The reason Rudy froze is because the hydra started using the necks to attack and they were not within his field of vision, so his eye of foresight was seeing a bunch of destruction confusing tf outta Rudeus since the necks until that moment were basically just dead weight, and unlike Paul he does not have insane reaction time.
Not to mention that one would never expect to see the attack of a decapitated head come out of nowhere, at all times the hydra's necks remained without reacting like that until those moments when it decided to attack Rudy directly.
@@kabosuiEven if it wasn't for that, the first time it was falling debris that he couldn't have braced for, then it was that the necks started attacking and even nearly killed Roxy The whole situation was chaos and Rudy was constantly in immediate danger, because Paul insisted that they press on despite Geese saying they should head back and regroup, they definitely could have. They took the risk because they didn't want to turn back, Paul even told his very own son to die trying if need be. Overall, I don't think it's worth blaming anybody. Although, i'm sure that by now Rudy played that situation through his head a thousand times, thinking what he did wrong
I just thought Rudeus was overwhelmed and amazed by the group’s effort in bringing down the Hydra. He was just caught up with the thought that they are so close in completing the job.
Yes The studio released the episode where Rudy was announced to have a child on mother's day And likely decided skipped a week just so they could release this episode on Father's Day We might just be witnessing a Goated studio at trolling
The biggest trolling they did is making the God-tier season one, and then taking away most of the staff that made season 1 great and putting them into other projects like Onimai or Idolmaster.
I think releasing it on Father's Day was a happy coincidence. It wouldn't surprise me if the reason they delayed it was to get the animation looking like it did. This episode looked amazing and would have been worked on for a while to get as much across as they did.
Just because the LN explained it, doesn't justify that the anime made it look weird when Rudy froze all of the sudden. The anime has the job of conveying all the information that the viewer needs to understand what's going on.
I gotta give massive respect to Lilia, you just know she was emotionally destroyed the moment she heard Paul didn't make it back, but she still kept her composure and made sure to tend to Rudy first. She's lowkey been more of a mother figure for him than Zenith, due to obvious circumstances.
Yeah unironically the woman that was almost kicked out of his home ended up being more motherly to him, simply because he has been able to see her more over the years
Lilia is awesome. She's done some... questionable things and has her flaws, but deserves respect. Definitely one of my favorite characters. Has some special qualities that should be appreciated. (I have also read the novel tho but this ep. definitely shows some of those qualities)
@@HiddenStr3ngth awesome my ass bro, she is the one I hate most in the show. She seduce paul to cheat on his wife, raising aisha to pay up for her faults by being a slave for rudeus, what kind of mother teach her kid to have sex with their brother in law if he want to? And when it finally happen (SPOILER CONTENT aisha vs ars), she want to kill her
Yes, Rudy has more attachment to Lilia and Paul than zenith. Maybe that's what MG was trying to convey that he will be unhappy if he goes. Possibility of cause if he didn't go: zenith is alive but won't be found until idk how long, roxy's death is simply news because Rudy haven't seen her physically in years same as zenith, there will be no extreme emotional trigger. In other words, nothing *too* big is affecting him (maybe only affect Paul and Norn). So essentially what MG is saying, is not wrong in the slightest.
i mean it's perfect sense because paul action represented responsibility as a father so it corelated it just sad because the follow up paul is split in half like gojo
I actually thought that it was just coincidence, but then I searched and apparently, Father's Day is also big in Japan. So yep now I believe that the fuckers in the studio really delayed the episode so that it'd air during Father's Day.
9:04 i saw somebody say that in the light novel it was explained that the headless hydra parts were fucking with Rudy's future sight so he couldn't see when and where the actual attack came in
Yeah, apparently, when it got down to one head it started flailing both it's head and it's stumps really violently, which it had never done before, so the afterimages from Rudy's future sight covered his entire vision and he got stunned from the what the fuckery of what he was seeing, I wish the anime actually portrayed it
@@add6246 I feel like the first time it almost got him would have been equally shocking since it tried to stomp him, from his view it would just have suddenly been the inside of it's foot/dark in all directions, until he was saved the first time by Paul.
Assuming that's true why wouldn't they put it on the show? without it Paul's death just looked like a cheap plot device enabled by a plot hole, specially considering they clearly showed the eye ability working at the beggining of the fight so it's not like they completely forgot that it existed.
@@Synthwalk It's in the LN so it is true, but yeah idk why the anime didn't showcase it better. It definitely looked like Rudy just became absentminded in the anime.
to explain why he paused, they didn't really show it well but, From the LN "It was then, just as I was using my magic to cauterize the second to last stump, that the hydra’s body trembled. I didn’t know what that movement meant. I could see it with my Eye of Foresight, but I didn’t understand it. The creature was too big." TL;DR the hydra was too big for Rudy to decipher it's next move when it was up close
Honestly, I haven't read the LN, but from context, I assumed he spent an absolutely INSANE amount of mana blocking that breath attack, so he didn't have much left to fuel his Eye, and while he's in waaaaay better shape than he once was, I just figured he couldn't react fast enough without that advantage.
@@spacenerdtrue rudy have more mana than that, badigadi himself confirm that rudy having the mana pool that can compared to laplace, it no where near to drained in this battle
@@spacenerdtrue Rudy is running on a mana tank of 1,000,000 compared to other high rank mages like Roxy who only have a tank of around 200. Rudy's nowhere close to being depleted here.
then after getting pushed by Paul he took a few seconds to realise that what his eye had shown him was the hydra using it's headless necks as whips, that's when the main head aimed at him and he got kicked by paul.
The reason he froze was because he was trying to read the hydras movements with his eye of foresight. But it was thrashing frantically and extremely desperate.
Rudy was using the eye of foresight the entire fight, and it was keeping him out of harms way. At the end it started thrashing uncontrollably, and overloaded his eye, the same way it did in his fight with Orstead.
@@HiddenStr3ngththat definitely would’ve helped, even a 2 second shot of rudys vision being completely blinded by all the posible movements would have explained it but they went for an epic shot of paul saving rudy.
8:44 The reason Geese ran off after the breath attack is because he's not a good fighter. He'd just get in everyone's way if he got close to the hydra. Geese handles traps and mapping for the team inside dungeons, and logistics, gathering info, etc, outside of them. My man knows his role and is acting accordingly during the battle.
his role was to let the guild and home keeping party know if the party got wiped out. Tho I honestly wonder how would he be able to get out of there alone
Rudy made the right choice, if he hadn’t gone there Roxy would have defo died, Zenith wouldn’t have been found and the party could have easily gone through the wrong portal. Also, Paul would have just been straight up depressed, even though he died, he was at least happy.
Spoiler In the LN it was explained that during the journey there they saved a caravan. Which if they didn't there would have been a change of events that caused another unknown adventurer to go to the dungeon and he would have saved Roxy. Also because of the events Paul would have eventually called off finding Zenith and went home alive to Rudy and his daughters. So choices were only one parent was able to come on depending on the choice for Rudy to leave or stay.
@@kinghoenn3478 spoiler for the LN No, Roxy would've definitely died and the same would've probably died too, the man god statements need to be considered within context
@@miguelrodriguezgonzalez6396 Spoilers Man God's goal was to stop Roxy and Rudy from having a child together. If she got married to somebody else then that is just another problem solved. Also this keeps him in Rudy's trust for a bit longer until he would use him for some other scheme down the road.
Why can't people just discuss the content we watched? I expected to see some comments like that in this thread, yet it's nothing but spoiler talk. Anways, yeah man, I agree with your perspective. The Man-God said he would regret it either way, but so far this seems like a good choice all things considered---especially that observation you made about Paul.
@@kinghoenn3478 Spoiler First even in the lie he told, it was mentioned the other adventurer would've saved her but he wouldn't have fallen for her. After TP4 he confirmed that no matter what he tried he couldn't keep Rudeus and Roxy from ending up together and her getting pregnant
Nah, Paul downplayed it when Rudy mentioned it. He is now stronger, than during his adventurer days. Seeing how strong Rudy was as a kid motivated him to continue practising, so he could keep up with him. Plus he has fought a lot since coming to this continent. Both outside and inside the dungeon, even just traveling around is no joke here. And even his gear is better than it used to be.
And he is Advanced in all three schools of swordsmanship, so he trades power for flexibility. Put in a King of any of the styles in there, and the fight would've been shorter and surer.
@@sojtus8681 oh I might’ve misinterpreted that scene. It was a little hard for me to like understand what they meant by it because it was just like facial expressions. Thank you for the clarification.
Others already mentioned why Rudy froze, but another little detail is shortly right after when Rudy sticks his arm in the eye of the hydra, he does that because he’s triggered by his ptsd of Orsted who has the same pupils.
Everything happens so fast so the confusion is understandable, but Rudeus "freezing up" was because the Hydra basically switched up its attack patterns on the final phase of the boss fight and he couldn't process what was going on. The Hydra started swinging its decapitated necks everywhere which put the mages, who had to stick close to the front lines, in danger and would've killed Rudeus and Roxy if it weren't for Paul and Talhand protecting them. And the final head went for Rudeus at the end cuz it knew Rudeus was both its biggest threat and the easiest target.
Nah, the first one is the other way around. Gojo got pauled, since paul's death happened in 2013 in the web novel, so that was way before jjk even existed.
6:37 To be fair to Paul here, Rudy has a weird habbit of being so emotionally detatched that is seems like he "doesn't care" about his family (as we saw in this very episode when he says he doesn't really feels consider Zenith his mom as much as someone he grew up with) and Paul knows it. Remember back in S1 when Paul and Rudy reunited for the first time and Rudy seemed waaay more concerned with Sylphy than he did his own mom and sisters? By asking Rudy to "save his mom even if it kills him", Paul basically asks Rudy to focus on their family *for once* - thats how much saving Zenith means to him.
No, its paul conveying his trust to rudy and that paul sees rudy equally as a man, one who is capable of saving zenith. Paul said he wasn't supposed to say that to his son because he knows rudy was about to have a child but still got dragged into saving zenith. Rudy realized that paul was trying to convey his determination and resolve, and that he wanted rudy to do the same.
I don’t know this myself I just read a comment, but apparently Rudy froze because the Hydra started attacking with its stumps when there was one head left, and it threw him off guard. Probably explained more in the light novel.
You can kinda see it but yeah, it wasn't shown well. Wonder if they would adjust something in the blu ray. I don't think it's that big of a deal though. It's a very fast paced dangerous fight where a momentary mistake can be the end for someone. They are people, they aren't perfect and all powerful. Including Rudeus. Many of them had close calls multiple times. Many reasons as to why this could happen.
Appearantly he wasn't bitten but hit by a stump. The scales were just so sharp themselves that a direct him from the body cleaved him. That's how dangerous that shit was.
Also from the previous combat against those heads of the hydra, we can see when Rudy was at close range, he definitely needed and got covered several times. But when the final head attacks him, both Elinalise and Talhand can’t come to cover.
Realistically this was probably the best outcome apart from everyone surviving. If rudy didnt come roxxy would have died for sure, they probably would have struggled to find another mage and eventually started going back in. More could have been hurt or killed but Paul wouldn't have left until he knew for sure and he would have just got more self destructive until he probably died in the dungeon. Rudy might have heard in the future that roxxy died in a dungeon if he did he'd probably find out that it was the dungeon Paul had taken her to in order to find Zenith. He would blame himself for not going and it would tank his reputation with anyone involved that Paul's party needed a good mage and Rudy his son and an amazing mage wasn't there it would be like some cosmic tragedy. Rudy needed to be there for better or worse because last time he never looked at his parent's faces in the funeral he needed to see their faces in this life to complete part of his arc.
11:28 I saw this explanation from another comment section and wanted to put it here so here it is “If you notice Rudy was being saved left and right throughout this entire fight by either Elinalise or Paul, he just couldn't keep up with those two with superhuman strength. At the end he was distracted by the Hydra attacking with it's necks so he didn't notice that he drew aggro on the remaining head.”
too bad this is just flat out wrong, It's really weird how there's so many people pretending to know the answer. Rudy used his demon eye to see the future, he saw a bunch of overlapping necks thrashing, but because he was too close, he couldn't understand what he was seeing so reacted late. This is THE ONLY correct answer because this written in the source material.
I recommend everyone who liked this labyrinth arc to listen to the Mushoku Tensei Volume 12 Drama CD. You can find it on RUclips. This brings several moments of this arc from different perspectives, for example: Roxy's rescue from Rudeus' perspective, and Paul's death from his perspective, having his last thoughts. Paul's last thoughts. --- "Am I dying?" "I want to confirm if Zenith was alive or not, at least." "Not only that, but Norn and Aisha..." "I wanted to see them again." "Are they going to school?" "Have they grown up?" "Lillia - what kind of reaction will she have to this? Even if it's a pain..." "Will she cry?" "Dammit, I'm filled with regrets." "I don't want to die..." "Still... there are.. still... so many things I wanted to do." Rudy: "Father!" "But..... Oh well..." "It’s better than seeing Rudy die." "Chin up, my son. Stay positive..." He smiles one final time.
According to the novel, Rudy saw (with his demon eye) the Hydra do something. It was going to fling its severed necks around like a whip. He saw but couldn't react to it quick enough and Paul had to kick him away. Here it is word for word: It was then, just as I was using my magic to cauterize the second to last stump, that the hydra’s body trembled. I didn’t know what that movement meant. I could see it with my Eye of Foresight, but I didn’t understand it. The creature was too big. “You moron!” “Wait-!” Before I realized what was happening, Paul had slammed me out of the way. Something enormous came crashing down right in front of my eyes. But…it didn’t have a head anymore? No-there was no head, but it did still have a neck. The hydra was slinging its headless necks around like spiked whips- all eight of them! Every one of them was coated in tough scales that could shred flesh like a cheese grater. It whipped those necks around all at once, mowing down anything in the vicinity. “Ruuudyyyyy!” Paul screamed, driving his foot into me to kick me out of the way. Almost simultaneously, a thud resounded as something smashed to the ground right where I’d been a moment ago, in the once-empty space that had existed between Paul and me.
Paul's death was spoiled to me in the worst way possible: Instagram recommendations. Just a single frame in a sea of images. Man was I mad... I tried really hard to forget it, but of course it was impossible. It was the first and last spoiler I ever saw of Mushoku too. On the other hand, I was only expecting it from this episode, so the Zenith twist really got me
I felt that, had it spoiled for me in the first cour for this season. Usually the LN readers for Mushoku are pretty chill with spoilers but they were going crazy in the comments last cour.
In reality Paul can’t see anything. I know he has his eyes open but the amount of damage was too much. he already lost so much blood. He’s literally in his own head filled with regret and sadness. Only at the last second does he remember he saved Rudy and it was a better outcome of him dying then Rudy and his last thought is “Stay positive” and shows a dying smile not knowing if anyone can see it or not.
@@MadaraUchihaSecondRikudo its pretty good, since i can't post link in the comment you can type in youtube " WN13/LN12 spoilers] Mushoku Tensei - CD Drama | ENG subbed "
@@MadaraUchihaSecondRikudoI only listened to this section with Paul but it was so good I might go back and listen to more. You can tell Paul’s voice actor in the audio book gave it his all.
Tl;dr for the last bit of the fight: >Hydra attack pattern changed (started using ALL of its stumps) >Hydra big af so it going wild compltely blocked his normal vision + foresight >Rudy's not physically capable to react upon the sudden change >he had no one to tank for him since they're protecting Roxy >Hydra's eyelids were heavy and sharp like a guillotine which snapped Rudy's arm
Errbody cried. Even those of us who've read the novel and knew what was coming, it was still hard to see. Paul was an absolute beast during this fight and was the most down to earth character in the novel. He will be sorely missed and I won't be watching this episode again 😭
When we first learned Eris’s grandfather got killed and her family was dead as well i remember thinking “and of course Eris’ family is dead but Paul is alive (i know he suffered hardships) and they will probably find Zenith as well because Rudy is the main character so of course his family survives” I TAKE THAT BACK. My bad and apologies, there was no main character plot armor. And the fact that they released this in father’s day of all days 😭
Nah man the protagonist's parent usually dont live that long in anime most of the time, So I dont know what plot armor ur talking about, plot armor on the protag themselves yes but not on the parents especially the father lol, But even if we saw it coming this one still hurt 😢
Its a very common troupe for the parents/ sensei to die for a main character for both their development and developing gradual stakes for the story. So it is definitely not as unique as you think it is. Even if the story is amazing, it still generally follow the same old cliché troupe like alot of other fantasy story/ anime medium in the end.
11:35 yea he technically saw everything that was about to happen and couldn't process it fast enough. The hydra started throwing everything at the wall . Never back a dangerous creature into a corner and all that
I mean he did tell Rudeus he'd regret it if he went 😂

for those saying that Rudy 'spaced out' at the end... not really; it's more that the Hydra went 'off script' and caught him off guard with something new when down to the final head. It attacked with its neck stumps (you can barely see that in the anime as there's a neck stump slammed into the ground) which caught him off guard; he even had trouble telling what it was doing via foresight until it was too late.
Also the reason why Geese aint fighting is because he'd just be in the way, so he'll just support from time to time, its explained in the novel, but anime cuts info
same lmao just gotta love the anime that hits you so hard on some episodes that it got you thinking about it when you're supposed to be sleeping MT is one of the very few that accomplishes this for me...
Some fun fact, cut content and insight from the novel: -In the start of the season he named his arms Hulk and Hercules. His left arm was named Hercules. -For those saying that Rudy 'spaced out' at the end... not really; it's more that the Hydra went 'off script' and caught him off guard with something new when down to the final head. It attacked with its neck stumps (you can barely see that in the anime as there's a neck stump slammed into the ground) which caught him off guard; he even had trouble telling what it was doing via foresight until it was too late. -The smaller sword on Pa/ul's left hand is a magic sword, it can't cut through butter, but it can cut steel. The harder the target the sharper it gets -Also the anime has never once mentioned touki (translated as battle aura), which is basically people subconsciously wrapping themselves in mana, giving them superhuman capabilities, like how Paul and Elinalise can move so fast and jump so fucking high. Orsted's is especially strong, which is how he blocked that Stone Cannon and it only grazed him, and a bit of dialogue from Badigadi was cut about it - he asks Rudeus if he was able to injure Orsted, and wanted to see how an attack from Rudeus would do against his own touki and got split in half. Rudeus tried using touki, but has been unable to use it with every attempt. -"Save your mother, even if it kills you!" Paul isn't saying that just to Rudeus. He's telling himself that. Paul's mother died when he was 11, and she was pretty much the only person in the family whom he loved and felt loved by. When he started getting closer to Zenith, his image of her started blending with the memory of his mother, for they were similar in appearance and demeanor. He fell in love with Zenith because he felt the same kind of kindness and warmth from her as he did from his mother. So by rescuing Zenith, he'd be saving his mother.
It’s rough because if Rudy didn’t go then Roxy would have died but if he didn’t his dad survives… Impossible decision considering how much both mean to him
Fun fact the only reason Paul was able to cut the heads off was because his short sword has a skill on it which get sharper the harder the thing he cutting is.the hydra scales are like diamonds or harder then that I forget.Kinda weird they didn’t cover that here
That episode felt like the real Turning Point 3. Sad to see Paul go, but at least he was able to go out in a blaze of glory. The animation on him blitzing that hydra was incredible, we've known he was a solid swordsman most of the series but he was going nuts. Not to mention his VA was absolutely KILLING it; from the screams of anger, to the somber moments with Rudy, and just the sound of pain in his voice after they had to bail from the labyrinth the first time. Took them almost the whole season but this episode was straight fire.
Listen to Paul(lol), one of those swords is the reason why they could even cut the hydra. they skipped the explanation when fighting the skeletons in the earlier floors. Yes it was a metaphor but it is true in both sense.
I personally think that rudeus would woulf regret it more if roxy died. He was having a panic attack just hearing that she fell into a teleportation trap
Yo did they pull a Casca on Zenith ? That's going to be tough for Rudy lost your dad, your arm and now mom is in this mental state. All his missing now is a mechanical arm, losing one of his eyes and great sword and he's the new generation Guts.
They didn't show it in the anime very well, but the reason Rudy "froze," which caused Paul to kick him out of the way and take the hit, was because his eye of foresight got overloaded again. Like when he first used it against Ruijerd and in his fight with Orstead. Basically he was in so close and the Hydra was beginning to flail at the same time using it's severed necks as weapons, Rudy was seeing necks coming at his from several sides. He couldn't see the main head coming at him at the same time.
I knew it was coming, but i didn't expect to see paul die without saying anything, just a fainting smile of a man that managed to protect his son and was proud of it😢 And just like Paul said before, he wasn't the best father at first, and he wasn't the smartest, but even still, he did what he could to improve his life and be a better person and a father, so for someone like me who had a similar situation with mi own father who sadly passed away months before i got the news, not being able to know his final thoughts, it is something that hits hard in the end
So at 9:38, I've read somewhere that Rudy didn't actually freeze, but the Hydra was about to attack randomly, thus leading his demon eye to basically show a lot of the hydra movements which rudy didn't understand/couldn't understand. He basically wasn't understanding what was going on
The reason Rudeus froze up wasn't clearly shown in the anime. But in the LN thr Hydra pulled a little trick that confused him and caused him to froze up
Sad thing about Paul’s death is the only reason he died is the very reason why Rudy is powerful. Rudy possesses a ginormous mana pool, but he can’t form a battle aura, meaning he can’t augment his physical capabilities. I can’t remember the exact details, but this is a scenario of the law of conservation of energy. because of this, when paul goes to kick him out of the way, him having far greater physical strength via his aura means he’s less repelled away when he pushes rudy, putting him right in the position rudy was just in. If rudy had a battle aura, at most Paul likely would’ve lost just his leg instead of his entire lower half
To answer Lupa's question about Rudeus freezing, basically one of the severed heads of the hydra went "off script" thrashing around, Rudeus couldn't process that information in time due to lack of experience which led him to freeze like that. So about Zenith, what (mostly) happened to her is that her mind has regressed to a child like state, she is fully conscious of her surroundings, I won't say any further.
You see IF Rudy didnt go I think they still would have found the boss room though it would take way way way longer without the book and rudy. So heres where the whole mangod thing where he says that he would have regretted going there doesn't work. If rudy didnt go Roxy would have died, Then they would've only had paul, geese and talhand and the 2 girls, Paul most certainly would have still died because he was not going back without zenith, and maybe his whole party would have died though that depends on if they would have left paul in there by himself with the hydra. Sure rudy would still have his left hand but im pretty sure he would have regretted it far more if he didnt go.
They really shattered our expectations on both of his parents! . Like we all saw Paul's death coming or in that momeny saw the hit where it was clear, but then they hold it off till revealing he's upside down split in half still barely alive for a few more seconds... Then with Zenith we all knew Something would be different/wrong, she then wakes up with the a confused look and we all think she forgot Rudy or lost a bunch of memories, but then it ends up being Literal Total Memory Lose like regressed to an infant...
Paul told Rudy to save his mother, even if he had to die for it. Rudy is a mage and doesn't have the superhuman strength that Paul and Elinalise have. So, he was in a vulnerable position all fight due to how close he had to get, and he put his life on the line. Once the hydra went all out for Rudy, he was going to die to save his mother until Paul saved him at the last second. Everything makes sense. That is how the story was written; there is no "this is so stupid why didn't Rudy just dodge." Why does anything happen in a story? Because there would be no story otherwise.
I knew that Paul was going to die since I have read the novels but seeing everything animated hits me in a different and painful way, not to mention that the way Paul fought, cutting off the heads of the hydra without hesitation, you can tell that he was a great warrior. and very powerful, It is assumed that he had become weaker from spending several years searching for everyone in Villa Buena and he still fought like a damn final boss. rest in peace Paul. 💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔
Paul's last thoughts: "Am I dying?" "I want to confirm if Zenith was alive or not, at least." "Not only that, but Norn and Aisha..." "I wanted to see them again." "Are they going to school?" "Have they grown up?" "Lillia - what kind of reaction will she have to this? Even if it's a pain..." "Will she cry?" "Dammit, I'm filled with regrets." "I don't want to die..." "Still... there are.. still... so many things I wanted to do." Rudy: "Father!" "But..... Oh well..." "It's better than seeing Rudy die." "Chin up, my son. Stay positive..." He smiles one final time
They didnt mentioned but the reason why rudy was stun it was bc he didnt understand the hydra movement (with the eye that can see 2 seconds in the future)
Zenith's expression was disfigured and she couldn't communicate, but from Zenith's point of view, she felt healthy and there was nothing wrong with that. I think it's the curse of the dungeon or the crystal
Rudeus froze because the hydra focused on killing him with all the stumps and the remaining head, so his magic eye only showed up futures of him dying, and he had to pay attention to find an opening It also happened with Orsted, whenever Rudeus is going to die the eye overloads and then shows nothing
Side note that'll likely never get covered, Paul telling Rudy to save his mother goes back to his own childhood where he lost his mother young, and had regrets about not doing enough with/for her. He didn't want Rudy to have the same regrets.
Geese's role was to stay within range of the teleporter and if the party gets wiped out report back to the guild + lillia and crew. He has no battle aura and no magic so would be more of a liability in the actual fight.
I still think trying to save Zenith was better than living with the regret of not going. He traded his dad and an arm for his mom and Roxy's life. Norn would always probably resent Rudy for not going. I know the teleporters are a seceret, but I still think it would've been epic if Rudy showed up with Zoldat and his crew. I guess I'll never see Paul, Zoldat, and Rudy laugh over some pervy joke.
anime didn't convey the "freeze" vs the hydra part good at all. rudy was using his demon eye from the get go. he was way too focused on his eye and at that point the hydra was going ham moving the tail, all of its stumps etc... and rudy simply got overwhelmed from tunnel visioning into his foresight and he froze. about the regret thing... he went , gave it his all, saved roxy and zenith but lost the left arm(hand, which btw he named Heracles) and his dad. if he didn't go i believe the regret would be SO MUCH BIGGER. Roxy would be dead, nobody would be able to find her, let alone save her. Paul was hellbent on finding Zenith, the group would still be by his side trying to help find Zenith and they would eventually all get wiped somewhere between the 4th or 5th stratum. Rudy would be kicking himself and blaming himself till the end of days knowing he could help them and he didn't bother. so pick your poison between a) lose your left hand and your dad dies or b) Your Dad dies, Roxy dies, Elinalise (who mind you went there for your sake) dies, Geese dies(who helped with you and your dad getting back in good terms), Talhand dies(ok he doesnt know him) and Zenith is still gone. oh, also you waaaaaaaaaaay underestimate how high Rudy is holding Roxy. He is not "playing" the god thingy, he is literally ACTUALLY praying to her. She saved his life first. She treated his trauma, she taught him to go out in the world and she taught him magic. She was the catalyst for everything that Rudy became up to the Orsted and Eris part. He most likely feels like he owes her everything.
In the LN, Rudy doesn't just freeze, the Hydra starts targeting him and using it's headless necks as whips so he is in bigger danger towards the end of the fight, Paul only shoves him once, not twice.
So the anime didnt show it properly, but Rudy wasnt frozen or anything. He was trying to see what the Hydra's next actions were gonna be with his Demon Eye but the Hydra moved faster than he could register.
Nah rudeus cares way more about Roxy than his parents. Roxy's death would've hit him hard. You see how he almost went into a panic attack when they mentioned Roxy was missing. However, he can calmly handle not knowing whether or not his mom is alive. He looks at his parents more as distant friends he hasn't spoken to in a while.
The regret is when if he goes he loses paul, but when he doesnt go instead of paul he loses roxy so its just a lose lose situation no matter what he chooses. Its just a matter of who he wants to save between the two
After seeing all these Paul's death flag the past weeks, i didn't want to believe them, even seeing this episodes i was praying with all my heart "please don't be that kind of anime, pls be a different anime that dont follow generic death flags" i was hopping for the mission to be over, rescue his mom and all of them comeback for the born of Rudy's son... The most painfull day in a long time
y'all wanna hear something crazy? this ep released on 23:00 during father's day and just 1 hour later it's eid (a muslim holiday about father, son, and sacrifice).....this kind of timing is CRAZY
People need to know something and cut Rudy some slack. Rudy couldn't keep up, not mentally, but physically. He doesn't have Battle Aura. The ability to manipulate mana throughout the body. (this hasn't been explained in the anime) Its invisible to the eye, but enhances your strength and reflexes. Fighting without it is like playing a game with input lag. His demon eye closes that gap slightly, but he isn't physically capable of dodging the Hydra's attacks. In return though he has an abundant pool of mana. This was by no means Rudy's fault. Even if you can see an attack coming, it doesn't matter if you can't dodge it. The hydra went off script at around 10% HP. It's headless limbs began attacking everyone including Rudy. Which left Elise preoccupied, and Talhand left to defend Roxy. They had to block it because the scales were as sharp as blades. This left the main last head free to attack Rudy. (Remember, he needed to be point blank to hit it with magic.) If you are incapable of doing something, is that your fault? If you, a normal human were in that scenario, (keep in mind rudy only has the muscles he's built and normal reflexes) would you be able to get out of the way? People now are mistakenly referring to Rudy as a glass cannon. This is not true. By definition, a glass cannon is all firepower with little to no defense. Rudy has impeccable defensive earth magic and control magic with quagmire (giggidy). Rudy would most likely win in a 1v1 in a lot of battles. This was different. He was placed in a situation where he was forced to be defenseless and rely on allies to cover him. The hydra was just too fast. Everyone was caught off guard by its intelligence. Did you expect it to rip off its own neck to regrow heads, or to use its dead limbs as sharp blunt weapons? Probably not, but still the situation was simply unlucky. Rudy was in his worst element. Close range. A knife is still more effective against an undrawn firearm within 25 feet.
just an additional note that was skipped, Paul didn't say to Rudeus 'even if it kills you' only for resolve. Paul lost his mothr and has been hauntd by not being able to save her for his entire life. He doesn't want Rudeus to also experience that
The thing is, I think Paul was definitely happy to see his son was alive, but I think another part of him was happy to see Rudy cared about him, and a third part of him just wanted to be strong for his son in his final moments. Crazy how much can go into a simple smile.
Guys there’s a high chance that if Rudeus didn’t go. THEY WOULD ALL HAVE STILL DIED. He brought a book that helped them navigate that dungeon with minimal casualties, he found Roxy, AND he found the hidden room that the owner of the book didn’t find. When he read the book it said this is where he (the author)stops. Meaning that whoever wrote it, tried one of those three circles and never came back lol. They would have eventually done the same if he wasn’t there
At the very least, Roxy would most definitely be dead. She's the one that was on the brink of death while the rest would be still stumbling around random portals.
for what its worth, if he didnt go, paul probably wouldve died losing his mind searching the labyrinth, roxy wouldve died, and his mom wouldve stayed lost in the crystal forever. By going, he only lost his father.
@yaboyroshi in the Light novel the reason Rudy freezes is because he hears/sees the hydra is about to swing its severed heads around and before that happened it let out a high pitched cry.
11:04 well Roxy would've died, Zenith would still be trapped, and Paul would have gotten very very depressed, desperate and possibly die trying to save Zenith. Without Rudy they couldn't reach her to begin with and since Paul wouldn't give up on his wife he would have died trying to get to her. Just a theory but it makes sense imo
For people who are wanting to know what would have happened if Rudeus didn't go to Begaritt Continent, slight spoilers of course: The "regret" of course is that Rudeus ended up losing his arm and Paul dying. If Rudeus didn't ended up going Geese was gonna encounter an adventurer that had information about the labyrinth (much like the book Rudeus brought and had), and the party with some experienced adventures were gonna go recuse Roxy which was what happened. Roxy would have been found and rescued even when Rudeus wasn't here but the main change is that Rudeus would have not reunited with Roxy within the Labyrinth. Since Paul didn't end up having Rudeus going down the dungeon with him he wouldn't have died because he was essentially trying to "show off" with his experience of the dungeon. With Rudeus not being there the rescue was successful and Paul reuniting with Zenith happened (though Zenith regardless would have been in the vegetable state she is in). I'm leaving some stuff out because the rest is heavy light novel spoilers.
Saying she's mute and not a "vegetable" isn't really a spoiler. It's people own fault for being quick to label her a "vegetable" because she can't talk. Her brain is fine and all her other senses.

@@tbphillips9649i mean yeah they openly did it for that reason. They said there was no production issues
Anyone asking if this is true. It is, in the LN it showcases how his demon eye was overflowing Rudeus with information.
Not to mention that one would never expect to see the attack of a decapitated head come out of nowhere, at all times the hydra's necks remained without reacting like that until those moments when it decided to attack Rudy directly.
Plus its his first dungeon and he's doing CQC with it as well
@@kabosuiEven if it wasn't for that, the first time it was falling debris that he couldn't have braced for, then it was that the necks started attacking and even nearly killed Roxy
The whole situation was chaos and Rudy was constantly in immediate danger, because Paul insisted that they press on despite Geese saying they should head back and regroup, they definitely could have.

Yes
The studio released the episode where Rudy was announced to have a child on mother's day
And likely decided skipped a week just so they could release this episode on Father's Day
We might just be witnessing a Goated studio at trolling
Shitposters first
Anime studio second
The biggest trolling they did is making the God-tier season one, and then taking away most of the staff that made season 1 great and putting them into other projects like Onimai or Idolmaster.
wasnt on purpose
That would be surprising if that was the actual reason they skipped a week.
I think releasing it on Father's Day was a happy coincidence. It wouldn't surprise me if the reason they delayed it was to get the animation looking like it did. This episode looked amazing and would have been worked on for a while to get as much across as they did.
The LN explains that Rudy saw a multi vision with Hydra going crazy and he couldn't comprehend it so he froze. Leave goat Rudy alone

@@chrislewis7006nah, he a goat
Nah he ain't. Orsted is the only GOAT in this show@@Enryu_uyrnE
Just because the LN explained it, doesn't justify that the anime made it look weird when Rudy froze all of the sudden. The anime has the job of conveying all the information that the viewer needs to understand what's going on.
Omg that makes so much sense. Hopefully they put that in the next episode
I can't fathome the emotinal fortitude. Only love can give you such strength.
@@HiddenStr3ngth awesome my ass bro, she is the one I hate most in the show.

The person who decided to release this episode on Father’s Day definitely has dad issues.

@@tbphillips9649That makes it more believable 😳.
i mean it's perfect sense because paul action represented responsibility as a father so it corelated it just sad because the follow up paul is split in half like gojo
I actually thought that it was just coincidence, but then I searched and apparently, Father's Day is also big in Japan. So yep now I believe that the fuckers in the studio really delayed the episode so that it'd air during Father's Day.
9:04 i saw somebody say that in the light novel it was explained that the headless hydra parts were fucking with Rudy's future sight so he couldn't see when and where the actual attack came in
Yeah, apparently, when it got down to one head it started flailing both it's head and it's stumps really violently, which it had never done before, so the afterimages from Rudy's future sight covered his entire vision and he got stunned from the what the fuckery of what he was seeing, I wish the anime actually portrayed it
I think it is more like the hydra started going crazy in his future sight and he didn't realize why until wayyy later.

TL;DR the hydra was too big for Rudy to decipher it's next move when it was up close
Sound like the average experience when fighting a huge enemy in souls game lol
Honestly, I haven't read the LN, but from context, I assumed he spent an absolutely INSANE amount of mana blocking that breath attack, so he didn't have much left to fuel his Eye, and while he's in waaaaay better shape than he once was, I just figured he couldn't react fast enough without that advantage.

I like to think that this was his peak, he is more experienced and mature than ever, he also was around 35 years old and has his Magic sword

Others already mentioned why Rudy froze, but another little detail is shortly right after when Rudy sticks his arm in the eye of the hydra, he does that because he’s triggered by his ptsd of Orsted who has the same pupils.
I caught that as well, at first I was confused about him tripping out at the close up of the hydra.
@@betuna9487Well frankly, most people would.
+first time he had to be this close to the frontlines as a mage
Paul = became just "GO/"
Zenith = cascad
Rudy = gutsed
Damn
Nah, the first one is the other way around. Gojo got pauled, since paul's death happened in 2013 in the web novel, so that was way before jjk even existed.
Thanks for spoiling jjk for roshi since he dont read
So true😂😂
Paul got half caesared
"On Father's Day, I'm proud to give my life for my son"
-Paul
11:28 I saw this explanation from another comment section and wanted to put it here so here it is
“If you notice Rudy was being saved left and right throughout this entire fight by either Elinalise or Paul, he just couldn't keep up with those two with superhuman strength.
@@gil749 well the other thing is not wrong either, he was being saved a lot.

Paul wasn't the greatest father ever however he was exactly what Rudy needed to become a better person and live life to the fullest
According to the novel, Rudy saw (with his demon eye) the Hydra do something. It was going to fling its severed necks around like a whip. He saw but couldn't react to it quick enough and Paul had to kick him away.
Here it is word for word:
It was then, just as I was using my magic to cauterize the second to last stump, that the hydra’s body trembled. I didn’t know what that movement meant. I could see it with my Eye of Foresight, but I didn’t understand it. The creature was too big.
“You moron!”
“Wait-!” Before I realized what was happening, Paul had slammed me out of the way.
“Ruuudyyyyy!”
Paul screamed, driving his foot into me to kick me out of the way. Almost simultaneously, a thud resounded as something smashed to the ground right where I’d been a moment ago, in the once-empty space that had existed between Paul and me.

Lupas cut is sharp as hellll did geometry in ur head boy damn
The fact that this episode came out on Father’s Day is crazy.
Also the reason why Geese aint fighting is because he'd just be in the way, so he'll just support from time to time, its explained in the novel, but anime cuts info
Had me staring up at the ceiling for a solid 5 minutes after it ended
same lmao
just gotta love the anime that hits you so hard on some episodes that it got you thinking about it when you're supposed to be sleeping
MT is one of the very few that accomplishes this for me...
That they dropped this episode on farther day was diabolical. At least Paul died smiling knowing his son was safe
Some fun fact, cut content and insight from the novel:
-In the start of the season he named his arms Hulk and Hercules.
The harder the target the sharper it gets
-Also the anime has never once mentioned touki (translated as battle aura), which is basically people subconsciously wrapping themselves in mana, giving them superhuman capabilities, like how Paul and Elinalise can move so fast and jump so fucking high.
-"Save your mother, even if it kills you!"
Paul isn't saying that just to Rudeus.
That last part adds a lot more context to why Paul was always mad and confused at Rudy's attitude toward Zenith
It’s rough because if Rudy didn’t go then Roxy would have died but if he didn’t his dad survives… Impossible decision considering how much both mean to him
Indeed impossible for any human
Now I'm wishing his dad said he wanted to say before they went in😔
"Save your mom even if it kills you" only for him to be killed
Nah they popped off with this fight. You can feel the tension knowing anyone could get clapped any second. RIP the goat Pa/ul
Fun fact the only reason Paul was able to cut the heads off was because his short sword has a skill on it which get sharper the harder the thing he cutting is.the hydra scales are like diamonds or harder then that I forget.Kinda weird they didn’t cover that here
Delaying the ep and releasing it on Father’s Day is wild😭was a great episode
That episode felt like the real Turning Point 3. Sad to see Paul go, but at least he was able to go out in a blaze of glory. The animation on him blitzing that hydra was incredible, we've known he was a solid swordsman most of the series but he was going nuts. Not to mention his VA was absolutely KILLING it; from the screams of anger, to the somber moments with Rudy, and just the sound of pain in his voice after they had to bail from the labyrinth the first time. Took them almost the whole season but this episode was straight fire.
13:28 Speech doesn't go away after you loose your hearing. Deaf people that can't speak were usually born deaf.
This series does a good job at building you up with happy moments just to immediately tear you back to despair with some of the most depressing shit
Yo did they pull a Casca on Zenith ? That's going to be tough for Rudy lost your dad, your arm and now mom is in this mental state. All his missing now is a mechanical arm, losing one of his eyes and great sword and he's the new generation Guts.
Oh just you wait till turning point 4😂. I won’t spoil, but if one thing didn’t happen, you would be 100% correct
A fellow berserk enjoyer 👍
At least she wasnt, ya know. She was mostly fridged during that time.
When is that happening?@@Enryu_uyrnE
@@Bionickpunk She was naked for some reason though.
The Hydra is a perv.
This episode legit left me shocked , in pain, and at a lost for words. Legit haven’t felt like this in years over an episode 😭!
I knew it was coming, but i didn't expect to see paul die without saying anything, just a fainting smile of a man that managed to protect his son and was proud of it😢
And just like Paul said before, he wasn't the best father at first, and he wasn't the smartest, but even still, he did what he could to improve his life and be a better person and a father, so for someone like me who had a similar situation with mi own father who sadly passed away months before i got the news, not being able to know his final thoughts, it is something that hits hard in the end
Happy Father’s Day to the G.O.A.T Paul
So at 9:38, I've read somewhere that Rudy didn't actually freeze, but the Hydra was about to attack randomly, thus leading his demon eye to basically show a lot of the hydra movements which rudy didn't understand/couldn't understand. He basically wasn't understanding what was going on
It was a mixture of the hydra tactic to isolate Rudy, the limitations of the eye of foresight and his lack of battle aura
Turning Point 3 heard everyone talking shit about it and took it personally.
The reason Rudeus froze up wasn't clearly shown in the anime.
But in the LN thr Hydra pulled a little trick that confused him and caused him to froze up
Hello sadness, my old friend. The return of Rudy depression hours has commenced.
If rudy had a battle aura, at most Paul likely would’ve lost just his leg instead of his entire lower half
apparently they scheduled the episode to drop on fathers day
To answer Lupa's question about Rudeus freezing, basically one of the severed heads of the hydra went "off script" thrashing around, Rudeus couldn't process that information in time due to lack of experience which led him to freeze like that.
Yeah, even if they could make it that far to the hydra without Rudeus, they didn't have someone who could come close to what he did
They really shattered our expectations on both of his parents!
This just goes to show that Rudy is not a Gary Stu, he has flaws and thats what makes him a compelling character.
Man who decided to save this for father’s day is a genius
W father. Saved his son, waited until he confirmed his son is safe, dies. RIP Paul Greyrat.
Paul's last thoughts:
"Am I dying?"
"I want to confirm if Zenith was alive or not, at least."
"Not only that, but Norn and Aisha..."
"I wanted to see them again."
"Are they going to school?"
"Have they grown up?"
"Lillia - what kind of reaction will she have to this? Even if it's a pain..."
"Will she cry?"
"Dammit, I'm filled with regrets."
"I don't want to die..."
"Still... there are.. still... so many things I wanted to do."
Rudy: "Father!"
"But..... Oh well..."
"It's better than seeing Rudy die."
"Chin up, my son. Stay positive..." He smiles one final time
Is this from the novel?
@@rowletthejowlet6241 Its from the drama cd written by the author
Everyone forgets that if Rudy didn't show up to help his dad find his mom, Roxy would have totally got murked in that one bug room
They didnt mentioned but the reason why rudy was stun it was bc he didnt understand the hydra movement (with the eye that can see 2 seconds in the future)
They knew what they were doing this season. This on Father’s Day and the pregnancy announcement on Mother’s Day
Zenith's expression was disfigured and she couldn't communicate, but from Zenith's point of view, she felt healthy and there was nothing wrong with that. I think it's the curse of the dungeon or the crystal
Rudeus froze because the hydra focused on killing him with all the stumps and the remaining head, so his magic eye only showed up futures of him dying, and he had to pay attention to find an opening
It also happened with Orsted, whenever Rudeus is going to die the eye overloads and then shows nothing
Rudy would be kicking himself and blaming himself till the end of days knowing he could help them and he didn't bother.
so pick your poison between
a) lose your left hand and your dad dies
or
b) Your Dad dies, Roxy dies, Elinalise (who mind you went there for your sake) dies, Geese dies(who helped with you and your dad getting back in good terms), Talhand dies(ok he doesnt know him) and Zenith is still gone.
oh, also you waaaaaaaaaaay underestimate how high Rudy is holding Roxy.
Paul getting sliced in half off-screen
Gojo be like: your first mine too
Can you delete/edit to mark spoiler this to not spoil others, and possibility Roshi himself.... annoying af
Save your mother even if it kills you (and i will save you even if it kills me)
-Paul Greyrat
(Remember, he needed to be point blank to hit it with magic.)
If you are incapable of doing something, is that your fault?
For people who are wanting to know what would have happened if Rudeus didn't go to Begaritt Continent, slight spoilers of course:
The "regret" of course is that Rudeus ended up losing his arm and Paul dying.
