    Omg I just realized that the tour guide by Mjolnir was Thor's roommate, Darryl, in the Team Thor shorts! So nice of Thor to get his friend a job xD
    You could also consider Jane "dying in battle" as the battle being against cancer. That's how I chose to interpret it, at least.

    I think Thor as a character deals with trauma through (misplaced) humor so it's not a coincidence that with every Thor movie he becomes more of a "joke". The trauma keeps increasing and he tried to laugh it off.
    Also, Korg is the narrator right? I think that says it all
    I did like the movie a lot

    The child of Eternity is Love. In the comics Love is personified and she is off the charts powerful. She can drop Galactus on his face in a fight. It wouldn’t even be a contest. But she isn’t as strong as Eternity. Eternity only has a handful of beings more power than itself. The Living Tribunal would be one and, obviously, The One Above All.

    I mean (and I’m saying this in the lens of the movie, not offensively) didn’t she die because of the battle with cancer, which would be more poignant with how Valkyrie described how the death had to be “ gruesome and painful“.

  • @thealjohnsonshow2188
    @thealjohnsonshow2188 Год назад +2

    This was a very, very fun movie. Yes, I know it's inferior to Ragnarok, but I still wholeheartedly enjoyed the hell out of it.
    Christian Bale is one of the all-time greats in acting, and he's my personal favorite Batman. So, the fact that he's in the MCU and played Gorr the God Butcher was fascinating. Do I wish he had more screentime? Absolutely. In my opinion, he's one of the most compelling MCU villains ever. To me, the energy he had was equivalent to Heath Ledger's Joker in The Dark Knight.
    Natalie Portman as Jane aka the Mighty Thor was awesome. While the first two movies didn't really showcase her talents all that well, this movie delivered on everything involving her. I adored the hell out of her. I'm sad to see her go, but I'm hopeful for her eventual return.
    Chris Hemsworth, despite what others have said, is phenomenal as Thor. Over a decade into playing the character, he has truly found his stride. I can't wait for more classic Thor adventures with him.
    Tessa Thompson as King Valkyrie and Taika Waititi as Korg were also great highlights, especially Valkyrie. Now, I was a little bored with Korg, not gonna lie. Valkyrie, I felt like didn't have a whole lot to do. Plus, I thought she was a little shortchanged in the whole movie.
    The Guns N' Roses shout-outs throughout this movie, especially the use of certain songs were incredible. The vibes throughout the movie was special. The music is also beautiful as well. Also, seeing the cosmic entity known as Eternity in live-action was shocking to see. It was also cool to see so many Gods in the MCU. I think they're gonna play a big part in the coming years of the MCU.
    Plus, apparently, a majority of kids in this movie was the actual children of Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Christian Bale and Taika Waititi. In fact, Hemsworth's daughter, India Rose, played Gorr's daughter Love in this movie (she's the daughter that died in the beginning and then resurrected at the end). Also, the wolf lady hybrid in Thor's montage at the beginning was played by Chris Hemsworth's wife. She was the woman kissing Thor in the end credit scene of The Dark World after Natalie Portman departed.
    Also, despite what haters say, it is very emotional. The romance in this movie was beautiful. Also, Russell Crowe as Zeus was a highlight. The post-credit scenes, especially the mid-credit tease of Hercules in the 5th movie, are some of the best in the MCU.
    If I have any negatives regarding this movie, it would be the overabundance of the humor (which I personally didn't mind), wonky CG effects and lack of runtime/character work. I personally think that an extra 10 minutes would have fleshed things out even more (just like Multiverse of Madness).
    Also, in my opinion, I didn't really like the screaming goats. They annoyed me to no end. I also didn't like that the Guardians of the Galaxy, who were shown a lot in the trailers, had stupid little screentime in the movie. It was like they didn't need to be there.
    Other than those complaints, I really, really enjoyed Thor: Love and Thunder. I have defended this movie to no end, and will continue to do so regardless of what any detractors say.
    I can't wait for Thor 5.

    It was ok for me. It tried to outdo Ragnorak which was a mistake tonally after Infinity War and Endgame. Thor has the saddest backstory besides Wanda. They could’ve given that more weight, instead they made all his trauma out to be a joke (that wasn’t funny to me at all) in a two minute montage narrated by Korg. And him being a father at the end? Hmmmm….let’s hope he can do a better job than Odin did with him. 😬
    The villain’s name is literally Gorr the God Butcher and we only see him kill one God in the beginning and rest are off screen. Maybe the minutes they gave to Jane trying to come up with dumb cringey catchphrases would’ve been better used on an actual montage of us seeing Gods actually dying before the first confrontation in New Asgard. Gorr was a great villain that wasn’t given his due diligence because they wanted to overplay the comedy. Another notch on the belt of Marvel’s villain problem.
    Zeus and the Gods? Another underwhelming joke. Did we need to see Zeus twirling a thunderbolt for two minutes?
    I might be alone but Thor and Jane have never had chemistry to me. She was written badly from the first movie and they just haven’t recovered from it. How she went from Black Swan and V for Vendetta to this I’ll never understand. The only time in any of these movies where I finally felt any real chemistry from these two was the hospital scene near the end of this movie.
    This feels like a total backslide in Thor’s character. This is just above Dark World for me. Watching reactors’ reactions is the only ways I’ll be rewatching this movie but if others enjoy, then great! This one just wasn’t for me lol!

    I honestly think people are a little too harsh with this movie because it’s not what they wanted out of a Thor movie. I think people somehow wanted it to be as funny as Ragnarok but also be serious and contribute to Thor’s development. And Taika seemed to really try to do it…but doing it completely in his own style with those big expectations seemed to muddy it up instead of making it truly epic. So my comment is just “be careful what you wish for” because the too-high expectations kind of ruined it for people.
    Me, I choose to enjoy it for what it is- basically a silly, fun, mediocre rom com with some serious elements to it. I do love Jane as Mighty Thor in this; she was so under-utilized in the past movies and Natalie and and Chris had more chemistry here than in their other two movies. She was more developed and the relationship was more developed and that’s really why I tear up when Jane dies in the end. The second half of the movie is quite well done imo…but the first half is an enjoyable yet overwhelming mess, and there are definitely some plot inconsistencies that make me scratch my head. But some of the other comments I’ve seen about it being one of the “worst” movies and complaining about Jane and that they “ruined” Thor’s character…it’s a little much. And I think those people forget that Chris Hemsworth wanted to continue playing Thor BECAUSE of Taika and wanted to continue working with him. Overall, if the actors enjoyed making it and were okay with the fun tone and the character development, then I’m fine with it too despite its messy aspects.

This was NOT a perfect film and I wish he had not been pressured to edit it down to such a short run time--without edits, he had four full hours for this--so a future Waititi Cut would include things some people accurately thought was lacking, like Gorr ACTUALLY butchering Gods and more about Jane's Cancer and her becoming and then training as Mighty Thor, all of which were filmed but edited out.

    saw it three times in the theatre and once so far on Disney+! not a perfect film, but i think it is my favorite Thor movie that combined a lot of my favorite things from the first three (with some of the schtick i didn't particularly care for from Ragnarok, like the "reenactment" stuff, but the awesome far outweighed the irritating for me. ;) ). I wish we could have seen more of Gorr in the first half actually butchering some gods, and i'd have loved to have seen more of Jane and Val's friendship when Jane first took up the hammer, but a lot of that falls under the banner of "give me more of the things you made me love, please!". the goats...meh, it was a one note joke and i didn't care for the note, but i found it less grating on subsequent viewings, and i do chuckle when they bleat after hitting the planet in the Shadow Realm. and i don't care what anyone says about the kids in battle scene, i LOVED it! so much fun! i actually liked Korg more in this movie than in Ragnarok, but i felt like he had more to do in this one rather than just being the interjection joke machine in the last one (didn't love him forgetting the names of the Warriors Three, especially after they go so severely nerfed and shat upon in the last movie, but i also had to remind myself that Korg never met any of them so wouldn't have much reason to recall their names). i think Taika rather enjoys the humor of taking the joke too far or living in the awkwardness after the joke, so chalk that up to stylistic preferences. sometimes it works, sometimes not so much. as far as Jane getting weaker from using Mjolnir, i think of it like taking a drug that makes you feel better, but if you stop taking it you feel even worse than when you started. since she can't hold on to the hammer and thus stay Thor all the time, that creates a problem. in the comics, it's a little bit clearer because the hammer is purging the "poisons" of her chemo treatment from her system when she changes, but the movie starts out with the chemo having no effect anyway which is why she seeks out/is called to Mjolnir in the first place so they had to go with the simpler if messier "hammer make good when Thor, but make bad when Jane" kind of explanation. Jane does die and go to Valhalla in the comics, but comes back and becomes the new Valkyrie so maybe we're setting up a team up movie/show with her and Val (fingers crossed i hope i hope i hope!). my take on "Love" and her powers is that she is Gorr's daughter, but Eternity used part of their essence to give her a body which gives her some measure of their power (or perhaps allows her to serve as a vessel/avatar for them?). there is a character called Singularity in the comics who has that kind of "the universe as a little girl" appearance and plays mostly in the A-Force comics, so maybe they're FINALLY going to give us that team up as well. ;) until then, she and Uncle Thor can just fight the good fight for those that can't fight good!

    I checked it out at the theater, and I felt Kevin Fiege didn't do his job in keeping Waititi in line and maintaining the quality control of the movie which would have made it a more emotional impactful movie. I felt with all the silliness the sad scenes like Jane having cancer and die didn't have much weight to it. The God Butcher didn't kill enough Gods to fear him maybe they should have shown him killing more Gods and maybe I would have feared Thor battling with him. I think people now hate on She-Hulk because of this movie being so silly and to have two silly Marvel content back to back is hard to take but for me I have no problem with She-Hulk being a comedy because that is what I thought it would be because in the comics that is how they write it but these stories of Thor were very serious but I knew that they have made Thor more comedy now that Tiaka Waititi has started directing and had huge success from Ragnarok but I thought he would balance the humor out better than this mess like he did with JOJO Rabbit a very serious movie but very funny.

Loved it and can't wait for She-Hulk this week 😍 ( One more thing i just remembered ) I really liked the goats , even tho sometimes i think they were too much, the whole goat thing is actually a real thing from Nordic mythology. Thor actually did have two goats in the mythology, and i think it's super cool that they added that :D

    The reason I hated this movie is because the comic book story line of if it's so great and dark that to see it being turned into a bad comedy hurts me deeply. If they removed the comedic expects of this movie it would have been a fairly decent adaptation

    • @cupguin
      @cupguin Год назад +1

      Maybe but Thor is a difficult character to adapt into a movie. There's so much lore you take for granted as a reader, the more "cosmic" you go the narrower your audience is and you're having to turn something inherently ridiculous into serious cinema.
      It's not just Thor either there are a lot of heroes and storylines that even with the complexity the MCU has just wouldn't work as beat for beat adaptations. I mean these are stories that took decades to built to and months or years to publish getting condensed into a few hours.
      It's definitely a bold choice to put someone like Waititi in charge but before that we got Thor 2 which I'm still angry at for how bad it was. Wasted a bunch of great characters, an incomprehensibly ridiculous storyline that turns into a third act they drag out because what else is left?
      This movie was not that I would have expected if someone had asked me at the time "what would this look like in a movie?" but I can't honestly say that there was definitely a much better option for how to adapt it. That is working with the characters on hand, with the MCU history they have, how close can you realistically get in a movie?

    • @piet1486
      @piet1486 Год назад +1

      @@cupguin I get that but they choose this story line knowing the difficulties it intailed , there are so many stories of the Thor comics they could have chosen .i think Taika realised it when it was too late to change it so he just inserted comedy to cover the cracks but the comedy just highlighted it's flaws

    • @cupguin
      @cupguin Год назад +1

      @@piet1486 I mean have you seen any of his other work? It seems doubtful he was originally planning some dark gritty super accurate adaptation but then suddenly thought "but wait I could add jokes!".
      It also honestly feels like a sideways step away from Ragnarok while still being a very deliberate sequel.
      The first movie deconstructed the idea of Asgard while simultaneously fleshing out what Asgardian actually means. The first Thor movies Asgardians were Thor or his friends and family. In both we were confronted with the fairly serious lingering damage caused by Asgard in the past, then we're just supposed to shrug it off and move on. The Jotunheim was dying and Odin was fine that his sons think of Jotuns as monsters. Svartálfheim same except it has died and Bor's genocide is apparently almost complete. And apart from Odin thinking Loki blowing up a dying plant is wrong, for some reason, that's the last we have to think about that.
      In Ragnarok Thor's journey is figuring out what Agard is while his sister is busily stripping away the lies. None of the things he thought made Asgard were real or true except for the people currently living there.
      Love & Thunder does the same thing with the nature of divinity within a universe where gods are real but are apparently not taking part. In addition to doing some heavy lifting changing the first draft "Viking deities are space aliens, no questions!" more towards something more useful for the MCU, we're left with a very similar journey. I also found it very noticeable that Thor is having his character passed on as stories to people within the structure of the movie. What is a Marvel god without their story?
      Gor is then not just the same kind of foil Taika liked for his first Thor movie but also the antithesis of Marvel divinity. He's telling his own stories and they aren't about his divine actions but his life as a human. He's turned into not just the mirror version of Jane but also all Marvel gods. Which, while not a strict adaptation, doesn't feel rushed or unthought out. Those parallels are far too interwoven into the story structure to just dismiss the changes.
