We use a rock drill in the winter if there is a lot of frost and it's not obvious where the issue is really at. Sometimes the failure is 100 feet down the road. So we locate the pipe in all directions and drill through the frost (I've seen our 4 ft. bit not go through all the way) until we get a nice flow. Then we confirm with our ground mic. We water guys are a hearty group, no one ever wants to work in our dept!! Good job guys!
We've kinda did the same procedure with the hammer for situations where the water is pushing under asphalt as well! Poke a few holes and see where it comes out the most. Leaks can definitely lead you in a wild goose chase! Thanks as well!
@@lidsman2221 We've had 9 breaks so far this year! I have recorded what I could of them and will get some edited asap. Been an unusually busy year at work so far. Have a few other projects as well at work and after the day job I'll be getting together as well.
We have access to vac trucks but generally don't have too much in the way so we just dig. We will pothole stuff if needed with our little vac trailer sometimes as well.
I don’t know the name of the guy in the hole fixing the line but he is really good. All of the guys are good
Wow man this video is sick you never disappoint me Tim, Good stuff man ! I can’t wait for more brotha!
Thanks Danny! Got some different stuff going up in the next few weeks. Seems like all we've had is main breaks lately! Take care!
Great work TIm, hard working crew in harsh conditions.

Just like old times. I really do miss those days.
Warmest place is in the hole with a shovel. Nice job fellas
Wow that is cold! Looks lovely and bright there though. 🙂
all right guys, here in Brazil more precisely in Curitiba, we are replacing the iron water pipe mainer with pvc, big hug
Enjoyed you video. Stay warm here in Saskatchewan we've had a bit of a break in the cold but last night -20 could be worse.
Yikes! Yeah that's a bit extreme! Thank you and you do the same!
Love your videos. Keep them coming. Thanks.
Thank you!
@@TimMcArdle Got any coming up soon? Thanks.

crush and run stone? which stone mix do you prefer?
Crappy job to do on the best of days, but the sub zero temps really suck.
Great hard working crew.👍
I like that you have reflective clothes, looks more professional. That weather is to cold to work in but I guess you don’t get to choose.
That look like a temp clamp, are you guys going back to get it again with a permanent one?
No, need. A stainless steel full circle clamp will outlast the pipe on either side of it.
Do you ever hydroexcavate these?

I’d love to see how they tie utilities mainly sewer water and gas for a new neighborhood let’s say 100+homes
I like to put nuts down on band clamps in case there mite be future digging in that local.
Where is this location?
I am starting my new position soon doing the same thing definitely need to get my class b for the dump truck within 90 days any pointers?
Don't panic! It's just water. Lol. Watch, pay attention and ask questions.
@@TimMcArdle Also you will still be learning 20 years from now.
Where do i 1 of those things u guys use to find the mains
Are you talking about prod rod
You guys earn your money.
What u call that belt thst cleans the pipe
Don't know it's official name but we call it a chain cleaner. Just metal flaps on links.
It’s a pipe descaler. Nice job. Great video.
I called it a shoe shine 😂
I heard you say "A hole" was there another one you guys were working on or just the one full of water?
Ahaha!
cmon fellas help pump the water out for the guy in the hole
Congratulations, post more video, Thank.
