I grew up in Rhode Island and we had it a couple of times a month. My Irish mother made it with Campbells tomato soup instead of tomato sauce. But definitely a childhood favorite. Thank you for making this video, good job sir!
I grew up in the Detroit area in the 60's and 70's and this is similar to what we called Goulash. My dad would used red a red and a green bell pepper in addition to celery and always had Paprika. Good eats on a cold Fall or Winter day!
This meal has and will always be my favorite, I’m Irish/ Polish from Worcester so growing up with this meal was the absolute best. AWESOME VIDEO!!!! can’t wait to see what you make next.
My mom made this but no peppers!! When i was in highschool in Massachusetts I was in Catholic School and the lunch ladies made this homemade as a matter of fact they were students moms and everything was homemade!! Best school lunches ever!
Don't know if you will see this but I must let you know. I made it, and 3:11 took your American Chop Suey to a family Christmas cookie decorating party. There was a huge amount of food. I thought I would come home with at least half a crock pot full. Kudos to you I came home with a clean pot. Not a crumb left. Thank you from Florida.
Stumbled upon this channel. My dad was a Boston Firefighters and we ate this all the time. I bet could cook this on my own as a kid, but I have never made it for my own kids. It's on the menu for tonight! Great video!
That’s awesome, hope it turned out great! Thanks again for your support, and by the way, I grew up in Boston, right in Hyde Park next to the fire station in that neighborhood.
Yep you are right "goulash" here too, definitely midwest South Central Iowa here. But ours was far from sweet! Smoked paprika and your favorite graded hard cheese in the end is my add on.
In upstate New York this dish, we called it ‘American Goulash’. My Mom would make a large batch and the dinner that night would be direct from the stove top. The remainder would go into a cassorole dish and into a 350 degree oven until the top was a bit browned. For my Grandfather, she would add a bit of hot sauce and stick small chunks of sharp cheddar in random spots. My job was to deliver it to Grandpa and after he re heated it, help him eat it. Never had any go to waste.
Very similar to what we in the mid-west call American Goulash. I think the only real difference is that we add 2-3 cups beef stock which makes it look more like a soup and then we add the noodles instead of cooking the elbows separately. I really like your recipe here where the noodles get undercooked separately. I'm going to try this recipe this weekend and look forward to trying it.
oh my goodness where do i begin…. i LOVED this recipe!!🎉❤❤ so easy and absolutely deliciousa 😂😂 the fam loved this SAVAGE MEAL as my kiddos say 😂😂😂keep doing what you do godfather 😇😇😇
This is a meal that brings back great memories. My father in law was from Springfield,Mass and was French Canadian and he absolutely loved this meal. My mother would make it a lot in the winter and it absolutely soothed the soul. I think I will start making it for my son’s third shift dinner. Thanks again Chris and Tina.
So gonna make this, it looks amazing. In the UK, if you put this in a baking dish and put grated cheese on top and then cook it in the oven, it’s what we call pasta bake.
My grandpop had this in school lunch and he loved it, so he started making it. We're part polish/german, this was a huge meal growing up. I make it hjere and there now, and it's so cheap to make and you can make a crap load with very little ingredients. We throw sweet corn in ours
This looks awesome. Born and raised in Georgia, we had something very similar as kids but cheddar cheese was mixed into the pot before serving. Mom called it chili mac!
My mother made this A LOT. It seemed like she just chopped everything up and tossed it into the pot, but we loved it! My grandmother(who lived with us) taught her how with depression era ingredients. We usually had enough for a few days. Then it was time for Jag then Beans on Sat. night and Sunday morning.
Thanks for keeping the videos coming! I tried to comment this on another of your videos, but you’re so well-spoken and genuine/don’t have the fake enthusiasm that so many RUclipsrs have!
My entire family's from the Boston area and this was my dad's go-to whenever he had to cook for me and my brother in the 90's. Moved to Vermont as a kid and nobody here has heard of it
Love you guys videos another amazing meal definitely going to have to try it heard of it but I’ve never had it. I’m originally from Long Island New York Montauk point now I live in Dallas Texas.
Hi Chris and Tina…I’m from CT and we love this dish!! We always called it goulash! More cheddar cheese please!!! LOL great video Chris, very well explained!!! You’re doing great!! How’s your mom? Tina… we love Cape Cod, haven’t been there in a long time! Maybe next year!! ❤
