A documentary short about a man, his garden and the moments that define us. Special thanks to former WWII lancaster bomber pilot Alex Jenkins and his wife Pauline.
Intense story. Got goosebumbs the whole time especially when he told about the guys that fell out of the airplane. Beautifull tribute to the generation we owe so much to.
Rest in Peace Mr. Jenkins :( Safe flight to your fallen comrades of the AR°F² Lancaster. Thank you for your service and our freedom. We, War Visitors Linkhout, will never forget you and your crew and will commemorate that horrific incident every year.
Congratulations to the team for this beautiful film. An example of visual storytelling that is of the level of excellence to which we all aspire. Bravo!
Didn't do a thing for me in terms of connecting a terrible experience and a desire to end one's life in a garden. Gardening, to me, is such a personal experience of touching the earth, struggling to get it fit to grow beautiful things...and as I age, I find the struggle not only helps me think about and come to grips with some of the terrible things that have happened in my life but to also to learn to accept that I cannot physically do what I used to be able to do. And yet no matter what I can still create beauty there. I could not see any of this man in this garden...it lacked connection...he clearly was too infirm to be able to do much gardening and that was a massive garden. But that's just me. I think the idea was that when he fell into the church yard (which probably held graves) it was such a peaceful place after the terror he had just experienced that is affected him deeply, and that gardens bring that peace back to him. That is beautiful.
I am very thankful to see your documentary I wish you with Hindi Urdu poem Jiye to Apne bagiche mein gulmohar ke tale Mare to gair ke galion me gulmohar ke lia
Mark Dextraze is God’s Gift to ALL OF US. He shows us that there is something uniquely wonderful about each and every one of us. Much like Fred Rogers (Mr.Rogers from PBS) did his whole life, Mark and his family are sending out a real message to humanity.... focus on the abilities and not the disabilities. We all have so much to share and learn from one another when we try to step into another person’s world. They are real insights into many worlds, some of which cannot be learned from books. God Bless the Courageous and the Kind. Thank you for adding to my world.
@@zimik832 Not performative, that would involve the director him/herself engaged in the documentary. This would be a biopic with a huge emphasis on cinematic imagery and scenic/environmental shots and a limited scope.
Awesome job 👌 But why did you blurr out the background at the interview scenes. Would be way better if you had either left it like you recorded it or done it with depth of field. But like i said brillant job
Thanks! Interview scenes were actually shot on a zoom lens so the background blur in the interview is all in camera. I’m a big fan of soft backgrounds, find it keeps the focus on the subject where it should be.
I love how this movie is simple, minimal and on point. Tells you that you do not need to exaggerate a movie to tell a story.
Rest In Peace Alex Jenkins. He died peacefully with his garden...
Intense story. Got goosebumbs the whole time especially when he told about the guys that fell out of the airplane. Beautifull tribute to the generation we owe so much to.
Loved it! Your choice to contrast the dangers of war against Alex's beautiful garden was brilliant.

what sort of camera lens did you use for the interview
That was a Sony FS100 and a kit lens. Pretty old camera by today's standards. Similar camera you'd buy today would be the FS5 or FS7
Background music ?

Hi, I was just curious as to what type of documentary this is?
Today in class we watched this documentary and these are called Performative documentaries where it's more personal and subjective in nature.

the OCD in me really hates the fake blur nevertheless beautiful and dramatic story.
Lovely! And who didn’t like it? 26 people don’t know how to take a moment to enjoy stillness

Although an interesting story, the audio is too muffled, and the music overwhelms his dialogue.
Truely the greatest generation.
Hope he met the Gardener on the best of terms...just bear that in mind, in your own right. Maranatha! Come, Lord Jesus! Come quickly...
Beautifully poignant.
