In past interviews, he has mentioned that Mastodon-like many US acts-keep a UK/European backline stored on this side of the pond. Makes sense, as freighting gear is incredibly expensive. It may be that his older Gibsons make up a larger part of his 'B rig'.
That Gibson is just for doing ads for the amps. However Bill always plays Gibsons. And ESPs. And I love them both… his ESP double cutaway silver burst is just perfect
I would love to see the entire new album performed live by the band in a studio setting. I can’t really listen to Mastodon when I’m at work, working out, or driving (the main times when I listen to music). They are a “sit and pay attention to what they are playing” kind of band for me. And the concert clips I see online don’t have the sound quality worthy of the songs.
something he says at the end is very familiar to me, "it has just something about it, it sounds great", it is hard to explain, better not to try too much, it has just something, for me it feels like the strings are burning, especially when you hit hard, they are in flames you just feel it! maybe that is the Marshall thing, not just hearing it, more like feeling it.
This is just the Gibson they had in the Marshall room. That being said-Bill still plays Gibsons a lot live. It’s not the guitars he hated, the company was just very obviously in the wrong hands at that point and didn’t treat artists like they should have unless you were slash or angus young, etc., not to mention the products just were not great. NOW they have done a complete turnaround and are really taking care of their artists ESPECIALLY in the rock and metal scene and the products have actually been quite killer. I honestly hope Bill and Brent go back and get the treatment and signatures that they deserved but who knows at this point if they have any interest.
@@randymiles904 I’ve actually got alerts set up to try and find one for me that isn’t super expensive! It looks beautiful but I’m always on the fence because I already have two single cuts and my wife will probably kill me 😂
Sounds really 👍. Then again i’d probably like his playing through a Spider… Also the people commenting on him playing a Gibson: maybe watch some more vids on this channel and you might recognize the guitar…. No need to bring that ESP custom dc everywhere.
I imagine the Gibson is what they had in the Marshall booth. Maybe I’m wrong but that flame top looks pretty blues lawyer, I wouldn’t think that’s a stage played guitar.
Yeah, what gives? He sounded like he was done-done with Gibson. I guess if he already owns the guitar he might as well play it. I imagine ESP won't be pleased with the optics of this clip.
The guy plays everything… Helix, Kemper, Friedman, Marshall. I don’t think he cares what he’s playing through as long as it sounds like he wants it to sound… like how it should be. If you got a Friedman, because he’s playing it, you’re doing it wrong (not really 😁). However, if you got a Friedman because it has an awesome sound, you do have an amp that can serve for years and you’ll find new appreciation with different phases in your playing career (or… which is also possible it doesn’t do it for you)….. But I get players that are influenced by seeing their hero play specific gear. In 1995 I got a Dual Recto because I wanted the Vernon Reid Stain rhythm sound… (and I still have it, and I think I actually even prefer it over the Bogner XTC’s I bought later… like I said if you don’t sell the gear you might find new appreciation for it)
This is the kind of advertising that works on me. I'm always up for Mastodon videos.
Same. Show me Bill and Mastodon, and then take my money.

I was standing staring at the world!
2:44 that’s part of the intro to Hearts Alive. They haven’t played that song live in like a decade.

Ahh the Marshall room was backstage at hellfest too and I forgot to go back after sound check!! Wanted to try the 800 and jubilee.

truly a man of infinite patience and forgiveness, as evidenced by the Gibson logo on his headstock despite how dirty they did him and other artists.

Playing a Les Paul through a Marshall while endorsed by Esp and Friedmann 😃.
Some backstage footage with a studio silver jubilee would be nice to see.
