    Yes, the area of Sukhumvit from Phromphong (Emquartier, Emporium) to Thonglor is considered Japan town of Bangkok. A lot of Japanese expatriates live around this area.

      Very Interesting! Makes sense with so many Japanese restaurants/stores.

    Thonglor is the area that Japanese businessmen and families stayed. It is related to Thai economic development and capital flows. A lot of facilities are developed in this area making it convenient for big spenders. Therefore, it draws wealthy families to stay in this area. As long as you are willing to pay, you can get almost anything from all over the world.

    There are a lot of somtam in Thailand. They are divided into 2 large groups.
    1 Somtam with fermented fish ส้มตำปลาร้า, spicy to very spicy taste (Most Thai people like to eat (But foreigners don't like it because of the strong smell.) You can add a variety of ingredients, such as papaya, thin noodles, shrimp, pork sausage, squid, shellfish, crab,cucumber.
    2 Thai Somtam ส้มตำไทย (without fermented fish) Most foreigners like to eat this way. It has a sweet, sour, salty and not spicy taste. Many ingredients can be added as well, such as papaya, corn, salted eggs, various fruits, strawberries, apples etc.

    I've noticed that you didn't try salted egg inside Som-Tam. I'd like to present a tip.
    For me, I don't like the white part of salted egg, so I take out only the yellow part with spoon. Because the yellow part of salted egg is more delicious than the white part, it's too salted.
    Then, crushing the yellow egg by using the spoon bottom, crush it until it's melted and mixed with Som-Tam's sauce perfectly. Then, I guarantee that you will love the taste of Som-Tam with salted egg, like me. 🙂
    Only a few restaurants readily crunch salted egg inside the mortar to serve, unless you must tell them to do it.

    The Japanese area tends to stretch from Thong Lor to Ekkamai. There's a lot of high end clubs around Soi 10, at night there are a lot of exotic cars going up and down the street and in the car parks. Pretty much any item imported to Thailand is subject to huge custom taxes, so an exotic car in Thailand is probably 2-4 times that in Europe/USA, food and beer too. I don't know if you noticed that local beer is way cheaper than foreign imported beer. I think when you saw the cost of imported cereal, that gave you a big hint! The celebrities tend to live in the condos towards the middle and top end of the street going towards the canals. I seen celebrities typically walking around the clothing boutiques or at the commons.

    • @ChovyTravel
      @ChovyTravel  Месяц назад

      Oh wow 😮 that’s expensive!! Yes, we noticed local beers and cereals are so much cheaper than imported ones. The celebrities who live in Thonglor, are they mostly Thai celebrities? I think I heard some are from Japan?!

    • @guamie
      @guamie Месяц назад

      @@ChovyTravel Mostly Thai celebrities (actors, actresses, models) and those from hi-so backgrounds, often have a large condo in the city and maybe a large house further out. Some people may use the generic term Thong Lor to cover the area between Thong Lor to Ekkamai. Thong Lor is I guess considered the Beverly Hills of Bangkok. The Ekkamai area/side was originally the area that was most popular with Japanese expats. Hence the large Japanese influence with the stores in Gateway and the first Don Donki store in Thailand.

There are two large department stores next to each other, Seacon Square and Paradise Park, as well as a large night market named Rodfai night market (the meaning of Rodfai is train). Seeing more real greenery and shrubs being planted on taller buildings in Thailand is amazing, particularly in Bangkok, as the capital city is quite highly toxic throughout certain months of the year. Therefore, they will need more green space per head capita to clamp down on the poisonous dust.
    We understand that this is the biggest growing problem in Southeast Asia countries from the burning seasons.
    Thailand is growing fast in terms of infrastructures and has certainly become very internationally-cosmopolitan. Inevitably speaking, Thailand is out of this world with their tourism capabilities sector as well as their innovation in delivering delicious culinary options and of course their beautiful culture as a country.
    Though Now = the residing population in the city really do needs better clean air to breathe rather than investment for more tall buildings. - And yes, you are right, not-thing beat the Thai original somtum, Thai style BBq chicken and sticky rice. Now you are talking, 😅😊❤ This is also our go to snacks.
    Have you try Thai authentic desert like kanom-touiy / pairing steamed up in a a little sauce bowl 🍚, or kanom-sodsai wraps inside a banana leaf. Both are coconut based and taste absolutely divine in texture balance and decadence, especially when serving lukewarm.
    Love watching you guys trying out different food in Thailand❤

    There is an event OTOP mid-year exhibition at Impact Challenger Hall 1-3, Muang Thong Thani. Unfortunately, tomorrow 16 Sunday is last day of the event.
    Easier ride of BTS Eakkamai (E7 Green Line) single trip to Muang Thong Thani (PK10 Pink Line), still you must change the line at (PK16) Wat Phra Sri Mahatat.
    The tricky is you need to find a taxi to get to the exhibition hall and on your way back to train station, those taxi maybe difficult to find due to many ppl make sure that driver use meter not 300 baht or something else. Travel by BTS is best way to avoid traffic congestion.

    At the Chester, I usually prefer to order (Spicy) Grilled Chicken (which they are really good) than the Fried Chicken which I can order at the other fast food shops.

    If y'all havent had Pizza Compan then I recommend. It''s Thailands local Pizza Chain and by far the most popular and its something I really miss back home. Its not super gourmet or anything, but it is miles better than any of the chains I've had in Europe.
    Somtam needs to be paired with sticky rice and chicken haha! It's such a good combo

    • @guamie
      @guamie Месяц назад

      I thought Pizza Company was meh. The owner used to own Pizza Hut franchises, but due to some disagreement about other franchise brand ownership, he chose to close the Pizza Huts and opened Pizza Company. The other main chain is Dominos and obviously some niche stores.

      @@guamie Perhaps its just my nostalgia of what I always ate growing up. Particularly, I really love the Tom Yum pizza they have. I haven't lived in Thailand for almost 5 years now so things have definitely changed but Pizza Company holds a place in my heart. Perhaps it's just the EU quality, but the pizza here is incredibly average at best and also extremely pricey.

      @@AEVEROFC I think people just have different tastes, and the companies tend to cater for the local consumer. I know in Asia, they use different flour, cheese, etc. Asian bread is heavily bleached and sweetened, I just couldn't eat the bread in Singapore, Thailand and Hong Kong.
