I'd never thought about it like that, but it makes SO MUCH SENSE. So much of that in the fashion that we see, and the way fat bodies are presented in media! Seriously insightful.
As a fat woman who has absolutely had to navigate the femininity presentation and knows VERY well that you can only have “one thing wrong” I LOVE THIS INTRO SO MUCH AND ITS SO TRUE.

I’ve actually just been figuring this out in therapy this year….I didn’t realize how much I relied on my ability to “perform” in different aspects of life to prove that it’s okay that I exist in this body. And people who have never been fat may never be able to understand that, so it feels lonely.
So so much. I didn't figure out I was nonbinary because performing feminity so hard you mask it yourself

Kristin once used the phrase "Full Fem Regalia" to describe how they feel they need to dress on camera and I haven't stopped thinking about it. I hear that phrase every time I get ready because it is a real thing.
The embroidered short sleeve in the first outfit looked great on kristen! I don't think the clothing items really go together at all haha, but jen clearly tried really hard and the support is what matters!
Agreed- the weezer shirt under just felt a little busy for me, but that embroidered shirt looked gorgeous on Kristin! She definitely rocked it!

This was actually hugely gender affirming for me as a fat queer person because I'm always trying to dress more masc but have trouble thanks to TITS. So it's nice to see Kristen dressing in clothes that I myself own and wear and see how wonderfully queer and masc she looks in them.
I was trying to do too much but I've just now decided that what I have now does make me masc enough. If it's good enough for Kristen it's good enough for me! 💜
FYI, as a fellow plus size (smaller end, but still plus) queer femme with HUGE BOOBS, masc styling over boobs is *very hot* so please feel free to experiment with your fashion! Don't let the boobs restrict your self expression!
Dx Being a plus sized trans-masc and genderqueer person I totally understand that. It's hard finding good masc things that will add to the masc shape but fit around the extra baggage around the hips n chest. It irks me to no end. Kristen looks so cute in all of those outfits though.
I loved the collaboration in choosing outfits. The communiction between Kristin and Jen to discuss the outfits and how to edit them to make Kristin feel more comfortable -- it just makes me happy to see you two have fun and doing stuff while also respecting each others' boundaries
Could we please repeat this in winter? I love seeing Kristin edit the outfits to be a little more aesthetic AND i want to see them looking dapper in a suit or some chinos!

I love that Jen has become this German Shepherd trope and is fiercely loyal to their friends and things that they are passionate about.
I personally struggle a lot with modest clothing being inherently perceived as more masculine since I cover my body but don’t identify myself as masculine at all. Can you do a segment on modest feminine styling-like maybe you can bring in a Muslim woman or likewise for advice? 🙏🏻 Like…how can you dress modestly and look feminine but not like a fuddy duddy?
That's actually the thing that is so hard to balance, especially with more weight.

I grew up in Christian modesty culture, and it’s definitely hard to find the right balance between feminine and “modest enough”. It was especially difficult for me as a teenager when my breasts started growing bigger. I ended up with a bust size that refuses to be hidden.
I attend a church now that has a very “don’t overthink it” approach to modesty, so I’m not really making much effort to deliberately dress modest. I still mostly wear things that keep me covered though, as it is sign of dignity and self respect to cover myself.
That's the thing. I didn't see any of this as masculine. It's not as flashy fem but it still was more "dressy" than what I wear, which is mainly jeans and tshirts. (Note: 55 straight F)
I am so with Kristin's edits here - I liked everything but also like when she shows more of her shape and has slightly diff color stories than the original outfits - I liked seeing what Jorn would style her in
Kristin having *notes* for every outfit is so relatable. Having both someone smaller, and someone less concerned with fashion putting together an outfit really revealed to me how much i care about being fashionable, even though i do try to stay very comfortable
I don’t ever look at Kristen’s body necessarily, I love the fact that she is a girlie girl. I love her outfits,I love how radiant she is,I love how confident she is. Kristen is beautiful in whatever she wears ❤.

I super relate to "when you're fat you're only allowed to have one thing wrong and that's being fat", one of the reasons I've been so afraid to change my gender expression is because of my weight. I'm sure the key is to not see these things as "wrong" or being a problem and I know that on an intellectual level but emotionally it's a lot harder, ya know?
Also this video was really inspiring, thank you. I love when you guys do gender focused videos, it's been a really big help to me personally.

I love how you could HEAR the love hearts in Jen's voice for every time Kristin came out in the outfit. It's SO NICE seeing their friendship! Jen is 100% the platonic third in a polycule.

ETA: loved this a lot!! i liked how kristin edited the outfits to feel more comfortable in them & have their own touch in there :) she looked great in pretty much everything -- altho my fave part was how her facial expressions kept giving them away ☠ the jen version of the swim trunks outfit, kristin wore a face much like a child who no longer enjoyed playing dressup with aunty. it was so funny!!

Jen did so great! I can absolutely see Jen's style shine through these outfits, and I would wear them. As a bigger person who also struggles to dress masc, seeing Kristen do this was exciting! I would love to see someone plus size do this same challenge for dressing Kristin, because I feel like dressing plus size is a whole other ballgame.

Kristen your style was the BLUEPRINT for me from like 2016-18, I was 100% a ModCloth girlie and loved your high femme style and never wore pants and had the same hang ups about being fat and having to perform femininity.
But then I met my wife and embraced my queerness and realized I didn’t need to be femme, and it has been so freeing for me. If this challenge resonated with you I hope you can continue to experiment with style and presentation and leave the high expectations for yourself behind 💗💗💗💗

i love this i didn’t even realize i felt the same, i am recovering from disordered eating and i’m short so my weight goes up and down, when it’s up i 100% dress more fem and feel like it makes me look better but when it goes down i feel i look more attractive in masc closes thanks for discussing this topic

I've heard that in order to reach into a fashion you don't normally do, try changing just one piece into that style so you stay comfortable and authentic to your old identity (assuming that it's something you want to do). I deeply want to dress masc but I relate to feeling like I can’t or being scared to do it because I’m already being criticized/judged for being fat/plus sized. i loved this! i will say that i'd really reallyyy love a part two where kristin is able to choose masc fits that showcase their own evolving personal style. this is helpful especially as summer rolls around and many of us (me!!) are trying to figure out a masc style that isn't just button ups and cargo pants.

It has been a hurdle getting past my internalized body image triggers in order to lean into my inherent inner vacation dad style, but I’m so glad I did!
