I appreciate that the crux of the film is that the man in the photo was not important, but breaking out of Bruce's funk, exploring new realms and finding new opportunities was. It's just the little nudge that helps life move forward. How beautiful.
I have to say Danny, as a young indie filmmaker, this short film has given me so much inspiration and life to keep going. After watching your BTS for this film, I thought to myself, "I can't wait to watch this 10 minute short film", only to come here and see this 24 minute masterpiece. What you were able to create is honestly breathtaking and I wanna thank you for making it. Your work is a tru inspiration and I hope you continue it forever. This film is magical.
Incredible film. Love the humor and the developing of Bruce and his friendship with his coworker. Been having a hard time watching films lately without getting ancy or bored. I was thoroughly engaged throughout this. As someone who bought a Canon C200 at 16yrs old when I saw what Danny did with his back in 2020, then got an FX3 when Danny got his, and has been thoroughly inspired by Danny throughout these past 5 years, all I can say is thank you Danny from the bottom of my heart. You have been a huge part of my film journey.
Another great one with a lovely core message of breaking out of the mundane, exploring new opportunities, and treasuring the relationships you have around your circle. The chemistry between the 2 leads was amazing; I was holding off from watching BTS and waited for this to come out-now straight back to BTS. Carlos Cameo at 4:32, you smashed it again, mate; beautiful compositions-you guys together are the real deal! So inspiring! Thanks, Danny, for continuing to push yourself and inspiring so many of us in this journey! Love you, brother.
Watching your work feels very nostalgic and real. Makes me like movies again the way they used to be very meaningful and heartfelt where everyone came together for each other and you can see that in every frame.
You really are the GOAT Filmmaker on this platform. So many great underlying themes in this that are so important. Mix in the moments of genuine humor & quirk and it's pure gold. Proud of you Danny! Your storytelling and craft elivates with every project.
Absolutely loved every second of this film. Thank you so much for sharing your process and art with us. It’s so beautiful to resonate on the things that are most important in life, life’s too short and we should never miss an opportunity to appreciate the people who have always been there that we can take for granted. The ending was simply beautiful.
Danny, you’re an absolute inspiration to me. As a highschool filmmaker, you’ve helped me get into documentary, filmmaking, and really push me to continue getting better as I watch your progress through your RUclips videos. This film was amazing, and it came at a perfect time as I am trying to plan a longer form film. Please keep making content like this, especially the behind the scenes aswell. I love it. Thank you Danny 🫶🫶
This is awesome! What I got from this is that we are so focused on other things that are so irrelevant that really most of the time we just need to focus on what's in front of us.
Danny and Crew, you are amazingly gifted. I loved every minute of this short film. While cracking up at your talented actors, I was also in awe of the fine ending. I can't wait to see what's next! Ding dong, well done, Danny!! :)
Danny and the crew, y’all have done it again! Absolutely demolishing the thoughts of what is possible with a “RUclips filmmaker” this was such beautifully written, played, and filmed story. You guys rock!
Danny this was beautiful in the most unexpected way. Thank you for sharing with us this piece. Im a big fan of your's from Kenya. Love what you do and your courage to always share. Although we are the same age, I wish I could do what you do in my own way , for me the journey is longer but I keep at it with inspiration from people like you. Thank you again and good luck on the festival run if you go that route.
Your shots are so intentional, the way you talked about keeping the audience engaged while making the dialogue scenes impactful and simple. And that last scene, even though it seemed to be the hardest for you guys logistically, visually I think was my favorite. This story was so unique, and fun, yet I feel like everyone can relate to that deeper feeling and that need that Bruce was looking for. Hoping there was something more out there. Thank you for sharing your art with us Danny. So inspired by you and the whole cast and crew
Watched, I think I'm sick again to get me ready for this. I'm blown away by the level of filmmaking talent on show in your work, Danny. Amazing work by all. Loved it dude
Really glad I watched the BTS for this cause I probably wouldn’t have watched this without seeing those first. Loved how simple the story was, it’s really easy to get caught up and make things complicated so this was perfect. Great job to everyone involved, can’t wait to see what’s next!
Oh Danny this is incredible! Glad I finally got to watch it. So rich with meaning and story, I that I feel like I should be reclined in a theater. Enjoyed the BTS, but loved the real thing even more. Keep it up, I'm definitely sharing this one around
I’m a fan and love the cinematography and creative execution. For future projects maybe try to really push the script within the confines of the budget. This short film has a realism-light vibe to it so it makes a bit hard to believe someone would hunt down a random person in a photo from 20 years ago. I would’ve raised the stakes way up and then toned them down to finally arrive at an inciting incident with higher stakes in the final script. It would also steer you away from the post modern execution of being like: corporate life is so bad, someone would hunt down a random person from a photo just to feel something. How could you invert that? What is something so profound that it would shake their entire worldview? Maybe it’s a letter (with a photo) for a guy with the same name wrongly delivered to him. The core philosophical takeaway is: your perception is your reality. How can you shake the pre-inciting incident reality even more to deliver on that point?
I was soooo excited to see this! Been watching your channel since the "I Think I'm Sick" bts episodes. I'm a 3rd year film major and I love your bts videos, It's really awesome to see how your work comes together. I always feel like I learn from seeing how you work on set and I find it so valuable to see the possiblitites of indie filmmaking. I'd honestly love to work with you on set if you're planning another project in the future!
Absolutely stunning work Danny and Carlo, my favourite scene shot wise has got to be that Lecture Hall, especially the warm glow from the seats was just lovely !!
This is amazing - such a nice window-of-life, ground level story that beats every "big" scope project out there, creating a great film focused on real life and making an impact instead being the next big thing. I love everything about it, fantastic work to all involved
So truck nuts is a thing, I see... The whole story is very engaging, i'd watch a long format of it. I like a lot these kind of light stories. And looks beautiful too. Great work people, great work!
Amazing! Well written beautifully shot & the actors had great chemistry. A very enjoyable experience that has inspired me to keep creating. One day I’ll make something as good as this
Watched the previous vids from the making of this short and was looking forward to seeing the final thing. I think it came together really well. Loved the lighting, the color grade (for the most part), the music choices were awesome, blocking, composition, camera moves, and the ending to the story. But there are also a few pieces of feedback I'd like to share as a viewer. For starters, the pacing started feeling pretty slow very early on into the film. I remember in one of the "making of" videos you talked about how you were considering cutting some scenes that didn't move the story forward and ultimately decided to keep them in for the sake of comedy. But I feel like there were a few too many of those that didn't quite land and they ended up making me think - "Okay, but when does this continue going somewhere?" and had me checking how long into the film I was wondering if there's enough time for the story to actually unfold. Something that ties into that is the fact that, a lot of the dialogue that was meant to be funny quickly started feeling forced... Almost like they were lines in a sitcom but the laugh track was missing. Don't get me wrong, the more emotional and serious conversations felt way better and actually pulled me back in, however at a certain point it started feeling like I'm being hit with punch line after punch line with not enough buildup behind them to make them truly funny. Also, a there were a few times when I just though "No one this age talks like that" or, more accurately, "This feels like someone way older had to come up with what "the quirky youngsters in their 20s" talk like", if that makes sense. Not all of the scenes were like that, of course. A bunch of them actually felt pretty clever and funny, but I thought the balance of comedy and serious story was off. So it was this tug of war between the slower, more emotional and genuine moments, and the rush of jokes one after another. I generally really like your color grades for pretty much anything you do, but recently, and especially in this one, I felt like the grain specifically has gotten suuuuper heavy handed. I get that this is very subjective though, but I just thought I'd share that. At points it even felt distracting. Also, for a few of the scenes, I wasn't sure if you're intentionally trying to lean into the sound design or if the mix was just off. But on top of that, there were several moments where it seemed like the sound design was supposed to enhance the funny awkward atmosphere, but the shots it was paired with didn't feel like they matched that intention. For example - in the scene where the guys look at "Hot Dog Larry" the sound design is clearly supposed to make him seem weird and make the viewer feel a bit uneasy, but that could have been such a perfect time to use some extreme close ups paired with the gross chewing sounds... We see the medium of him about to take the bite out of the hot dog, then hard cut to an ECU of him chewing it with sauce in his beard. Now he's not only (allegedly) a nudist, but the way he eats is gross, which is even more funny. Same with the water dispenser scene. The gulping noises got a lot louder and would have paired so well with an extreme close up of water dripping from his mouth and his Adams' apple moving as he drinks. But yeah, just a few moments where I think the sound design could have been tied in better with slightly different shot choices. And to end this off, I just gotta say, I know it's way easier to pick these things apart from the point of view of an audience member. So I think it's important to say I can still really appreciate all the work that went into this from everyone involved and I think there was a lot that was great about it. But who knows, maybe this can end up being helpful for the next one 😅
@georgekamenov_ I agree with most of your critiques, but as always personal preference is most important and clearly lots of people in the comments enjoyed the dialogue and story. It is disappointing Danny wasn't willing to take 5 minutes to read your comment, even if he didn't want to respond to each piece of criticism. "Little too much for me to read through, but we all have our differing opinions!" almost feels like pre-defensiveness to me. I love his work, I loved ITIS, but this short imo felt like a swing and a miss and I'm not sure he's going to acknowledge its shortcomings which is unfortunate since that's the best way to grow and improve.
@@DannyGevirtz Hey Danny, I've been a huge fan of yours for years and have been inspired by your content and films. Unless I'm just misunderstanding the meaning of your reply, I am truly disappointed by your response to this feedback. Of course, you don't ever have to act upon anyone's feedback, but the lack of care and the sanctimonious tone is baffling. You can't even READ his well-thought out reply? It's truly not even that long. For someone who gives filmmaking lessons and ends every video with "I love you guys" I just expected more understanding and care being put into your replies to fans/viewers. Again, I have a lot of respect for your work, but this was really wild to see.
I think if you surround yourself with people that only say positive things about your work you'll never improve. This was cool, but immensity badly paced which made it very boring to watch. Look at how some great films had complete re-edits and became hits! Cinematography 10/10 though.
Yes the writing is fantastic but the pacing, the pacing is exceptional. Watching films like this is what keeps us all pushing to do better. Always an inspiration. Still pumped I bumped into you whilst you were on your Honeymoon in Italy, class act Danny. 👊🏼💥
Man. You always know how to end with a wholesome and thought provoking project Danny. Always looking forward to what you do next, here to support ya!💯🙌🏾
I love how everything they fantasized the man in the photo to be was just totally wrong. He was just a normal guy, in fact, the most average and normal guy ever: leasing a prius and being a teacher lol. I loved that the guy in the office that Bruce and Chris shoved off every time he spoke was the one that could have helped them find the man in the photo all along. I loved the editing and the way you used sound effects to enhance different emotions throughout the scenes. The macro shots and montages were so sick as well.
“I ain’t ever been left dawg” 😂 Danny bro, your writing style is relatable and hilarious. Loved it bro, great job and glad to see the crew back together for another banger 🔥🔥🔥
Watch the making of "The Man in the Photo" here: ruclips.net/video/fitATXILrMw/видео.html
I appreciate that the crux of the film is that the man in the photo was not important, but breaking out of Bruce's funk, exploring new realms and finding new opportunities was. It's just the little nudge that helps life move forward. How beautiful.
Exactly the message! Thanks man!
Guy playing Craig NAILED it. He's talented af. Cool short film!
Haha Sean is the best
Another one in the books ❤️
Great cameo, bro.
Many more to come! You smashed this one for us brotha
Deam u r good
ur actually so goated
@4:31 …. Beyond unexpected. Absolute legend 😂

“I ain’t never been left, dawg” … *dab hit* - is truly Pulitzer Prize worthy
Hahahaha
Nah that was hilarious 😂
15:50 Doing the handshake again in the stalls bumping into the wall is pure comedy 🤣
Hahaha their friendship is amazing

Hahah thanks! I definitely could not

Amazing job all around on this film! Looks like a fun production.

So inspiring Danny- you show us all that it is possible to create high quality films with great storytelling with limited resources
Thanks Oscar!!
this is actually sooo good I really appreciate everyone's hard work that went into making it definitely worth the watch
Well Done! It's inspiring to see good filmmaking being done here in PA

We are so grateful having the chance to follow all of your work, Danny. This is again such an awesome piece!
Thank you so much!
This is so well done. The music selection, color, lighting, pacing, earned a sub my man!
So talented Danny ! Cant wait for the next one ! Loved this . Great actors !
This has feature film quality and feels like ten instead of twenty-four minutes.
Thank you so much man!
Really glad I watched the BTS for this cause I probably wouldn’t have watched this without seeing those first. Loved how simple the story was, it’s really easy to get caught up and make things complicated so this was perfect. Great job to everyone involved, can’t wait to see what’s next!

Amazing to hear that dude! Thanks for checking it out
This is insanely good...
Held my interest from the word go. Thoroughly enjoyable from start to finish.
Oh Danny this is incredible! Glad I finally got to watch it. So rich with meaning and story, I that I feel like I should be reclined in a theater. Enjoyed the BTS, but loved the real thing even more. Keep it up, I'm definitely sharing this one around
Such a beautiful film man. You’re truly becoming one of the greats. Can’t wait to see what’s next ❤️
I am hooked within the first 3 seconds of watching this on my 5-minute break. Well, I can watch it on my longer break in 24 minutes.

This is a classic! Great film, congrats to the crew. Glad he called his dad!
Thanks Jason! Me too!
This is incredible! Love it!
The last dialogue "Ha Pitaji"🥰. You nailed it. Lots of love from India.
from discovering you from "how to make cinematic videos" videos😆 to this, is just so inspirational. well done !!
Break the mould, be like Bruce. Another great film in the portfolio Danny, I love the coming of age elements of the recent films. Always hits home ❤
Absolutely! Thank you!
So simple yet so unique and good. Congrats on another banger Danny. Greetings from Switzerland!
Craig easily my favourite charecter and id love a spin off of just him and his life, thank you. Danny make it happen
This is insane, seeing the bts and the final product is mind blowing
really enjoyed this and I found myself laughing out loud at parts! I also loved the BTS as an accompaniment to this. Excellent work!!
Haha amazing! Thank you!
Film looks Incredible Sir, in such a short time the characters were beautifully portraited and all the actors did a phenomenal work especially Craig.
Thank you man!
For a lack of a better word, this is PHENOMENAL!!!

Absolutely stunning work Danny and Carlo, my favourite scene shot wise has got to be that Lecture Hall, especially the warm glow from the seats was just lovely !!
Thanks so much!
Got emotional and cried. Thanks for this amazing film! ❤
Ah amazing! Thank you!
As per usual. Stellar film my good sir. Witty. Impactful. 10/10 will watch again.
Thank you!!!
Heck yea 😊 so glad you are making narrative stuff again. Is it too soon to be thinking of the next feature???
Thanks brotha!! Haha been thinking about it
This is amazing - such a nice window-of-life, ground level story that beats every "big" scope project out there, creating a great film focused on real life and making an impact instead being the next big thing. I love everything about it, fantastic work to all involved
Thanks so much Collin!
@ of course man - as everyone else is saying, keep doing what you are doing, you’re absolutely on the right path and big things are coming your way :)
Absolutely amazing, well done to you and the team, the pay off after watching both of the bts videos was well worth it!
That’s awesome to hear! Thank you!!
So truck nuts is a thing, I see... The whole story is very engaging, i'd watch a long format of it. I like a lot these kind of light stories. And looks beautiful too.

Haha he’s the best
Man the way you shoot is just..... brilliant. So difficult to have a style... but yours is super caracteristic. 💥
Amazing! Well written beautifully shot & the actors had great chemistry. A very enjoyable experience that has inspired me to keep creating. One day I’ll make something as good as this
Thanks so much!!
This was so dope. Appreciate your films!
The ending!!! You inspire me Danny...and your crew!!! Well done everyone.
Thanks so much!!
This should be an Oscar Nominated Short Film 🎥🙌
Haha I appreciate that but probably not
INCREDIBLE! "It ain't ever been left, dawg" had me rolling hahaha
Hahaha glad you appreciated it
Watched the previous vids from the making of this short and was looking forward to seeing the final thing. I think it came together really well. Loved the lighting, the color grade (for the most part), the music choices were awesome, blocking, composition, camera moves, and the ending to the story. But there are also a few pieces of feedback I'd like to share as a viewer.

Haha appreciate the feedback man! Little too much for me to read through, but we all have our differing opinions!

this one for the Algo!
You already got my self destructive memo, no need to leave it there.

Great piece of work.
Loved the team efforts.

Yes the writing is fantastic but the pacing, the pacing is exceptional. Watching films like this is what keeps us all pushing to do better. Always an inspiration.
Still pumped I bumped into you whilst you were on your Honeymoon in Italy, class act Danny. 👊🏼💥
Ay thank you so much man!
Beautiful work team!!
Just fire !
Loved that final scene in the lecture hall. Felt like I was watching an A24 film. Well done, good sir!

@@DannyGevirtz Never a problem!!
HEyyyyy, watching from Brazil. This is so impressive, congrats lads.
Amazing! Thank you!
Haha thanks Will! Glad you enjoyed!
“Look at this guy, what a HOSS!” 😂😂
