- This is a follow up to our "9x DIY Upgrade Kit" install video. It covers everything you need to successfully update the firmware on your 9x radio following the hardware install covered in first video. In addition, this video also shows you how to install sample models and calibrate your radio.

Mine is up and running now.
I removed the comment left previously as soon as I found out it was incorrect. You DO NOT NEED a mini USB connect with 5 pins, just the ordinary plain jane one you use for your cameras, etc. Mine worked just fine after I found the real culprit to down loading their program - everything was sandboxed in my security center. After over riding, everything worked great!
Andrzei, as far as I know all you need is a USB cable to connect the Smartieparts board to your computer. The Smartieparts board IS a programming board - the one at HobbyKing (which I also can't find now) is probably the same sort of thing.

The USB cable for a SmartieParts board is your standard mini USB cable.

If you are asking if the FrSKY DJT Tx module works with the 9x, yes - it works great.
assumed knowledge again - your 'support' section only give two areas, contact us, and 'return policy' - so I'll keep looking!
Yes, the FrSKY JR module (aka DJT) works well with the er9x firmware.
Hmmm... things seem to be always changing, but this is weird. This may not apply, but er9x and Open9x versions of the firmware are quite different these days. If using er9x stick with eePe, and use Companion9x (eePe off-shoot) for Open9x. Be sure the use the latest version of either. I just downloaded and tried eePe/er9x and it worked. Also check if trying to upload the eeProm or firmware and check the "File Types" setting in the dialog box where you see the hex file greyed.
great job, use frsky in my Sky fly 9X will it work with it and be OK?
Yes it does. The Turnigy 9x and FlySky TH9x are virtually the same radio, both manufactured by FlySky.
Hi, I did the upgrade tested with both openTX and ER9x, but unfortunately the fsTH9x cannot bind to its receiver anymore. I had to get FS i6 now. Can you please provide some info on this. What happened with the upgrade that receiver is not able to bind to TH9x. And, I am INdian so basically my products are mostly non EU. Some discussions said non EU compatibility issue. Couls you please suggest something. My FSTH9x is alive but behaves dead without receiver. Advance Thanks
I'm using the Smartiparts conversion. Do I need some sort of circuit board (programming device ?) between the USB cable and my PC ? Or is it just a plain USB cable with that plug on the other end that suits the Smartipants Tx socket in the battery bay ? I've seen a programming card or something (that I can't find now) on Hobbyking. What's that about ?

1) the benefit of upgrading from default firmware of this Turnigy 9Rx Radio to er9x firmware? I am almost ready to buy this Turnigy 9Rx Radio but want to clarify the need for this upgrade.
I want buy Turnigy radio because with my existing radio "Spectrum 6Xi", I can not achieve multiple mixing without adding many "V-Tail" mixers, specially when I want to do Elevon+Aileron mixing.
2) Why do we need to upgrade the module, like to Frsky or any other brand? What is wrong with the one it comes with?
witch would you choose a Turnigy 9x Transmitter with Open TX firmware or a new radiolink at 9 or 10. any help would be great. Thank You for your time..
I have the frsky JR module in my Sky Fly 9X, will this work with your up graded system?

so once you use this and new firmware get 16 channels, how do you receive anything above 8 as no one sells a 16ch rx ???
Can you tell me if the T6 can be upgraded? I have firmware ver. 2.1A 11-Apr-2013. i saw a RUclips with a later version..2.2 - May 2013 which fixes the problem of alieron mixing for my delta wing...

if your getting the AVRDUDE FAILED MESSAGE and you are using a windows pc, then you will need the drivers for this to work. you can get these drvivers directly from the smartie parts home page... DRIVERS will be highlighted in the top page....
hi bro, currently i have t9x radio and frsky tx module + FrSky D8R-II PLUS 2.4Ghz 8CH Receiver with Telemetery. is it my telemetry function will work on the radio if i follow 100% all the step on this video?
how to make the telemetry function working? only flash the radio firmware or modify the turnigy radio hardware board? Other things make me confused is to download the er9x.hex file. which one will i have to download?

When is the USBasp AVR programming device needed ?
There is a way to modify the hardware of your radio to support FrSKY telemetry, but flashing the firmware will not automatically do this. You can find instructions by searching "9x frsky telemetry mod". Get the normal "ER9X" flavor. After you've done the telemetry mod, get "ER9x-FRSKY".

I'm sorry you found it confusing. Uploading and downloading are often incorrectly interchanged. I'm guilty as charged. Often in this hobby, I have found it valuable to not get hung up on the specific details of RUclips how-to videos, but focus on the bigger picture/concept of what is trying to be achieved.
I agree, there are myriad sites which are more suitable venues for you to practice your English.
