Kitchen making a petty video to clap back at judgemental “makeup experts” is why I stan their channel so much
It’s even better cause they got a sponsorship from Ester Lauder!
I’m a makeup artist who has worked in cosmetic retail and whenever I’d shade match someone for a foundation I’d ask them which part of their body/face are they trying to match. It’s normal to have several different tones within your skin, If we didn’t we’d have no dimension and look scary…which is also why people bronze, contour, highlight and use blush, it’s all to bring the dimension back after making the face all one shade.
Also a decent amount of foundations oxidize so they will dry down deeper/more orange toned which makes things way more difficult. Get samples before buying if you can.
The reason lots of people have bad luck when getting shade matched in store is because the lighting in all cosmetics stores sucks so bad. I’d tell people to leave the store with a hand held mirror because it was that bad. Even more reason to get a sample
Venessa what foundations do you live for full coverage?
@@micalaney4837 I have combination skin and some rosacea on my cheeks so what I use may or may not work for your skin type, also your primer will have an effect on how it sits on your skin; but I really enjoy the pür 4-1 love your selfie foundation/concealer. The formula is great and they have a very large shade range. Another one that works for me is the bare minerals barepro foundation; both of those are matte finishes. I do also have the Armani luminous silk foundation that I can build up to full coverage and that is more of a dewy look. Some drug store ones I like is the profusion feel good long wear skin perfector (their shade range sucks tho and it’s harder to find it stores) which is like a your skin but better type of finish and is medium to full coverage on me. I also like the L’Oréal true match which is buildable as well and is more on the dewy side in my opinion. I also like the colourpop pretty fresh foundation, it does oxidize though so heads up
If you want more coverage on any foundation you can always use a very dense foundation brush or a dry sponge, the real technique sponge is both a wet and dry sponge so I’d recommend that one. That does help with getting more coverage out of a foundation because the products aren’t going to seep through the brush/sponge as much.
I hope this helped a bit!
Wear ✍🏾 Sunscreen✍🏾 Also love that you’re doing Expensive AND Affordable versions of this
Wear sunscreen!!!!!
Oh cool! At first I thought, "Drugstore would be cool." but then thought "Drugstore has to be 1000 times harder" (because I have similar skin and still haven't found the right drugstore :D... even though I won't spend for high-end).
@@kitchenandjorn yeassss!!! I am 31 and just had skin cancer Removed! Sunscreen is a must!!
Jen saying “okay let’s cut to the chase” and trying on the foundation had me weak 😂😂 I love y’all ❤️❤️
The Urban Decay looked a little washed out, but gave you a nice glow, and definitely some color correction. I think with bronzer and blush it would look super!
My thoughts exactly!
exactly, I was thinking the same thing, no one just uses foundation only. That makes your face a blank slate and then you build back in definition with contour and blush
Yeah, & I think sometimes green colour correctors can wash you out.
Damn. So many of us think the same way. Pale does not equal washed out.
I liked that one. I think all foundation will wash someone out at first but you need to add bronzer/contour and blush.
I so understand this struggle. People really love to point out something you’re doing wrong when they truly have no idea how much money and time goes into finding the correct shade. It’s wild because a lot of the ones that were too yellow looked great face-forward and very neutralizing, but always snitched on you at your jawline. It’s brutal out here 😔
Its also so hard finding a shade in stores because of the lighting.
@@annnnjell seriously they always have weird lighting. I was matched to the lightest shade of the double wear foundation at ulta. When I got home and tried it, it was too dark and too on the yellow side. Yet it looked perfect in the store. And estee lauder is expensive
Truly. I have found the correct shade only twice ever (and I'm white so I actually have options) and both formulations were garbage
It’s such a struggle!!
I just wanted to get on here and say that I’ve finally found the perfect foundation. The Ilmakiage foundation. I’m not sure if you guys have seen it everywhere too. I was curious. Did the color match online, spent $5 for a full size bottle to be sent to me. You get to try it for two weeks, and if you don’t like it, you get to send it back no charge. If you like it, they charge you the full amount after the two weeks. It’s like $45. BUT YALL. I’ve struggled to find a shade pale enough for me. Everything I’ve tried ends up being too heavy and on the yellow side. This literally blended into my skin. I asked my mom if she could tell I was wearing any, and she had no idea. 10/10 would recommend you guys
As someone who can't afford any of these brands, I would definitely love to see the cheaper version of this video! This was super fun to watch and the Estée Lauder looks really good!
YES, drugstore version please!!!!!
I think a good one would be the Ordinary's serum foundation. I have that one and I think it's kind of similar?
It was me that suggested Dawn, I'm so glad that by serendipity you picked a different shade! Looks great on you. It is runny as crap and you can get a pump to put in the top of it to make it easier to use xxx
I love the original double wear, I couldn't get the sheer to work for me because of the runniness, so Kristin if you love the shade match it could be worth trying the original formula as well! Great recommendation! It looked very natural. But here for any more tips you have for the runniness!
Why have I never seen the pump?! I need one!
@@sarahrieger1572 if you're in the UK they sell them in boots and ASOS xx
that foundation is just iconic, i've worn it and my mother wore it for decades. it looks so classy on and i love the bottle
Except she had the sheer version not the original 💜 I wish she had tried the original but not knowing her skin type.. sheer does wear so pretty on normal/dry skin. Also, love that you’re out here like yes, there’s a pump ☺️ I couldn’t go without mine!
WHICH FOUNDATION IS THE WINNER? It's like highlander, there can only be one. EDIT: thanks for being patient with the fact that stuff looks so different on camera than in person!
Yesssss there can be only one! ⚡️⚡️🗡⚔️
I wish you had used the standard "really great, pretty good, just ok, penalty box bad" rating system for this because it would have been funny
WOOHOO Estee lauder double wear in Dawn is my brand and color lol Now you gotta try dawn.
I would’ve gone for the Georgio Armani one for you I think! It seemed to me that it only seemed washed out since there was foundation covering your eyebrows and lips, which will wash out just about anyone! Could be the way it picked up on camera tho!
& Estee Lauder double wear was a fav of mine for a few months, so I know it’s a great brand too 😁😁
I used Estee lauder double wear until I moved onto Elizabeth Arden! I find Elizabeth Arden is more of a natural skin finish
me: oh that foundation looks nice of them!
kristin: this one is too [insert critique]
me, who doesn't wear makeup: shows what i know 😅
Geez - hard enough finding good foundation in every day world. I can't imagine having to make it look good on camera too! The advantage to being retired is I no longer have to go on those stupid ZOOM calls.
I have never felt more like a troll than on Zoom calls
I also have a very red face and I recently got to a place where I don't let other people make me feel shameful for having acne and redness. I never had the money to experiment much with makeup so I still use the same face products as when I first started wearing makeup as a young teen. My experimentation was with eyeshadow and doing fun colors or shapes. The fact that I can watch this without triggering that annoying voice in my head that lies to me about my redness and acne being important, I think, shows growth.
Proud of you!!!
Fun colors/shapes is definitely the more, well... *fun* part of it. I wish I still had the energy and occasion to paint up some fun on the old face!
@@eddisianc8639 thank you
Same here! My redness and acne has got better over time. I have a love hate relationship with my acne but I do love myself more than I use to.
As a 48 year old who has struggled with acne since 12, this hits hard. I used to go camping with friends and wear a full face of makeup every day. So, I'm so happy for you!
I’m just watching the first few foundation and I’m wondering if the foundation only looked washed out without some blush/bronzer to build up some more depth tone to your face? 💕💕 love that you’re having fun with your makeup.
I thought the same thing. If I’m just wearing foundation my face looks flat and a little washed out, but once I put on some other stuff it works well.
I had the same thought! I though the first foundation was a great color match. It just needs some blush, bronzer, and/or contour to finish it off.
Same
i just commented something similar before seeing this! this is what i was thinking, I always match foundation to the lightest part of my face and then 'add colour' with bronzer/blush where needed
Yeah. They match.
If you do a drugstore version of this video, I highly suggest ELF in the shade snow. From what I can tell our skintones are quite similar and that one has been my go to lately. It's cheap, it's decent quality, and it's the only foundation I've ever found that actually matches my skin.
The Urban Decay was amazing actually. Some bronzer and blush would have tied it all together!!
The only suggestion I have is that some foundations tend to change colour when set with powder so something that may be a little washed out could actually warm with a loose powder. Maybe not a banana powder though.
I don’t know how… but the makeup try-on or cute clothes styling and Jen’s knife hauls is right in my entertainment sweet spot? Keep doing you and sassing the internet right back.
Jen's knife haul was such a great video 🤣 so you're not alone with your sweet spot
in my opinion the clinique matched you the best. i wanna recommend to you the missha bb cream in shade 21. It’s a true neutral. It might actually look gray when you first apply but PLS if you let it sit for a few minutes on your skin it will adapt! I also have a very red face and have that problem where all foundation looks yellow on me. the missha bb cream is $12 on amazon and even though it’s a bb cream it has medium coverage so i love it. and yes everyone, wear sunscreen!!
seconding this! i’m also red but it neutralized the redness and feels great on my skin. i also like the cheap missha cushion that’s like $10
Yes to Missha Perfect Cover. I’m super pale and use shade 13 so I don’t know about the other shades, but I know at least Jessica Braun likes it and uses 21 or 23. I also think Robert Welsh might have tried it and thought it was pretty good.
@@erinkeister1423 jessica braun is how i discovered it! she wears shade 21 and i’m pretty much her skin tone so it worked out perfectly for me
Finding the correct shade of foundation for some of us in various shades of Mahogany is a tough task. I’m happy to see this Beauty Experiment tho 👏🏽
I literally have a Google spreadsheet to keep track of what foundation and concealer I own. I have no idea what my color is either. I tend to be too pale for the palest or the palest makes me look grey. FOUNDATION, ONLY MATCHES JEN.
PS Totally got the Aura sampler pack because HELL YEAH SUPPORTING FOR BUBBLES
Oh please please please do a red or bold colours lipstick version of this. That would be amazing on both you and Jen 🥳
Yes! Lipsticks would be so fun!
As someone that also has different shades going on across my face/body, I always match to my chest. I'm incredibly pale an ld neutral to the point of gray so any foundation washes me out but it's just something to accept.
Barely started the video, but want to thank you for reminding us if I’ve had a thought about someone, in this case their makeup, that someone has, too. We always think we somehow know more/better. 🧡
i feel like kristen might have better luck at the drugstore because i feel like drugstore foundations run more pink in undertones and high end ones tend to run more yellow! ♥️ love u guys
This was really fun to watch! And WOW I didn’t realize how different the foundations could show in-person vs on-camera. Learned something new!
I think foundation matching is soooo hard for all of us! Besides the color correcting primer, there’s red, blue, white, and yellow pigments that you can mix into your foundations by LA Girl if you like the consistency or coverage of a foundation that isn’t the right shade!
I would love more of this cause Kristin and I are very similar skin tones with very dismal skin concerns. So this is a perfect way for me to pick a foundation!
actually early for once! i don't use makeup but i'm excited to watch for the banter :]
I found this so interesting because I thought the Clinique one look the best from the photo and video, but I also find it fascinating that makeup can look so different in person vs in videos/photos. Thanks for a great video, learned a lot!
I love you both. Your makeup always look good to me! Great video! Thanks for all the work you do to continuing to entertain us.
Such a great video! I'm just resuming my make-up routine and skills, and this came at a perfect time! Can't wait for the drugstore round!
This was way more interesting than I was expecting! And thank you both for just putting a smile on my face.
I'm so glad I found your channel. I've bee binging through videos and they're all so good.
i love your hair, makeup, clothing, and travel videos!
Loved this video and as someone who doesn’t like spending a lot of money on makeup I’m exited to see what’s in store for the cheaper foundations. You can also always mix foundation shades to match your different skin tones.
I've literally watched all of your guys videos and they are so amazing keep up the great work ❤
I love what you are wearing in this video kitchen. It is so cute and that burnt orange color is perfection on you. You two wonderful people bring me such joy!
I know its a different genre but I feel like you guys would get along really well with the Wine and Crime gals, same chaotic good energy
I love that you made this video. It is a good example to show that finding a foundation that matches is not easy for literally anyone, even if you do have the money to afford high end makeup.
Thanks for sharing. Love you two. Love to see drugstore foundations video. Blessings to you both.
7:59 it’s so weird because on camera I thought this fit your skin so well! But I trust that you know what looks best in person ☺️
I would love to see you guys try color matching! I’ve seen it on TT a lot lately where people get their colors professionally chosen and it helps you determine which makeup undertones and clothing you should aim for (to best complement your skin tone)
I want to see kitchen and jorn try some Korean foundations. They’re game-changers, and a lot of them are affordable.
Love you guys! Thank you for bringing me joy
Loved this video, I am in the same boat exactly! Foundation matching is so hard. One I found recently that I love is maybelline fit me, in buff beige as I'm quite red toned also. But I think you may even need to look in to ivory tones. Also I have found it may sound silly but applying foundation with my fingers gives the best finish, beauty blender just soaks up make up and a brush leaves you with brush strokes. Good luck on your foundation journey, I appreciate the pain x
The double wear looks amazing 😍 perfect shade!
The Estee Lauder: Double Wear Foundation is AMAZING!!!! so glad it worked for you!!
Great video! I really enjoyed the concept and hope there is another one.
Yes to a drugstore version! So glad you found a shade you liked, Kitchen 🥰
This is everything I didn’t know I wanted in a video. I’m always so anxious to try different make up brands outside of my usual routine because there’s always a chance the product will irritate my skin, be the wrong shade, etc. And I’m always SO damn curious about the more expensive/ luxury brands and how they compare. Any way, this is so so fun! ❤️
It’s crazy how smooth it looks in video and how shear it looks in the photos
It looks amazing
loved this vid! v keen for a drugstore one too
I love the energy between you too!
Trying the sampler,thank you!
Love your foundation choice! Beautiful!
I'm excited to see the drugstore version!! I'd like to suggest making sure the foundation and primer have the same base ingredient. Like if a primer is water based and a foundation is silicone based, it'll pill up and look patchy because silicone and water don't mix ❤️❤️
Love this video!! I have worn Estée Lauder Double Wear in Sand for many years and it’s the best at that price point imho!! Love you both ❌⭕️❌
Love love this funny both ❤ sending love from PR make my day ur videos
I think the Estée and Armani looked fantastic on you (on camera!). If you need a good concealer the Double Wear concealer is amazing.
I see my favorite foundation on the table and I am ready to cheer it on
I use the urban decay one and I mixed 20 and 30 together and it's perfect! Paired with the nars concealer for trouble spots and it's natural but done.
Done! Ordered my free sampler. Excited to try them!
For the drugstore makeup (hoping we get one!) you might want to try NYX's foundation mixer. I run very pale and pink so mixing that with some of their drop foundation has worked for me. Could also be used to make some of your fancier ones match better!
You should definitely do a drugstore version!!
And cruelty free too! That's super important to me
ELF BB cream is my jam! Cheap, vegan cruelty-free AND spf!!
What if after the high end and the drug store foundation test, you then hire a makeup artist for the video and see what they pick?
Sounds like fun! I could live vicariously through them. Love it ♥️
I would absolutely watch that!!
I’ve used sooooo many of these because my skin texture repels all foundations. Still looking for “the one”
Kristin’s look for the Aura Bora promo is so joyful and uplifting. Made me smile just seeing it!
Im always struggled to find a foundation, I also know barely anything about makeup. Excited to see what might work especially the cheaper ones :)
Very fun! I never understood foundation, but I'm not into makeup so that tracks. Super entertaining to watch though ☺️
Glad you found a foundation! Sad I missed the boat to recommend It cosmetics full coverage moisturizer in light
I LOVE the Estée Lauder! I’ve been wearing it for a couple years and haven’t found anything that compares.
My favorite foundation of all time is the hint hint skin tint by morphe 2!!! I usually do not feel super passionate about makeup products but this one is worth the hype
I 100% understand your struggle! I suggest trying the double wear (classic) using a damp beauty blender. That helps sheer it out and gets a nice medium coverage. I also love the Dior Backstage face and body for My every day foundation.
For the budget foundation I found one of my fav ones (which works in a similar way on my skin to tarte rain forest of the sea) is the serum foundation by the ordinary. I use 1.1N which might be an ok shade for Kristin as I have a lot of redness too. I use it with the ordinary concealer.
This video is really throwing me for a loop! The still photos of the UD thru GA foundations looked more sheer, but the live cameras were always more full coverage - then especially the Clinique foundation looked more full coverage, even though we were all present for how well it matched Jen's skintone, but it also seemed to work for Kristen, at least after coming through the RUclips-o-vision 😲
I’m watching this video while getting ready to do a geology assignment outside. Thanks for the sunscreen reminder kitchen!!!
I love getting notifications for these videos
I agree with your choice and runny saves money 😆 A little goes further. Plus if your skin feels good you have a better experience wearing it.
I love your natural curls, very pretty
Just alittle side note for the Estée Lauder one...I think it’s the original one that you used. They sell a pump for that foundation. Hopefully that helps since you wouldn’t have to pour it out❤️
EL Double Wear is bomb. I always find myself going back to it no matter how many foundations I keep buying!
Honestly, the only foundation I found that is anywhere near my natural skin tone is the Perfect Match in the cool/pinky tones.
Also, the primer you used would work as a foundation! It looks stunning on its own!
I love this petty video! ❤️
Yay make up videos! Kitchen please share your collection of lipsticks I have a feeling you are a fellow red lipstick lover x x x
I really enjoyed seeing the different ones one you. I struggle with some of the same issues. I really want to see how a professional Makeup artist would do your foundation.
I can totally relate to this. I have stained scars left from past acne and there really isn’t one perfect shade to cover both those scars and the unscarred areas.
You ladies look gorgeous no matter what you wear or whether you wear makeup or not! I feel ya Kristen - I have many tones of skin and like you I lived less than responsibly for years in FL and have the skin to show it. I recently had a derm suggest trying colorescience face shield flex spf 50 - tinted sunscreen. the color 'flexes' to match your natural hues. I bought two shades and a combo of both does a great job of evening out my 'terrain' but still looking natural. The product starts out opaque white and turns color as you rub it on your face (microsphere technology or some other whackadoodledo cool sciency stuff). The more you massage it in, the darker it gets (up to the shade limits). Your experience seems so similar to mine (foundations look too yellow or wash me out) so I figured what the heck, can't hurt to throw it out there. Plus - this stuff is SPF so now I feel like I'm properly adulting - I dont' need primer, and its way cheaper than expensive foundations.
Loved this.
fellow Fenty 185 here, i too feel like it's too light and have tried to find a new shade but it's been a struggleee 😭 loved this video!!
Kristin your hair is sooooo cute here. Curl goals
More of this content please! ♥️
It's about time you upload a other video I'm over here waiting huge fan
Dr. Jart! It’s a great color corrector and sunscreen. I wear it as a foundation as it turn to a beige color after drying.
i’d love to see a video of you guys putting makeup on each other!! :)
God, I remember being completely overwhelmed trying to find the best foundation for my skin back when I was still wearing makeup, so I can only imagine what a nightmare it's been for Kristin (especially if they've had to deal with a bunch of unnecessary/unwanted opinions about it) 😬 happy you found one that you liked!
Loved this and I’d love to see a drug store version. I recommend the L’Oreal Infallible line. I suck at shade matching though. So I’m no help there.
In the pictures the Clinique and Beauty Blender ones were super good! Full coverage yeah, and if that's not your vibe I get it, but it looked great.
I thought the Estee Lauder was the best as well.
I'm different colors all over too, I think it's a pretty common problem. You kind of have to decide if your going to match your face or neck or chest. Do not choose your face if it's darker than your neck or you will get the dreaded line. Match your neck and then use blush/bronzer to warm up your face. **
**All just my opinion of course! You do what makes you happy!
It was so fun to watch! Please, do a drugstore version
