Nathalie... I just went through the majority of your channel. I love your work. Keep kicking ass. It inspires me to continue to work day in and day out.
Thank you. Beautifully put together. It also serves as a gentle reminder about the importance of savings. This movie resonates on a deeper being of being human. Good Luck
Just stumbled across your film, and I passionately felt the need to comment on the impressiveness of your work. Very beautiful narrative, incredibly well-executed cinematography to bring the words to life. Keep up the great work! Perhaps we could find a way to collaborate when I'm ever in the city!
This is amazing! It partly inspired my short documentary for my film class, though it's no where near as good. This is a truly beautiful piece and I'm looking forward to seeing your other stuff!
Dear Nathalie this is a great video! I came across your video by chance been watching lots of video's on homelessness. I live in transitional housing. I would love to visit New York BUT unfortunately it would be too expensive for me. Please keep making these video's.
In NYC they will fly you free of charge to another state as long you have family to stay with in that other state. Its the city's way to get rid of the homeless and this is a fact
wow. I'm no film industry professional, but to me you did a great job as a student. I loved your short doc and I hope your friend is now in a better position in life. Are you still in touch? What happened to him?
As a new yorker and a immigrant living in new york city for 15 years this is just a phase or you fight to get better or stay in there this is the rough city
I understand if he was working in retail it's not enough money to rent in NYC but he's creating his own situation by simply not going back home to wherever this family of his is. He's choosing this life when he has options he's just unwilling to take. Creating your own hardship isn't inspirational. Fixing it is.
I was really pulled into the world of your character. Please what's the name of the instrumentals playing in the background? Especially the one place at the middle of the video?
I watched this video many times and I like it every time more! I lived it and shared it with all my friends! That's great! What camera do you use to record all this? Love xox Paola
I know a guy, he started driving TAXI in NYC and making around $150-200 a day. or start working as a courier driver. Remember Travis, he was driving taxi and dating. WHY CANT YOU ?
E W I have been “homeless” off and on my entire adult life, for the most part living in my car. During this documentary I didn’t have a car to sleep in so I would sleep in bank lobbies or on grass. This lasted 9 months to a year
E W sure did! Found someone that was renting a spot in their living room first which sucked but these past few years I worked my way up to a beautiful house in the woods
@@MaikoNewell Yeah avoid the people that say you can stay with them, or they will rent you a room. I'm very happy for you, people really have no idea what its like.
I live in new york. and am poor.but I always thanks God make it here .just fight work never give up God will bless you vote for Donald trump make America great
it is awsome! This video induces emotions and makes to think about, namely we should esteem that what we have. He moved in The New York obtained job, home then lost all it why did he stay there? what does he want to prove? for me that is senseless
Turn your way to God for help homeless guys. Stop addiction if you maybe have. Read the Holy Bible for answers, for consolatian, the New Testament in it for the Gospel. Go to church, ask there for shelter included some work for money. Pray God for forgiveniss of your sins through the powerful work of His Son Jesus Christ. Amen. (that should be the main wish) When you have God, you have everything, He will help you if you are honest and do your best. Pray and work if you can, I am sympatize with you, best to you!
This guy is such a special soul, so pure, honest, open to everything and everyone I think he'll find his way ❤️
He has a deep view of life.
I remember first watching this at 14. I'm 21 now. This was one of many inspirations that moved me to become a photographer and learning videography.
i always find myself coming back to this video. It's so pure
Powerful I pray that you have a place of your own now and all the best in life 💪🏾

Video title: Homeless in New York
Maiko 💖
He speaks the truth! Words of wisdom for sure!

I found the story quite interesting, considering also his perspective which breaks stereotypes on homeless people. Thanks for sharing
Beautifully done. Maiko's story is common for better or for worse.
You are so brave and courageous, I love that. Keep your spirit uplifted always!!

Beautiful cinematography
+Ben Grayzel Thanks Ben.
Fuck you ben
its a beautiful film Nathalie, I stand inspired. Love your work.
going back home...N.Y. is way to expensive for most of us..
That's why I left. Only the rich can afford to enjoy living there. Everyone else just struggles
@@anthonybelt7415 Just like in London, I suppose.
Too

Nice documentary
This is very thought provoking. I think we stereotype of homeless people, but he just seems like a normal guy who has made some bad decisions.
U did good! very inspirational!

Marcella Rae I was thinking if travel voucher s are available for greyhound, airports etc. you just answered my thought
Really; ive never heard that nd how??
This makes me sad
gorgeous!!
This is great.
He is in self-denial which helps him not to be pessimistic.
Beautiful
I'm here in 2018. Is it okay if i ask where Maliko is right now?
He's no longer homeless. He is living in Connecticut, Stamford I believe. I followed him on Instagram; coffeeblooded
Osei Kwame I worked hard and moved out of New York. Worked my way up from renting a spot in a living room to a full house!
@@MaikoNewell Amazing. I hope you're keeping safe out there!!

Go ahead, don't forget to credit me. Good luck!
Great Vid, the music could be sightly lowered in some areas. It was hard to hear him a few times.
After watching ti a second time I choked for a moment. Best of luck to Maiko!
This is killer.

I cannot imagine how that feels, but I want to tell you that God is with you always and he will surely lead you in this journey of faith.
Cool film. What happened to Maiko?
Jan-Hendrik Swanepoel moved to Connecticut, worked my way up from renting a spot in someone’s living room to living in a beautiful house in the woods!
@@MaikoNewell, that's brilliant news, man 🙂 I'm glad to hear you're alright. Good job! It couldn't have been easy.

WHY CANT YOU ?
To truly question freedom is to become homeless
Hey, was just wondering what camera and lens was used for this? Awesome video by the way!
Hey, most of this was shot on the Canon 60d
what was the lens?
Mostly 30mm 1.4
hi! :) nice work! just for curiosity, did u used an external recorder to shot?
great video! what is this color graded with?
Any update on where he’s at now in life
Ik ben er een beetje stil van. Zo goed!
Браво! :)
The poor out number the rich. Why don't we rise up and just take it all back.
Good video but music is like 200% louder than his talk at 3:40
So how long was he homeless? From the video didn't look more than a day or two. Where did he sleep? Go for help?

Great film!! Did you purposefully have dark lighting on your subject later in the interview or did that just happen because the sun went down?
The music is way too loud and overpowering the vocals.
Somebody knows how is he now?
The little things, hope the guy found some help 👍🏻
I think i heard you say you work in retail. So why not get a room???
your video is part of an English assessment.
Blue Life how do you mean?
nathalie basoska I am currently having to do an listening assessment about your video as part of communication 3 class.

Oh man, you are handsome AF 😏
If he shaved and cleaned himself up I could see that....
I have been to NYC once and never again....Almost got robbed at Times Square. Horrible place.
Well if you have a job and saved some money, you can rent a room or something, right?
