Bought my 9xr as my transition radio before getting a taranis. But I stuck with stock 9xr software. Now I am learning open tx, since getting the taranis Thanks for posting these videos

      That's exactly what I did. Only problem...once I got the Taranis, I haven't touched the 9XR!

Cheers. Trying to reconfigure as a backup to Taranis. Flashed ok but the limits are unusable. Wont go below 1200 throttle and mid is at 2000 on roll and throttle. Gave up tonight. Thanks for the vid.

From these reviews it sounds like folks prefer the Taranis over the 9xr.

On the Preferences screen wherre you select the FIRMWARE, since this is the 9xr radio, do we select the openTX for 9XR? Wondering what you selected. Thanks!

The only real advantage this radio has over the 9x is the atmega128 vs the atmega64 chip (more memory). Connector for firmware update? 75 cents. Backlighting? 5 bucks. Then the 9X at least comes with a module, battery holder, and receiver. Not to mention it's less cheap and plasticky. Also... once you've already soldered your cables for flashing... it's easy to add another, even larger, atmega chip. I'd probably just run a small button to switch between the two. Cost of the atmega 128? 8 bucks.

Being a Spektrum owner, do you know if the 9RX with Open TX is able to control a airplane with Spektrum's Safe technology?

I wish I could figure out how to get my 3way assigned to ch5, no manual on my naza for now. Bought it with telemetry mod very cool firmware just confusing.

so once you use this and new firmware get 16 channels, how do you receive anything above 8 as no one sells a 16ch rx ???

Just FYI, I think I know why you were getting the throttle error. I saw on the companion9x setup screen where you selected mode 2; just to the right was a drop down down for channel order. It was set with throttle on the right stick. I'm guessing that also needed changed.

Jason Freeman Channel order has nothing to do with stick inputs. Mode defines the physical stick arrangement, and channel order defines default channel order on the output. That can be whatever you want, so long as it is compatible with your receiver/servo connections. So, selecting the proper mode is all was needed to clear the throttle idle error. I think the next video talks more about the channel assignments, because I had to change the model channel order to match spektrum RX (TAER) which is non-configurable. Dude, good video, but if you know it washes out when you zoom in and you can't see what you're doing... then why do you keep doing it??? The battery calibration was important and I couldn't see what you did because you zoomed in AGAIN.

Just want to tell you that I've uploaded a quick guide on the HK site. Just go to the files section for the the 9XR and at the moment mine is the last file. Tell me what you think.

useful video. however when you measured the battery voltage with a multimeter shouldn't you have had had it still attached to the 9XR and had the 9Xr turned on. A battery doesn't give a true reading unless it's under load

I had some trouble with the latest avrdude and mac. Mavericks apparently removed some of the dependencies. Install Homebrew (brew.sh/) then `brew install avrdude --with-usb`
