    One thing to beware of if you plan to take your own food onto the plane is the agriculture regulations of any country you'll be entering. Anything from fruit and nuts to meat and dairy might be prohibited, and not allowed onto the plane.

    • @charm8167
      @charm8167 Год назад +2

      The flight attendants will tell you to bin any foods left in your bag beforehand of leaving the airplane at your arrival destination if it’s a different country, best to eat all in during the flight, take the food out at the beginning so you’ll remember. The customs department will fine you because of the types of diseases brought in from plant life and foods to their countries eco system.

    Must Have - Global Entry! Always travel with underseat carry-on and an overhead carry-on even if you check luggage.

    • @tandanielle3875
      @tandanielle3875 3 месяца назад

      If you check a bag you shouldn’t need to take up over head bin space. Under the seat bag is plenty to have essentials you need for one night just in case. It would be worth learning how to pack more efficiently. Global entry or Nexus is absolutely worth having. However, if you check a bag it’s not as useful being one of the first passengers through if you have to exist for the checked bag. You se just waiting at the carousel even longer.

    This video is short and sweet. I like the tip to bring a pen that is easily accessible on an international flight. The tip to arrive 3 hours before boarding is helpful. And I will be sure to carry extra set of clothes in my carry-on in case of baggage delays.

    Under seat Carry on only for 2 weeks in Italy.
    Started doing this before Covid when short stuff me had trouble getting my bag into over head. turned around and saw the steward laughing at me. Slow burn. Another passenger helped. Later found out airline stewards & stewardesses are not allowed to put luggage in overhead bin. It’s a union thing to avoid injuries. So I take care of myself. I’m in my 70’s. I just buy the extra stuff when I get to my destination and leave it for the next guest or maids. Also since I jump from place to place, no one knows I wore that flower print dress two days before and washed it in the sink of my hotel.
    Have fun traveling!!

    We WERE planning to check our bags for a 3 week trip to Scotland (from Vancouver) next month, BUT not now!!!! This will force us to really take minimalist packing seriously if only to keep the weight down lifting our bags into the overhead (we are now in our 70s and it gets harder every year). Thanks for all the videos that you do.

      IMHO, ... it would be an idea to MAIL your luggage to your destination ... express courier is expensive, ... but less stressful. ... then keep only some essentials as a small (international) carry on.

      @caroleanne8529 2 года назад +7

      DH and I are also in our 70s now, but have always traveled with only a carry on. You really can do 2 weeks with just a carry on. You do not get dirty traveling and can always stuff underwear into corners of your suitcase. It does not matter if you wear a shirt two days or slacks for 3 days. Nobody cares. It is so much easier to not have to worry about your baggage when it is always with you. Safe travels and I hope you have a wonderful trip. Scotland is very beautiful.

    Carry-on for 3 months in Spain and Norway, and other possible travel. Just did carry-on for 6 weeks in Chile. It's so great to travel light. Especially in Europe, they obviously have everything. I love going to Zara and buying some cheap clothes of the season. And in Barcelona I go to Sephora to get the toiletries I need. Or in smaller towns the pharmacy. Shopping in a foreign country is always fun and challenging! And checking bags is always such a hassle, in my opinion.

    I take 2 checked bags, a carry on and a backpack. For the last 5 years, I have only flown internationally to my house in Thailand, where I’ll be retiring to in 4 years. I have all the clothes and toiletries that I’ll ever need there. Now, I take personal possessions that I don’t want to throw away or sell when I leave. One thing I look for in an International flight is economy classes. I find the cheapest class and avoid it like the plague! United calls it “Basic Economy.” No checked bag, no seat selection, no meals, etc… By the time you pay for a single checked bag (both ways) you have already paid for the “normal” economy class. That way you get meals and such. It’s worth it.

    Just returned from a ten day trip to Europe. We heeded the warnings of baggage chaos at major hubs and successfully did carry-on only including: clothing for a formal wedding and navigating a 30°F temperature difference between Croatia and Scandinavia. Our biggest challenge was the SAS pilot strike, which went into effect midflight. Be aware that you can't simply rebook on a partner airline, or even get answers to any of your questions until your particular flight is officially canceled. If you have booked through a travel agency or Expedia, etc everything needs to go through them (and they don't get the timely push notifications from the airlines that you do). This goes for weather cancelations, etc too. Also, be prepared to pay more for that rebooked seat. The EU does have some strict rules on refunds but you'll have to pay upfront (likely at a higher rate) then wait a few days for your refunds. We're now happily looking forward to revisiting the fantastic places we missed exploring while we were on hold waiting to talk with airline and travel agents (once the airlines and airports get the memo that people really do want to travel again 😀 )!

I buy expensive disposable razors, & clothes I can wash in the sink. I still have to look professional but in my hotel suite I like to be comfy. I use my tablet to charge my electronics I still take clothes to lounge in after work & to meet any sudden visitors. I like to get onto & off a flight asap. I do pack different depending on the purpose / length of a trip. I always take a collapsible water bottle to fill departure side & a few cheese / cracker packs to keep me energised.

    Flew Los Angeles to Beijing in 2011. THANKFULLY the airline agent at check-in warned us that this Chinese airline serves very authentic Chinese food.
    Loaded up on snacks at the gift shop. I have low standards and it still was difficult for me to stomach...was some stinky seaweed dish that made the entire
    cabin of the airplane wreak. (My 5-year old daughter asked out loud, "WHO POO POOED?!" ...yes....was very embarrassing....)
    HOWEVER, the flight from Beijing to L.A. two weeks later was on a different Chinese airline. BEST airline meal I ever had!
    Was a steamed shrimp and rice dish that was fabulous! My mouth still waters thinking about that meal....

I prefer just to have a small shoulder bag with my essentials. But, having no clothes or anything when I arrive might be worse. 🤔

      Definitely carry on. It’s so worth it. No baggage claim wait, no lost bags, just no hassles. What seems like a pain having it with you in the airport is really peace of mind.

      @@chelsabrinkman417 I am compromising... Bringing a light backpack with essentials for a day as a carry on. Then, if my main case gets chucked in the ocean on the way I will at least have a change of clothes before I have to go shopping when I arrive.

    Internationally I still think a meal should be in economy-those can be 17 hour trips!!

      I'm sure they would have to keep Emergency Peanuts to sell for $20/bag to resolve the obvious flyer freakouts after being shorted on a required bodily need. No, nobody will sue when you knowingly deprive hundreds of assorted types of people essential sustenance!!! Reminds me of that old line: I'm mad as Hell & I'm not going to take it anymore!!! Did nobody take Customer Service classes?!!!!

    We've been doing carry on only for many years...especially for international flights. It is so reassuring to get off the plane with my luggage in hand.

    Carry on only, first time going international since I was 17 and my biggest fear when flying is losing my luggage… not risking it for my first time out of the states 😭

    These airlines are screwing themselves by not providing those amenities. We are talking simple luxuries that make air travel comfortable. So many people I know don’t fly now because it’s more hassle than it’s worth.
