The story and subsequent screwing of Dvon is legitimately some of the best storytelling I have ever seen, and im not joking. He cheated his way into the finals, proved himself in his match with Taker, overcame the odds by beating HHH who also cheated to get to the spot he was at, only for all his past sins to come back and cost him the whole tournament.
And till this day, I still think about D-Von's face turn during the finals. It's been long since a storyline moved me THAT much. But it was really perfect. And to think it was all AI.
And yet most of his matches, including the final match, had interferences in favor for him. That was no face turn, it was karma that did D-Von in, and Henning was only giving him his just desserts.
It was such amazing storytelling. D-Von basically only makes it to the final tournament by interference, he's the biggest heel. Suddenly he starts to fight well on his own, cleanly beating opponents nobody would have expected him to beat, slowly becoming a babyface underdog everyone started to root for. But as he reaches the grand final and it looks like he might take home the crown, the demons of his past come back to haunt him and he loses by interference himself.
I’ll never forget the shock as he made it to the finals and starting to root for the Reverend. He went from being the dirtiest winner of the tournament to the fighting underdog. Then of course we witnessed the greatest double turn in wrestling history as Stone Cold used D-Von’s old methods to steal the Kingiest of the Ringiest and become the inaugural WGGP champion. Amazing storytelling🔥
The finals is some of the weirdest and best AI I’ve ever seen. Kevin Nash WALKING OUT on a match is so on brand and is he funnier that he threw the match for HHH. D-Von kicking out of everything that was thrown at him, becoming the biggest babyface after he was the biggest heel after the first tournament. Mr. Perfect helping Austin only to lose his title shot via interference (I remember flair interfered but I don’t remembered who’s side he was on). It just goes to show how magical nL are
cm punk and Carito back and forth battle in the parking lot was funny and add on with jawnny’s wrestling speech which is funny yet at sametime very inspirational about wrestling being entertaining is what matters the most.

Then in the semi finals have the team separate, meaning the person needs to fight on their own. And they pull off a victory but only barley. Then in the finals have them do an amazing match where they might pull off the victory before interference, leading to them losing. Can make any wrestler into a baby face
Rather have him qualiffy as a heel using heel tactics and throughout the tournament win matches vs other heels to build momentum as a babyface and in the final vs another babyface who the fans are bored of sorta have him interract with the fans be more liked cheered and do a double turn in the end. Would be legit awesome.
Oh, I nearly forgot about CM Punk and Carlito....Good god, that was a long, long match. Slip's hysterical laughing, and of course the ending of the Kingiest. Good times!! Thanks Beefy for the recap!!
