Watch and love both Dead Dodge Garage and Rocket Restorations. Thanks guys. My dad had the 1963 Polara 500 383 Four Barrel and he also had the 1964 Polara 500 383 four barrel. I remember them quite well they both ran pretty hard.
In 1967, my senior year of HS, I took my hard earned life savings of $1500 and bough a 64 Plymouth Belvedere with a 426 Max Wedge. Blue 2 door hardtop, with the big iron 4 speed, Doug headers through the fender wells, Lakewood blow up proof bellhousing. Previous owner had turned high 11's at Fremont (Calif.) drag strip. It was FAST! It got BAD mileage on Custom Supreme 103 octane gas that cost a whopping 39.9 per gallon. Didn't care! A few months later, one January morning it was quite cold, and as you noted these engines are very cold blooded anyway, as it fired up it back or mis fired and blew a con rod right out the side of the block! I almost cried. That was the end of that engine in that car. I bought a HiPo 383 out a 63 Dodge for $250, dropped that in, and still ate Chevies for dinner! Kept all the parts and pieces of the Max Wedge, and sold to a collector in about 73 or 74 for $2500. Happy days.
I was at a car show in Michigan and saw 2 330 max wedge cars just like that one was a convertible and one was a hardtop both were in the same condition as the one in the video.
Super rare and super cool car! 13.5:1 compression! Dang. On the sign board....you'd think that someone who does those things for a living would have left the apostrophes out of the word "cars". Like several times. Oh well. Good stuff, Jamie. Thanks for bringing us this awesome Mopar. Which I can't believe has a 3-speed manual! Crazy!
Awesome car - surprised this is your first in the flesh max sighting. There are a number of them here in the NE; maybe not HC cars, but they are around. Old guy story: I grew up a block away from the local Dodge dealer (‘Dodge since 1918” and still being sold out of the same building) and eight year old me spotted out in front the first brand new car that stole my heart - a red ‘62 Polara 500 2 door. Been MoPar or NoCar ever since. Hope to see you test drive this one
I'm not a Mopar guy but I still respect and enjoy the history, performance and your passion towards these cars. Okay, after hearing the engine run I like Mopar's now.
Good Day. Absolutely Stunning! I've loved these cars & engines since they were new and I was a kid of 11. Wonderful times for cars and they just kept getting better. Very rare car, thanks for sharing. The Borg Warner T85 was used by many makes during the 50's and 60's. Often times with an electric overdrive, not really designed for drag racing. Looking forward to the test drive. Cheers! 😎👍🏎🏁🏁

If interested I listed my 1963 Polara 500 Stage ll Max Wedge real not a clone on Facebook with a torqueflite. It’s too rare to drive on the street, 1 of 5 11 to 1 compression cars made that year.
What an incredible car! Beautifully restored! Pretty cool its a three speed manual too. I'd love to take that for a rip with those deep gears. I bet it scoots!
Wow! That’s quite the find. I would imagine trying to get that car to hook up with those tires is laughable. My Dad had a new 1963 Plymouth 2 door sedan. It had the 3 speed torqueflite push button transmission. I had a lot of fun with that car. It was Hunter Green up in Ontario Canada.
That's the car we used to push out of the garage and coast it to the bottom of the hill and go race it every weekend in the summer time in the late 80's
The sound of that engine brings back memories (and smiles.) You can hear that 13.5:1 compression and that lumpy cam through those open cutouts. That is the sound of my youth (yes I am that old.) Modern cars may be more powerful and faster but they don't sound like that.

Those were some really bad ass cars in their day. Everyone remembers the "Little Old Lady From Pasadena". That would be someone's granny with a lead foot and a Super Stock Dodge, very similar to this one, except probably a 1964 since the song came out that year. Any car that gets a song in its honor is a cool, and usually very fast car.
Love the color, my late aunt had a ugly green 63 plain Jane commuter version. Was too young to remember much but the front end and dash were unforgettable. Funny how in 2024 I love this design but everyone including me hated it way back.
