It’s good to see that you’ve got a tool to do the heavy lifting for you. None of us are getting any younger!
After working and developing our property for the first 6 years without a tractor I can say that getting my (40 year old) Massey-Ferguson was a game changer. Before the tractor I had to rent heavy equipment to do the septic system and foundation excavation but did most everything by hand. My tractor has a bucket and a box grader. I wish it had a backhoe attachment but hey, you can't have everything! Nice tractor. It is like having 10 helpers! Have fun.
Tractors are so much fun! But changing PTO implements is a pain. I would just get a freestanding woodchipper, they seem not to be more expensive.
Merci pour la traduction possible en français j ai pus enfin comprendre 😂 et formidable vos constructions

😊😊
@@tzenophile I went with a quick hitch for the 3-pt hitch. Makes changing implements much faster. I have a box blade, wood chipper, rotary cutter, and hay spear. It takes maybe a minute to attach the PTO after picking up the implement. Highly recommended - only downside is often have to get the implements from same vendor to ensure compatibility.
THAT'S HOW YA FLIPPED IT, Thanks for showing Shawn
Please be carefull pushing branches into chipper , you seem to be pushing your hands way down inside of chute . A branch can catch your hand and pull it into blades in the blink of an eye .
Yep, my dad lost a couple fingers that way!
That tractor will save you hours of labor, great job Shawn
Great investment.
Simple Living Alaska also got a tractor last year. It’s a real game changer….
Shawn has already built like what? 4 or 5 log cabins by hand AND had to start all over 4 years ago AND is currently working on not just one but TWO homesteads. Highly doubt that the people complaining have accomplished even half of that. My guy should be able to use a tractor to help speed up some of his builds and do some of the backbreaking labor. I'm glad to see that most of us agree on this. Oh, AND that looks like a lot of fun to drive lol 🚜
We had an old shed that needed to be torn down. My neighbor had a tractor and he and my husband pushed and dragged it down. I bet you could not have seen two grown men have more fun. Tractors are a game changer!
Back in the 80s we took a stump cut and made it into a very large westminister chime pendulum clock that mounted on the wall. It still looks very good to this day.
All the attachments for the tractor is great to see. Makes the impossible into possible.
That's a decent tractor for 20-50 acres hobby farm. With large rear wheels any job on your mostly flat land can be done. Congrats James 👏 👍
I never thought I'd spend 12 minutes contently just watching a guy do yard work, yet here we are.
😂 seriously right!? We love watching too!
Tractors always do one thing really well...make you wish you got one years ago!
Interesting to watch your transition from all hand tool building to sawmills, chainsaws and tractors.
That tractor would have been very handy a couple years ago. Glad to see you have help with the heavy stuff
I thought the same thing. It really would have been handy building the cabin
That tractor is something you should have gotten as soon as you bought your property, it will save years of wear and tear off your body and help speed up some of your projects.
Hi Shawn. Good you got a tractor! I know it will help so much!
Nice tractor, I bought one about nine years ago with a backhoe attachment. It is my most go to implement. Great for ditches, transplanting trees, digging footings and installing French drains. Wouldn’t want to be without it.
Thanks, Shawn. 👍
I forgot about the tractor. Brilliant 👏
See you in the next episode.
I discovered while building my new shop at my Homestead that standing on a 14 foot step ladder when I am over 50 years old is not the safest way to get things done. I purchased a used battery powered scissor lift that has greatly improved the safety and efficiencyof the work that has to be done. No need to risk my health and safety to complete a task when modern technology allows me to do it safely and efficiently. The task is still the same. I’ve just chosen to work smarter than harder.
The end tables and tables that you can make with that beautiful wood. Oh my goodness, the tabletops wow.
I hope you and the family had a very blessed Easter❤ I truly enjoy watching your videos and what your going to do next and yes can’t forget precious Calie!! I can’t wait until spring is here in Ohio done with the winter. Thank you Shawn for sharing this wonderful life with us. God bless until next time❤
Glad you finally got a workhorse to help you. Work horses is what my great uncle used everyday when I was very young. Kit and Kat, a pair of dapple gray draft horses. I never could get over how big those things hooves were. At least you dont have to worry about the shoes coming loose on yours and I have a feeling you'll get more done with the ground. Should make all the people happy who like to see chips made vice ashes. Perhaps someday they'll walk thru a Canadian forest and see all the natural waste laying on the ground. Good for you Shawn! Good for you.
What to say, it started to look like a real estate business. Nice job from nature loving !.
You already know you can do things the hard way if need be. This tractor is going to save you a lot of time and energy that you can invest elsewhere.👏👍😊Take care of it and it will take care of you. After a few weeks of using it, it will feel like an extension of yourself. Those stump slabs make excellent porch tables.😊thanks for sharing Shawn, always enjoy watching your projects.
Best investment you could have ever made. Good for you Shawn .
I need to quit reading the comment section, especially when I first wake up. PEOPLE! Its called MY, as in HIS, self reliance. Not Survival 101. Read the description box. It tells exactly what his motive is. The man has been making videos for years and the thing that keeps people coming back is progress. So what if he has better tools and equipment now! We'll be able to enjoy his progress at a faster pace now.
Agreed. Self reliance does not equal ( cave man). Shawn has done more in his life then I could ever imagine doing. Watching his creations is of my favourite things to look forward too lol.
Right! He's still out in the middle of nowhere doing what we all wish we could do. They weren't hating when he built his first cabin with prefab fence posts.
Some were :)
@@ShawnJames1 Ha! I believe it.
Cali is very perplexed upon the tractor, dad is playing with, 😊😊.
Finish those stump cuttings with resin and put legs under them and you have some pretty nice end-tables.
Even the pioneer homesteaders eventually used machinery to expand their homesteads. Good move on your part.
Shawn, always wear a helmet with a mesh visor or at least protective glasses (best if you combine the two). Chips and pieces of wood will fly out of the chute while feeding the chipper! This can cost you an eye
good choice...I got that same tractor first year on my off grid homestead...makes many jobs possible
want to see what that tractor can do? we have been going HARD on ours for the last 3 years. the ck 3510 is a BEAST, its literally in every one of our youtube videos and has become the most important tool we have.
🌲 GOOD MORNING SHAWN 🐕 I got this feeling its gonna be a really productive week for you ! 💪 🐻 🍁
Loved the pattern on the piece you cutted from the stump. It is a lovely piece to make something from
You will not regret this purchase!
I bought a KIOTI CK2610 2 years ago for logging and milling on my 80acres. It was the best purchase ever, and wish I had done it MANY years ago!
I wondered how you flipped that bench (in the other video!) makes sense lol. looking forward to the future projects.
Was thinking exactly the same, thought he would get out the ratchets again but there’s no trees above that spot anymore 😅 should have realised he still had the truck
Our tractors were our best investment. Total game changer
I bought the same model just over a year ago for working in my forest. If you bought from Beard's you won't be disappointed in their quality of service. After operating bigger machines my whole life, this small wheelbase tractor took some getting used to. I found it always performs better and safer with rear ballast . Either a heavy implement like your chipper or a purpose designed weight around 500 lbs
Wonderful to see some modern "help". Had the pioneers had this equipment, they would have used it. My battery operated chainsaw has been a God-send. Before it was loppers and a bow saw and 5 acres.
I learned young a good tractor, even a basic one, can be a mechanical swiss army knife. Dad has an old, ratty looking, well working 1939 Ford 9N that he uses to do some stuff where a truck won't do.
Good morning And thank you for sharing all that you do. It's so refreshing to see this Now it really is in the world that's going haywire. To see the simplicities of things. God Bless.
I started with a category zero Sears garden tractor, then a small 18 hp diesel. I currently have a 49hp diesel with 6ft equipment. You can little things with little tractors but with a bigger tractor you can do bigger things as well as little things. It’s good to see you got one big enough for your needs.
That tractor certainly is a great addition to the James Homestead James! Kind Thanks and a Wonderful Spring! DaveyJO in Pennsylvania
Forks are great but if you buy a grapple and either have a third function control put on, or run lines all the way to the rear remotes, is a total game changer for tackling brush piles.
Frankly Mr. James, I could never understand why you didn't have a tool like this way back when building your first cabin. Remember you dragging lumber, stone and supplies in that wagon. Nice upgrade.
So glad to see the tractor. Awesome
Well done, you are doing a good job as you are also teaching those who know nothing about what went on all those years ago.
Good for you glad you got a tractor 👍
Good buy with that tractor it'll be a huge help when ya build that workshop ,old fashioned hand tools bring satisfaction and all but no one has forever.
Great addition for you and I'm sure the tractor will help you a lot! One recommendation, consider a small tractor with a heated cabin, it adds a lot to your safety and comfort. E.g. it prevents any logs you lift with the loader to roll back on you and it's very nice to have somewhere warm to sit during a long day working in the forest. Greetings from (cold) Finland.
And a cabin saves you from the mosquitos! :)
Wow never thought I would see Shawn James driving a tractor on his homestead
I just bought a used 26 HP Diesel tractor with a bucket loader and York Rake a couple months back and man what a game changer it has already been ! Especially at 74 and partially disabled I just don't know how I ever got along without it before. A set of forks is on my wish list now sense I heat strictly with wood and have a ton of logs stacked up to be processed from doing some thinning and selective cutting on my land.
Life is good and only getting better @ ,,,the High Mountain Homestead
I am thrilled to see the multi-functional tractor. Hate to see you slaving . Betcha most subscribers feel the same.
Always amazed by what you accomplish, it’s a pleasure to watch you in action
Amazing!
In the 1960's I used a 1949 Allis Chalmers on my late uncle and grandfather's grain farm in Ontario, Canada.
Interesting change from “I want to do everything with hand tools” to this. Don’t mind, however interesting.
Good luck on your new projects.
Hés been using power tools for years. Hiding all traces of tire and track marks on the soil. Hès got money and time.
CONGRATULATIONS Shawn! You and Cali be safe around that thing!😉❤❤👍
Perfect.
Great addition better than a sore back .
The tractor will be a very useful tool. I recently purchased a Kioti tractor also and got a grapple attachment which makes moving logs and brush very easy.
These small Indian made tractors have come on strong these last 10 years or so. They get it done and are a lot less than a John Deere in cost. Work smarter not harder! Great purchase.
KOREA
Wonderful
It's so satisfying to watch the progress.
Excelente e Fascinante Shawn James ❤😊
If you need to bust stumps to make a field and have time, an old technique was to drill holes down the middle and plant pumpkin seeds inside.
SHAWN & OUR CALI !!! You did a Great Job there !!! I know how you think about the motors running in the woods there !!! But there comes a time in every persons life that we have to break on down to use one of those to help out our muscles !!! Tis easier for us all then !!! Praying you & the Misses had a Blessed Easter yesterday !!!
Nice brother, thanks for the video
Wow that multipurpose small tractor comes in handy , but like many other things it needs learning and practicing 🤩🤠
Tennessee is mostly hills and steep mountains. Over the past 7 years my husband has used a tractor that size to level hills to make house pads for building and build roads
Wonderful, longer videos please
That tractor was a big help for you. Gives your back a rest.
Nice tractor great investment Shaun , enjoy your day, be safe
Great tool! 😁👍🏼
Hey Shawn heads Up on your hydraulic system on your tractor, I noticed it was loosen pressure and lowering the fork lift on its own.
Please have your pump checked it shouldn't be doing this and can lead to some more issues if unchecked.
Your lift should never be dropping in a hold position idel .
It should be holding steady & I noticed in this footage it dropped twice and required you to lift it up again..Telling me something is up with either your pump or a pinched hydraulic line or tiny leak in a hydraulic pressure line.
If your machine is new Please have them do a test of the whole system.
I hope this helps friend and God bless you 🙏🏻 Always
Well done Shawn, work smart, not hard.
Food is the key. My parents were farmers in Texas and the family also had ranches so all of their food was fresh, I don't remember my parents ever being sick with anything more than a cold. These things they sell today are way too expensive for most and few really help. Good luck with your diet.
Food first for sure, but it’s so hard for most people to eat a healthy diet when we’re inundated with cheap, unhealthy food and misinformation. Every time I think we’ve found good sources of meat and produce, we find out that it’s not what it was sold as. That’s why we started raising, hunting, fishing and growing our own.
You are fortunate to have the land and made the right moves at the right time. I am retired now and for me, it's the van life as a nomad and I just do the best I can. It's great to meet new people on the road; there are more and more of us here in the USA. Take care. @@ShawnJames1
You probably won’t read this but I will tell you anyway but at exactly 11:57 I noticed that you’re not on the machine and the boom is slowly lowering, it’s slowly coming down, you’re not doing it because you’re on the ground beside it so unless there’s someone on the machine and maybe there is but if it’s lowering by itself you have a problem especially if it’s running. It’s very dangerous and it shouldn’t be doing that. It needs to be replaced, you probably have a leaking valve.
Molto meglio il silenzio o il rumore della classica sega, molto piu rilassante ,ma se serve che ben venga
Thank you , Shawn .
🐺Loupis Canis .
Great 👍
merci JAMES
COOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Do take care. Fl., USA
HELLO JAMES...i can not wait to see what it is in zour had for the next progect,...i let a apeciate like 🥰🥰🥰
Giday Shawn beauty tractor ya probably wish you had have bought it sooner. You get alot work accomplished with it and find great use of those wood chips. Keep the fantastic videos coming bud great job.👍☕️🇨🇦
As an FYI for the type of work you are doing, the best attachment you can get for your tractor is a Farmi or Wallenstein winch to run off the pto. It's the most used attachment on our farm.
Nice work😊
Yes indeed,a tractor is a must for heavy stuff..we had 4 on the farm...get that shop done man,,make it big enough to move around in,,,its nice working in the dry,,on rainy nights..course you have enough work a head...love that wood your cutting,,what is it,,,soft or hard wood,,looks like soft wood..nothing like that around here,,in Wv..but we have a lot of wood...its raining here every day Shawn,i cant start nothing,,i hope it dont rain all April..i have a lot of time to watch your videos.haaa...bring them on man..and be careful..
Maple! He showed it in another video!
Hopefully that speeds up some of the tougher work, or at least reduces your reliance on other people. Good job on flipping that bench over as well!
Put a fami winch on that tractor,, my j Deere bout the same size you’ll love it! Aloha !
Congratulations
Nice 👍🏻🚜✌🏻🦮take care!
Don’t back brag with your bucket tipped down. You can bend the pistons in the rams.
I always recommend a stand alone chipper so as to reduce the wear and tear on the tractor.
Caramba que maquina massa! Gostaria muito de ter uma dessas na minha pequena propriedade, sou rural e vivo de agricultura. Uma excelente forrageira! Aqui é quente e precisamos de cobertura para nosso solo.Parabéns, aquele abraço do Brasil!
As we age we need more conveniences to help us do what we need and want to do… Game changer for sure. Congratulations.. tough decision for sure but necessary
I watched you build the workbench on the other channel earlier this AM and wondered how you were going to shift it. 👍
Génial votre engin, ça vous change la vie.
Quel gain de temps!
