Great videos! Giving me the confidence to setup my tank lol. Soooooo excited to have 250+ miles. I did go with natural because you can see the fuel line through the tank! Makes guessing how much you have much left easier (I hope)
Essential addition for serious adventure / even daily riding, this is good info. Best part of owning a dual-sport is having a beautiful place to enjoy it! I live in north Texas (originally fr AZ) and it's a long trip to motorcycle riding country.
in our part of the world the speed is tops 65...and we ride secondary roads which are 50....I get consistent 15.75 miles per liter x 23 liter tank = 330 miles on the klr at avg 55 mph...bump up to 65 and drop to 310 tops on the tank...crazy that a few MPH less and add a lot of distance. great content
@@precipiceofgrind I did it on my 2019 and it worked. You add air hose to the brackets under the tank. Causes a friction fit plus keeps the forward lobes from touching the oil cooler. I’m planning to do it on my new 2024. Most people buy DR650s more than once. I’m on my second and have no plan to sell this one. Good thing is the second time around you know what mods you want. 👍🏻
I still think it looks kind of ugly, but 250 mi on 1 tank of gas is pretty awesome. The color looks good, though, way better than the translucent version.
I'm ok with ugly. I'm more after functionality with this particular bike project and getting 300 miles out a tank without hitting the reserve is pretty good.
Thx for the video. I see you have no in-line fuel filters. Do you think the filters on the petcocks can do the job? Did you remove the filter from the carburetor?
@@precipiceofgrind I'm aking because I just installed this tank on mine with dual petcocks and can't seem to find a place for the filter. :) But thx anyway, I just hit the subscribe button.
I think I saw the petcocks pointed down in the video- did you switch them to forward to access the reserve pickup? My 6.6 holds over 7 gallons now, tank will expand over time.
Yeah, I've heard the tank will expand. Sweet. No, I didn't move to reserve. I was just focused on what I'd get out of the tank with both petcocks just in the on position.
@@precipiceofgrind Thanks for explaining. In another post, I was a little concerned with getting "only" 298 miles from a 6.6 gal tank. Now everything makes a lot more sense.
Any great video buddy. Ok so to clarify, your stock tank gave you what for mileage range? My stock bike gets 225kms or 140 miles in range. So double the range can be expected. Hummm, I think I’m sticking with the stock tank still as I really only go out for 1-2 hour rides.
Yeah there is something to be said about the ability to get a minimum of 250mi out of a single tank. Would solve some of my fuel anxiety that I get every now and then. lol
Thanks for making the video. Do you know how many actual gallons went in the tank? 298 miles seems low. If there were 6.6 gallons in the tank, then 298/6.6 = 45.15 mpg which seems low for mostly highway riding. Just a casual observation.
You may have mentioned it in a previous video, but what tires are you rocking on the DR650? Im looking to upgrade from the trail wings and I’ll be in similar terrain.
you didn't put the both petcocks in reserve, you leave them both on tne main tank (pointing down), when your bike start to act funny you can move move the petcocks pointing up (reserve) and you can add more miles (50 miles at least) without parking at the side of the road in a highway its very dangerous
The stock 13Lt tank holds 3Lt's in reserve in Australia. Would the Accerbis 30Lt big tank have still have had a small reserve when the bike run out at 298 miles?
How is the dr engine/gear ratios compared to the klr? I currently have a 3rd gen klr, and may want to add the dr to my collection. Do you think it could do great in slow singletracks? Or is it geared similar to the klr? I also have a TW200. Nice channel by the way 😊

Thank you for your videos. I really enjoy watching. I look forward to installing a 6.6 gallon on my DR650!
You're welcome! Appreciate you watching!
Getting a constant 52 mpg / 22km per litre. Have got 504 km with fuel remaining before refilling.
Amazing range. Definitely a worthy upgrade.

Look up air hose fix on Adventure rider DR thread. You can add cheap air hose on the brackets under the tank which prevents the wobble.
I remedied the situation by adding padding, did a video on it (which I'll post soon) but I'll check that out as well. Thanks for the heads up.

@@ronmoore1 Heard that! Congrats on your new DR650!
Great result! I am ready for fall as well - it’s hot here too! I’m thinking about hitting Moab this fall for some riding and climbing.
Moab sounds like a great plan for the Fall!
I’m getting 49.6 to a gallon on my 2018,
Shindy 140 main, factory pilot.
5-6,000 altitude. 🤘
45mpg not bad

@@precipiceofgrind Absolutely true.
You know how much it weighs wet?

Correct, I have to adjust some of the fuel tubing to fit a fuel filter in. Still have the filter in the carb. So far so good.

Yeah, for slow single track you'd probably want to do a sprocket change on the DR. Appreciate you watching!
That was till reserve on the tank and not till empty?
Correct. I just wanted to focus on what the tank could do without going into reserve.
