    Tatum has 1 triple double and 4 double-doubles so far in the 6 games the Celtics have played. His on and off-ball defense (that isn't being recognized) has arguably been the best of his career. He's doing everything that doesn't show up in the stat sheet to win games. Having watched his entire career, his approach this postseason is very different than in the past, as he wants a championship more than the induvial accolades, although he's played more like an MVP this year than in 2022 and 2023 despite the dip in PPG.

      I agree. JB took a leap but now JT has taken his. It looks different but possibly more important. JB’s dictating the pace and tone along with opening up the 3pt opportunities by attacking downhill consistently. Now you have Tatum getting rebounds, playmaking, setting screens, assisting, and distributing. Essentially, with JB and JT playing like that D-Dubs, Porzingis and Jrue should go off and average 10-25 a piece per game. If JT and JB are at 25 a piece on average then what they get off the bench just becomes icing on the cake.

    Tatum is averaging 21/10/5 and the Celtics are blowing out teams by an average of ~23pts. He leads the C's in rebounds and assists in the postseason. He also currently leads the playoffs in +/-. If he gets out of this "slump", C's average winning margin would be +30pts. It also helps that Jaylen Brown and Derrick White are shooting the lights out.

    He doesn’t need to be a superstar scorer right now, and i wouldn’t say he’s playing bad at all.
    However, in the NBA finals against any of those 4 teams left in the West, Tatum HAS TO take that next step and be the best guy on the court. That’s what it will take to win the finals, and if he can’t pick up his shooting slack a little bit, it will come back to haunt them.

    Tatum's shooting slump is a big concern for the Celtics. He is and always has been a streaky shooter, and the Celtics will need his scoring punch if they do go forward. If they get to the ECF or the Finals and he's still shooting like THIS, they'll be DOA before either series even begins. However, it seems to me that many people are using the scoring outbursts of Ant and Jalen Brunson to knock Tatum for his lack thereof, even though they have limited scoring options apart from themselves compared to Tatum. Tatum has been impactful in other ways besides scoring and it has benefitted his team, but the main focus is his poor shooting? Again, that is a big concern for the Celtics, especially if Brown and White start to cool off. But for now, Tayum deserves credit for adjusting his game to help the team win, which they have been doing.

    The problem that I am seeing is that people are using his offensive efficiency as a crutch, when the concept of his total game has elevated. Tatum has - alongside his team - ratcheted up his defense and is making better passes overall. That is why he is still a positive plus-minus guy on the court when he was shooting bad this postseason. While I hope he gets his efficiency back I do not think his shooting woes (which are because they are focusing on him defensively) are much of a concern.

  • @masstarvation

    Tatum averaged 31+ ppg and it got them nowhere. Now that he is averaging less points but more assists and rebounds while winning more and playing high-level defense, these casuals still have something bad to say. This is how you know the collective intelligence of the NBA audience has gone down through the years. Stephen A is so in love with PPG, he doesn't realize how Tatum is absorbing double teams and making the right reads for his team. It's easier to cancel out one person who averages 30ppg than 5 people who averages 15 ppg. Look at what they did to Miami's zone. Back in the day, Tatum would have tried to score 30+ and outshoot that zone defense with forced shots. Now he is swinging the ball, increasing his assists and improving the point production of DWhite, Hauser, Pritchard, etc with open shots. He has matured and preferred to win instead of padding stats, Stephen A.

    It’s crazy cause they act like Alexander walker gonna hit 4 3s every game and Naz Reid gonna go off every game that not gonna happen it’s insane how much they focus on 1 player being not so good shooting wise but not focus on other team issue the Timberwolves are a bad matchup for the nugget because of size and length and ultimately they don’t have any other shot creator on the Murray and Jokic. And if Derrick white is playing like the way he is Tatum doesn’t have to be perfect and this is without Porzingis I think they just forget the amount of talent the Celtics have on this team the Timberwolves are also very limited when it comes to scoring outside of KAT, Ant and Naz everyone else isn’t really a scoring like that. They will always point out the Celtics flaws but not anyone else

  • @beerme8949

    The real reason Anthony Edwards and SGA have to drop so many points is they have to to be able to win. Celtics have 3 guys who can drop 30 any night (4 with KP) all can play defense. Thats way Tatum who can impact in other ways btw. Can have 18 points on 40% shooting and his team can still win by 25-30.
    Celtics are damned by public opinion either way right now. "No one wants to play heat"
    They make short work of heat and win by average of 22 points.
    "Well injuries, easy first round"
    Play cavs. Win by 25 game one. "Well cavs are easy too"
    Even if they win the championship this year no matter who they face in finals. It still wont be enough because they didnt have one extra tough round like the team who represents west.

They're double and triple teaming him every time. So Boston is using him to set screens which throws a wrench into what the defense is trying to do. They're blowing teams out...but some how Tatum not scoring 40 is a problem.

    Do you know your history? The Celtics are supposed to be unselfish. They play Celtics basketball. Fast break basketball. Be selfless. Get the ball to the open man. Play Celtics defense. Bill Russell, Bob Cousy, John Havlicek, Larry Bird. We’ve been trying to get Jayson Tatum to see this. He finally is able to trust his teammates to contribute, which allows Jayson to some nights be the second, third or even fourth scorer. Its a blessing to watch this team and how unselfish they are. And you Stephen A. are disappointed in Tatum or want him to score more! He is fantastic at such a young age to know that WINNING is the goal not personal stats. Surely you know Celtics history? If Tatum needs to score 30 he can do it any night he wants. But he is trying to win. And by the way, so isn’t Holiday. Here’s another guy who is sacrificing for the team. Playing lock down defense and not scoring like he is known for. I want that trophy. I want Horford to get his ring. What Tatum is doing is being a TRUE Celtic. He wants a ring and if that means he has to be better on defense and give up shots, he’s going to do it. I’ve seen it all season. I’ve watched him care about his teammates. And I believe its their year to win it all. I’ve watched Tatum and Brown mature and become men. They are all on the same page. It is beautiful to watch. And all that hard work and focus will bring it back to Boston. Title town.

    Seems like there’s been a lot of disrespectful discourse on Tatum bc he shot poorly (7-19, 18pts), but his rebounding, his assists, hockey assists, blocks, and playmaking rn is on a different level rn.
    For those that think that of Tatum, just understand that there’s more than just scoring the ball to impact your team to win. I’d rather have Tatum average a cool 22/11/4 and win by 20+ than to have him average 30+ (on probably bad efficiency) and lose in dramatic fashion.

  • @kennystar9075
    @kennystar9075 11 дней назад

    I'm going to come at it from a completely different perspective; Tatum is shooting poorly and the Celtics are blowing teams out by 25 points per game. I fully expect Derek White to come back to earth as we get deeper into the playoffs, and Tatum to work through those shooting struggles and increase his efficiency. This is bad news for the rest of the league.

  • @jessebalkcom6099
    @jessebalkcom6099 10 дней назад

    If you watched the game you would so very clearly see that Tatum is playing point guard. He was the last starter to attempt a shot for the Celtics. Hes already tried the “let’s score 30 every night” method. It doesn’t win championships. It is rare that a players best statistical season is the one they win a title in. It’s a team sport. Giannis and Jimmy are the only eastern conference players on the same level of playoff success since Tatum came into the league. Giannis 2021 title was his lowest ppg in a season from 2019-present. Jimmy butler gets praised for playing this exact style of basketball, yet the differences in their narratives are ridiculous. Tatum has 4 ecf appearances 1 finals. Jimmy has 2 ecf, 2 finals. Tatum is “playoff choker” and jimmy is “playoff jimmy” when their accomplishments are very similar. Ring culture has warped nba discourse to the point where deep playoff runs are bad for your reputation. If Tatum is a choker, what does that make the players who have never reached that stage? It’s called hating from outside the club it’s embarrassing
