So interesting, love seeing your gardens. The quick fire hydrangea is so pretty. I’d love to plant one but sadly it would be just expensive deer food. Thank you

Wow, it really is early spring up there. My daffodils, hyacinths, and crocus are in full bloom.

Do you landscape others yards? Or help to know what will work? I’m not familiar with all the plants and trees in the area of Bismark ND😬

I do occasional small projects. Perhaps I can help with your plant questions. Feel free to e-mail me at Kevin@gardenhike.com

Love the gardens you’ve created! I’m working on a kidney shaped island about 60’ in length. It needs to be drought tolerant. I’m concerned about how many large plants to use. The area to the south and east of the bed includes various very tall pines. I’m 13:25 thinking of using two columnar junipers, maybe Medora, Wichita Blue or Woodward. A couple of ground cover junipers and two or three juniper shrubs, 3 - 6’ high. Given there’s only two tall plants, can I add a multi-stem serviceberry tree or will it be too crowded? Your thoughts will be greatly appreciated!

From what you’ve described, I think you have plenty of room for a Serviceberry tree. You could also keep the lower branches on the serviceberry pruned up, allowing an understory plant to be planted somewhat close as an option. However, it will also depend on the serviceberry variety you plant, as they can range from 6 to 20 feet wide.

@@gardenhike very kind of you to take the time to answer my question. My nursery has multi-stem autumn brilliance available. We had snow today so work on the island is stopping for a while. I’m in northern Colorado, east of the Rockies, zone 5. We get less than 15” of rain here so I have to be careful choosing plants.
