Thanks for the comment CNCmachiningisfun. I have been reading as much info as I can on this technology and I think this can be built to not only be clean but to stay clean without an expansive elaborate setup. I will be doing quite a few follow up videos on the FEMA setup as I hone in a filter system. I am hoping to build a filter that will clean the FEMA up no matter how nasty the gas is. Time will tell but stay tuned.

Thanks. I am hard at work and 99% completed on what might be one of the better designs out on the youtube channels because it's a Imbert and it will only have one air nozzle over the ember bed. Stay tuned.

Good stuff here! I agree that this is the best set of videos for information/demonstration that I have seen yet.

This is one of the older videos here. If you get a chance, check out video 6.
This vortex filter was built out of a gallon paint can and a quart paint can and it was partitioned inside with steel baffles to cause the gas to swirl. It worked OK but I found something that dusted the vortex away and that was to use a 10 gallon tank instead. I'm not sure where I made the transition but just rummage through the other videos and it will make sense to you. The videos are numbered in order.

I did do one good thing with the gasifier project and that was to make it future proof. I decided right from the start to make everything upgradable and recyclable and this has sped things up. The solar project was something else I wanted to take on too. One of my reasons to get these systems up and running was you just don't know what's over the horizon these days.

thanks for the sub sorry i have no videos yet, no camera. lots of good info on youtube if you look long enough. real glad i found your channel best info on gasifier i have found in 6 months of looking, very clear, well explained and to the point. thank you

You are where I want to be. I have 270 watts worth of solar panels brand new in the box along with 4 115AH 6 volt batteries and a MPPT controller and I just designed and built my own controller that should rival the MPPT controller plus it accepts wind, solar and a 15 Amp AC input source that can even be a small trickle charge AC source for battery maintenance but the gasifier is my top priority since it's a fuel producer!

This is definitely a project that I feel is well worth the effort to pursue. I've got a couple of other buddies that see this as being something as "real" and they have been bitten by this too. My wife was looking at my hands and she remarked that I hat tiny cuts, burns and scrapes all over them but that's to be expected especially when you are welding and using saws, hammers and power tools.

Try some Straw from the farmer down the road for a filter material. When you need to clean the media, spray it down with a garden hose right inside the filter. Place a drain for the water & soot to exit from bottom of your filter canister, make sure you can seal off the drain with a cap, After draining the media, screw the cap back on your drain hole, and begin using the system again. The same media can be used multiple times.

j johns Thanks man... I actually cut my barrel with a jigsaw. It worked really well. I could see how fiberglass could work but the best fix is to get the bed of coals hot enough to crack the tar. It's 1:20am and I just finished doing a bunch of major changes on the gasifier I built in the video. I am trying different configurations to see just how clean I can get the gas before I build the new unit that will crack tar. I may make a 3rd video before the weekend is out.

The cyclone does remove trash from the system without a doubt but I am trying something on a hunch along with what I have learned tinkering with this. It is 1:30AM and I just finished up with a lot of major mods! I have been at this since 9:30AM. starting with picking up parts from the junk yard. I hope to have a 3rd video released by Sunday with the new changes so let's keep our fingers crossed that these changes help out scrubbing the gas!

Your work and time producing these videos is absolutely amazing. Thank you! I’m a Millwright in southern Oregon. Have you considered writing a book about this project? I know I’d purchase it if you have one. Thanks again for sharing your endeavors with us working folk who are just trying to make it in todays world. The way things are going, this is definitely going to be a must have item in my emergency preparedness.

You have got by far the best wood gasifier design I have seen yet. The only part of your system that I am not fully understanding is the vortex filter. Can you go into a little more detail about how that is built?

I've read where fiber glass insulation was being used as a filter material.
what did you cut the tank with?
Flash, you are absolutely producing some of the most informative videos on the net. I cannot be thankful enough.

I think I'm also going to remove the vortex filter and go with a 2 ft tall container that's about 8 or 8 inches in diameter. Something tells me that allowing the gas to immediately expand will also help clean and cool the gas too. I just got back from checking out some materials but I have not found what I'm looking for yet. I'll let you know what I find.

j johns I just did a 3rd set of test tonight (12-23-2012) I hope to have the results in a video sometime tomorrow. I will also discuss cracking tar in that video too.

dantco Thanks for the reply. I want to keep this project open source and share everything that I am doing with those that may be interested. Check out video 6 If you have not seen it yet. I was able to get a really good filtering system designed from all of this experimenting so the work paid off. I'm building a very simple Imbert design that can be built by anybody without the need for specialized tools other than a small MIG welder so keep an eye out for a new finalized video soon.

j johns I'm not there yet but I do have 270 watts worth of solar panels along with a MPPT controller and I also built a controller that rivals the MPPT design too. At this time I have 4 deep cycle 115 AH batteries for a 24 volt system. I really want to use the gasifier not only as an AC source but as a battery charging system too. I have also started on a small windmill project.
I have taken on a lot of projects but the gasifier is taking center stage because it produces cheap fuel.

Lol, If my memory serves me when I made this video someone at this time said we were in end times and that it would happen on 12/22/2012 and at the last minute I reedited the video and added that remark as a joke.
