe. Very much enjoyed this book and as much recommend it to read. A. LaVerdiere Calgary Canada 🍁🏳️‍🌈🇨🇦🌸⚖️

    It could very well be my depression taking away my enjoyment of everything but I didn't like Circe as much as I thought I would. I found it a bit...boring I guess? Don't get me wrong I did love the way it handled things, it's just that nothing really captivated me. The Song of Achilles is my favorite book so maybe I was comparing it to that too much as well but I didn't like it as much as probably should have.

    • @perpetualpages
      @perpetualpages  6 лет назад +1

      Understandable! I think some people just do the story a disservice by going it thinking it's going to be TSOA, which was so differently structurally and thematically. There's a lot of overlap, but Circe definitely has narrative that's a slower boil and that has a more gradual payoff. I enjoyed it for those differences while other people did not, and that's cool. Maybe you would enjoy it more if you ever choose to revisit it in the future!
