Thank you SOOOO much man. This video was absolutely well done, I had never got into PC repairing myself even though I use them all the time, and thanks to you I could fix the Jack Power issue. Thank you for being so kind as to sharing your knowledge with others and letting people solve their problems on their own. Thank you, you get a sub, like and everything else ♥️
Thank you for posting this. This is my last Dell after buying many. I bought my youngest son this 559 via Costco in 2016 as a gaming laptop. It is a great machine but very early on there were problems with the power cord seating in the jack. Under the extended warranty, we've even sent it in before and whatever they did, did not fix the problem. He has moved on from this computer but I want to go ahead and make use of it myself since the cpu and memory and graphic card are still pretty good. EXCEPT that the power has been a continual problem. I have replaced the cords for a 3rd time but nothing will work. I have several times looked online and can see that this has been a common problem with this model. This video is the first time I have seen someone point out the direct problem and show how to fix it. After watching your video, I think I could do it, but I don't trust myself so will probably pay someone to install the part. Hopefully, this will fix it and I can get a couple of more years out of it.
Thank you for sharing - your quiet confidence is infectious and encouraged by your video I was able to replace my power jack and also replace a keyboard and fix a loose usb connector along the way.
Thank you! I followed your video instructions step by step and successfully replaced the power jack in my Dell Inspiron 5559. I subscribed to your channel and I look forward to your valuable insight.
Michael, regarding my previous comment, I was able to determine the cause of the 7 white 2 amber blink problem and I now have my laptop back up and running with the battery fully charged, all thanks to your excellent video. My only problem now is that the laptop is running very slowly. I did install a new hard drive, so maybe that's the cause. Anyway, kudos on your very useful video.
This was outstanding. Perfect amount of detail and explanation for a complete novice like myself. Beyond walking me through my first time to take apart a laptop, he actually fixed my problem! Almost bought a new laptop, but decided it was worth a try. Thanks so much Michael!!!
Now I have the same exact problem as your customer, where not only it's telling me it's plugged in but not charging but II accidently yanked that part out because the bottom part of the frame in that area was broken off. I went to go get this this fixed by a pro, but they just ordered me a new battery like I had already done and did nothing for me. I bet they didn't even check to see if it was the DC Jack, had they done so, it probably would've been fix. Waste of money. I don't have neither of the batteries on me now, but I'm gonna order one and see. Hopefully this'll fix it. And if it does, thank you so much. As well for helping take apart and put it back together again.
Great detailed video as usual. Shame it was only in 360p quality. Love your videos. If I ever have a problem with a computer I always check your videos first, and more often than not you will have covered it. Thanks for taking the time to make these.
I noticed that. It was uploaded in 4k. RUclips should still be working on getting the high-resolution versions done. They should show up in an hour or two.
HP and Dell both allow you to start an update of a bios in Windows and then the computer restarts to make that update happen. Most other pc makes and motherboard manufacturers have you put a bios update on a USB flash drive and go into the bios to do the update. Your pc or motherboard maker should have directions on how to do it on their website.
Exact same problem. Slow CPU speed. Power Adapter warning, so had to disable that in BIOS to be able to book. Power adater pin goes into DC Jack loose and has been for a while. And now battery is not charging by that power adapter. Ordered new power adapter, waiting for it to come in 3 days and see if that will solve it without having to replace the DC Power jack. Major surgery is needed to do it, but have nothing to loose as I got all data out and taking it for repairs elsewhere, who knows what they will charge for this $700 laptop and if that will even solve the issue. Great video. I was surprised you found all the right screws back to put into place. Dell by the way now has a new AR Assistant app that can help with disassembly, will try that out.
@@navin4479 thanks you so much men you really help me , when i connect my charger it says plugged in but not charging does that happend to you as well?dc jack its also loose
@@eddiesaucedo3354 Yes and if you look inside the hole in laptop where the power adaptor pin goes, you will see it split. Very easy fix if you have tools to open the laptop case. The jack itself was only $5 in Canada. And yes my power adaptor was loose when plugged in as jack was split and even though charging all these days it finally stopped charging.
Hello Michael, thank you so much, this is really great video and has helped me a lot in understanding disassembly and components of the laptop. Unfortunately, I am getting the same issue with the battery not charging. I replaced new battery, new AC adaptor as well and now replaced the DC jack, but still the problem is not solved. The white light turns on for a few seconds when I plug in the charger but then goes off. It says plugged in but does not charge. Any thoughts what should I do next to troubleshoot this issue. Would really appreciate your response. Thanks.

If the wires going into the dc jack are broken off you need to get a replacement dc jack. Search on Amazon for the laptop model number and dc jack and you'll find one.
Hey I wanted to ask I have a Dell beats notebook and it gets hot now what I wanna ask is do I need to clean the fans like opening it up I haven't cleaned it since I bought it do u think that would solve the issue?
MSI doesn't give service manuals for any of their paptops so it's difficult to say. Try doing a search for the model number of your laptop and the words DC jack. You may find a video where someone has opened it up and repaired the DC jack.

Actually, you may need to change your hard drive and install a copy of windows on it using a flash drive. Now you can open the covers to see if the data cable of the hard drive is plugged in correctly.
Excellent tutorial thank you, tried step by step since I have a 5559 and the exact same symptoms...but unfortunately still no charging the battery (new one), any other suggestion?
Thank you for wonderfull video. I face similar issue with my Dell Inspiron 5000, 5559 laptop. My CPU works at 0.29 - 0.32GHz speed instead of 2.6GHz. Does all Dell Inspiron 5000 5559 has same DC Jack? I am from Canada and on my Dell Inspiron 5000, 5559 has different type of DC Jack.. I don't see the inner pin covered inside plastic but its open. I see two aspects in the video, 1. replacing Jack and 2. Updating BIOS. Does replacing jack is must if CPU operated at 0.20 GHz or upgrading BIOS should be fine?
The CPU running at slow speeds like that means that the CPU is not getting enough power. It can be an issue with the AC adapter or DC jack. It could also be that you don't have the correct AC adapter. If it's not putting out enough wattage for the laptop it can lead to the CPU running slow like that. If you look on the bottom of the laptop you'll find where it has the voltage and amperage requirements which you can then take and figure out the wattage of the adapter you need. If that doesn't get it running at the correct frequency replace the DC jack next.
The bios settings changes you see me doing were required on this computer to get the CPU running at the correct speed. I have not seen that issue before or since so I don't know how common it is. However in that case in the video on that laptop it was necessary to go into the BIOS turn off all the power saving features save restart go back in and turn the back on in order to get the CPU running at the correct frequency.
Michael, believe it or not, another issue has cropped up with my Dell Inspiron 5559 laptop. Now, when it shuts down after not being used for awhile or if I shut it down manually, it won't power up. I used the suggestion of a "hard shutdown" which allows me to power up and restart the laptop, and it runs fine as long as it runs. But the shutdown required another "hard shutdown" to bring it back up. Any ideas?
My AC port broke on an Inspiron 3585 and I was getting slow CPU speed, 0,38 GHZ and when booting up an error would say that it can't determine the wattage of the adapter. Changed the AC port and the same error comes on. Changed the power adapter with a new one, same error. I can't use the computer at all... I tried pulling the battery out to see if the same error comes on and again the same. Can't do a Bios update since the battery sits at 5-7%. Already wasted 35 euros on the parts and don't know what to do...
