Black Mesa's soundtrack is VASTLY different to HL in general, yet you don't hear as many people bitching about that. People going on about how HLA's soundtrack isn't like the original need a slap to the face.
I do know what people mean though with some tracks like certain tracks definitely sound way more Portaly, and the orchestrated bits especially, like HL had orchestration but I gotta admit as someone who thinks Mike emulated Kelly overall relatively well with his electronic hard rock sound, I will say his orchestral work is basically unchanged from Portal. Like compare Anti-Citizen to the intro of the game, for example. The intro sounds more like it'd be from Portal 3

I love how you can hear the CP Violation motif in this track and a lot of others throughout HL:A. It feels like that's sort of become the core motif to represent the Combine.
I think it's more the motif of first contact with combine. Whether it's your first fight altogether or your first encounter in an hour, it signals the amazing combat to come with the protagonists prevailing through terrible odds in a badass manner.

I was wondering what people were talking about when they were referencing DOOM Eternal. I'm sitting here, playing the game, thinking to myself "this sounds nothing like anything in DOOM". And then I got to Urdak
Think people were just making the references because both games have heavy Industrial music(Doom Eternal's being Industrial Metal, but same difference) for their soundtracks, and both games happen to have amazing soundtracks that make you feel like a badass as well.
Best track in the game. It made that first firefight against the combine epic. Leaning out of cover and shooting a combine soldier in the head and then rushing the last one with the shotgun was so satisfying.

Alyx has some of the best combat I've ever experienced in a game, which I'm not surprised by since it's by Valve, but what does surprise me is this game is still one of the best I've ever played even with running it on a poor old laptop, the optimization is great and Valve did a fantastic job making it so a lot more of us can play than other less optimized VR games
