Saw this at a theater when I was all of 14. I could barely make it up the aisle for the tears. Damn you, Terry Kath...To this day, it still has that effect on me. And it pisses me off when people ask "Isn't that Ray Charles?" WOW. That many people who don't know a thing about music, or music history.
i saw the movie when it was released and sat mesmerised through the credits. Over 40 years later it stirs such emotions...." to try and make this world a better place for me and you". Powerful. "its not too late"
I'm just another Chicago fan of the time when Terry Kath was the soul of the band, great guitarist and vocalist. They were great and then Terry Kath tragically died. What a loss. I still listen to their records of that time and enjoy every minute.
If there ever will be a chance to state one's unsung hero/heroes in the music industry - Terry Kath will always be first on my list. Gone way too soon. Terry - missing you since Jan 1978. One of a kind.

Goddammit Terry, wait a minute! You changed the world with the lead to 25 to 64...and make me smile. But now hearing you sing "God Bless America" on the Tell Me...Honestly, this Combat Pilot cried like a baby...God Bless your memory...T6 "American" Pilot
Hey, this was the LAST song on the last episode of Miami Vice. I have always loved the music and the movie. But this song always made me cry, it reminded me of my Dad. Watching him walk into the sunset. RIP Pop. 1973 ❤
Terry Kath, still learning what a huge impact he had in this world. Grateful for Michelle Kath Sinclair's documentary about her father The Terry Kath Experience. Thank you Terry Kath. Your music will live on forever 🎶🤘👍
I remember the first time I heard this track, my best friend and I crying like babies as we stared with disbelief at Robert Blake's character, sitting dead in the middle of a majestic desert landscape. That impression will never leave me until the day I die. What a hell of a vocalist Terry Kath was...
Survivor2002 Amazing part it was Terry who shot him dead. Jimmy Guericio was one of the producers and pretty much the whole score was tracked by members of Chicago. Most of band nembers make cameos in film.
Survivor2002 Ikr....I felt the EXACT SAME way... I was totally unprepared for THAT ending !! THIS song was PERFECT for it !! Gut wrenching scene... GUT wrenching song !!😢😢
I love early 70's American cinema and Electra Glide must be one of my favourites... The ending is sad, but cause it was filmed in Monument Valley, it has to have some Western 'deeper meaning'.. And in Westerns the hero very often walks away from the camera... Not here, this is a anti-Western context.. So Robert Blake gets shot.. and the camera pulls back, as to repeat the old wild west hero tradition, but in reverse... Just genious thinking on the part of the director...
Scott: We all miss Terry, especially those of us that revered his playing. As a guitarist, he was quite inspirational to many, and the flag is at half mast, forever, in his memory.
Terry..I am so thankful that I can hear your voice so many years after you passed on. This song still makes me cry and smile at the same time. Only you can make me feel this way.
We were blessed to have had someone so abundantly gifted share his talents with us. My heart will forever be broken because we lost him so young. Terry, I know you are up there singing and playing up a storm! Rock on, dear brother! 🎸 🎶 💔 🇺🇸
Gran tema. Yo vi el film a los 20 años, me encantaba. Lo vi tres veces en el cine, y su cancion era tan logica para el final, su letra. Grande Terry Kath.
I agree with "William S", "Sonny Crockett", and many others... It was written by Jim Guercio (Chicago's Producer thru '77)... among other things, Jim was also a songwriter... If he reads this, I'd like to say Thank You for this song... It's a rare beautiful song and somewhat a fitting anthem to America... and maybe Terry Kath as well... for me, I believe this is a perfect song for Terry Kath... just about written for him to sing... This song always wrecks my heart, Sometimes makes me cry... I wonder if it was Jim's intention for Terry to sing it.... or maybe a better word might be, "inspiration" ... "God Bless America"... and Jim Guercio... and Terry Kath, RiP... I think I speak for others here when I say,... we miss you... we miss you.....
I love this song it was so fitting for the end theme and so powerful, everytime I hear it it brings tears to my eyes!!! This song is great!!!11 I love it!!! I also think about Terry when I hear it and cry because we lost a great talented Brother to soon!!! R.I.P. Terry!!!😔😔😥😢😭
It's so hard to watch the 1970s clip of Ballet for a Girl from Buchannon at the Fillmore and not miss Terry Kath. I truly appreciate Terry as the ultimate musician, a great front man, and the driving energy and force behind Chicago. May God Bless Your Soul!
I saw Chicago in '71 in Adelaide, South Australia. At now 74 years old that concert & watching Terry play is still emblazoned in my mind. My son & daughter now in their 40's are green with envy!
Kath's voice takes my breath away. This is a little glimpse of what Terry would have done doing different non Chicago songs. We lost a great one. RIP Terry, we miss you dearly
I got to see Terry and the band 8 times. He was the best guitarist I ever saw and heard. When he passed, it was obvious how the whole dynamic of the band changed. He was and is sorely missed.
I think this song should be our new Anthem! It's perfect, and is so powerful and spot on for th😅s time on 😅ur earth? If anyone agrees pass it on? Thank Beautiful Terry Kath from the band Chicago. YourLyrics are heart felt and when I listen my heart spills over into tears!❤❤❤❤❤
Do this.........put away all speakers 3 mm across.....close the doors all over the house...sit down.. grab your major headphones.....volume 11....sit back and listen to one of the great film-ending anthems of all time; wonderful singing by Kath with just the best backing you've ever heard. Not convinced?....don't worry; one day you will be.
I'm in the UK.....but I've listened to this Kath song since Electra Glide In Blues came out.....that last scene, never emulated, sticks in the mind, summing up the whole film really....one of the great film endings, which should be watched repeatedly.....I think I know every word!
Beautiful. An anthem like quality. Soaring vocals. Beautiful voice that feels like trudging, then cascades and elevates to a new level, as if suddenly in new territory as a soft felt hat falls to the floor. Jaw dropping as America is as expansive as it is Beautiful. God bless!
I heard this at the end of the movie 'Electra Glide in Blue' in the 80's television... I think this song is cult classic of some sorts.. God bless America today.
Guess it didn't get much airplay on major stations at the time. Wich is too bad since Chicago was in its heyday and Kath did do a lot of lead singing back then.
Hearing this again sent me back in time to a theater in Las Vegas when I was a 18 year old kid. Standing at the exit curtain listening to this moving, soul stirring song as my friends screamed at me to "come on" They all laughed at me when they saw tears in my eyes. I guess they would be laughing now because the tears are flowing again. R.I.P T.K. Oh yeah....amazing photo journal scwells64
I can’t even keep track how many times I’ve watched this video. I watched Chicago play in the attic in Chicago before record came to be.☮️ Rest in peace TERRY 💔🎶
Thanks for sharing this beautiful song & your photos are beautiful too!! I grew up in Chicago and Terry Kath should never be forgotten.... he was a wonderful, pretty much self taught musician and his awesome voice was... I believe the heart & soul of Chicago. RIP Terry.
Terry your soul was so visible in your guitar playing and never more vocal than in this beautiful song. You are so very missed. One day...we will all be together again! RIP
for some of us - this means a great deal inside our souls & spirits, 1973 when the world was inside out, and a few visions became real enough to share with the rest of the human race, live on Terry, we will be together again in a great day-to come-
From the soundtrack of "Electraglide in Blue", music by James William Guerico, directed also by James William Guerico and starring Peter Blake. Beautiful song performed with heart and soul by the late Terry Kath.
I remember, I sat in the movie theatre and listened to the last note of this great song Not only a very special film, but a fantastic end. Thank you for sharing.
I didn't expect to leave ELECTRA GLIDE IN BLUE in tears...then THIS song came on over the opening credits. And over the years, friends swore up and down that Ray Charles sang this song...but being a Chicago fan, I knew better. We know what Terry Kath was capable of...and wish we'd had him a bit longer, to create more amazing songs like this.

Had he lived, he could have done a masterpiece solo album of Ray Charles' standards, and sold platinum. I can see him doing a cover of Leon Russell's 'A Song For You'. Would have been platinum. Has a voice that can only be described as "Hot Buttered Soul".
I first heard this at the end of Miami Vice and loved it ever since. To me, as a nullifidian, the song is about remembering that we should try to mend the wrongs in the US but we should remember that the US is a power for good in the world, and that there is a genuine beauty in the people and country.

Saw "Electra Glide in Blue" two days ago. My cable station has now added nostalgic television shows and movies from the 50's to 70's to it's channels. The ending of this movie really had an impact on me. "Easy Rider" had the same effect.
Thanks for putting that together. It means alot to me ... someone who grew up with Chicago plugged into my ear the first year FM radio can to my house from age 11.... and really missing Terry Kath ... God Bless America
So talented - one of the best guitarists that ever lived, with a voice of pure soul. So awful that he went the way he did - such a waste. Clearly, he was the leader of Chicago. Still listen to his stuff every day. A genius in common man's clothing.
God bless America.
Truly relevant in today's divided world.
Saw this at a theater when I was all of 14. I could barely make it up the aisle for the tears. Damn you, Terry Kath...To this day, it still has that effect on me. I never thought of that, that he sounds like Ray Charles, but he does!
I'm just another Chicago fan of the time when Terry Kath was the soul of the band, great guitarist and vocalist. They were great and then Terry Kath tragically died. What a loss. I still listen to their records of that time and enjoy every minute.
Electra Glide in Blue brought me here. And you can take that to the bank.
This man was the most underrated guitarist of the 70's, and had the most soulful voice
POSSIBLY ONE OF THE GREATEST SONGS WRITTEN.
If there ever will be a chance to state one's unsung hero/heroes in the music industry - Terry Kath will always be first on my list. Gone way too soon. Terry - missing you since Jan 1978. One of a kind.

The band was never the same without Terry. He was the heart and soul of Chicago.
The last song ever played on Miami Vice. Perfect song for a perfect ending to a perfect show.
miami vice was a piece of shit
Afi James
thank you for speaking up
Episode "Freefall", during the montage of past episodes.
Very very true,Miami vice was just perfect 👌🏻
Just found this. Miami vice was as special as it gets!

Terry was vehemently antiwar
Hey, this was the LAST song on the last episode of Miami Vice. I have always loved the music and the movie.
But this song always made me cry, it reminded me of my Dad. Watching him walk into the sunset. RIP Pop. 1973 ❤

I'm 45 sharing your cousin's work with my 10-year-old. Gone far too early, but he's going to be around a long time.
I cried when your cousin died. Heard it on the radio while getting dressed for school
Scott: We all miss Terry, especially those of us that revered his playing.

it's nice to know that you know!
it does the same thing to me,what a beautiful piece of music
He has been gone for 40 years now. Hard to believe.
Shele Grimm This is from " Electra glide in Blue" .... the final scene..... Terry was the killer who shoots Robert Blake !!!
@@micheledeleon1680 It still saddens me to this day that he is gone from us. I am 68. I was 14 when I first heard the band, CTA.
Love love love this song. RIP Terry
this needs to be played at every sporting event...every one...and everyone sings toward the end...
Right - with the audience standing - not kneeling - with their hands on their hearts
What about sporting events outside America?
We were blessed to have had someone so abundantly gifted share his talents with us. My heart will forever be broken because we lost him so young. Terry, I know you are up there singing and playing up a storm! Rock on, dear brother! 🎸 🎶 💔 🇺🇸
After Terry, Chicago was never as good as with him.
They certainly were never as soulful. Kath's voice could make a bronze statue get goose bumps.
Means more now than it did in '73 when I was 12 years old. Wonderful!!!
Best ever.
J Bowman I think so !!😢👍
his voice, his genius, just makes me tearful..... Thank you for your music
Your right. Will be missed.

A home run Mr. Kath. Rip Terry
more like a grand slam homerun
Terry was Heart and Soul of Chicago.
After his death, Chicago became another Band.
EXTREMELY powerful and inspirational song. This is the song played on the ending of the 1973 movie "Electra Glide in blue" starring Robert Blake.
Just caught a rerun of Miami Vice finale and this song played during the closing scenes. Never heard it before. Solid song.
Okay, it was great in Miami Vice. But the final scene in Electra Glide in blue is a spiritual experience

What a great song. It`s so good, it was used as the ending theme for Electra Glide in Blue AND the finale of Miami Vice!
How he backs out at the end to let the orchestra and backround singers become fire! What a fine sense he had..
