In 1974, Bob James released his first album called One. One of the best and most sampled tracks ever is called Nautlius and this video showcases some of the best hip hop artists that have sampled it. Leave a like and a comment and let me know what you think. Should I carry on this type of video with other tracks?

This guy needs an honorary Hip Hop Icon award 🤣This song has been sampled for so many songs. Too many to name here!
This is only one of his tracks. He has countless more samples from different tracks out there. Legend.
Bob James a legendary Jazz Master all up in the hip hop space!! Good music is good music no matter the genre.
His music is amazing and I often listen to his albums.
Bob James is a phenomenon. He just did music and it's all fodder for hiphop artists
He’s one of the most sampled artists
It's safe to add Bob James in that Godfather of Rap category along with James Brown.
He’s been sampled so many times and this video just shows a few from one of his tracks. There are so many more that have been used
So true but I don't believe he sued anyone which further makes him the Godfather of Hip hop and I thank him cause he also gave us nostalgia on a funny sitcom from back in my Day thank you Bob james
He sued Madlib for sampling him
@@thomaskates9925 yeah, initially he had issues with it but he has embraced the Hip-hop community and admires the creativity and the process of sampling. I know there's been talks of him collaborating with DJ Jazzy Jeff and 9th Wonder.
Check the live stuff he did with Rob Swift too. So good.
A few of the other top sampled songs from the 369+ in total:
Children's Story - Slick Rick
Live At The Barbeque - Main Source, Nas, Joe Fatal, Akinyele
Sincerity - MJB feat Nas & DMX
Big Shot - King Sun
To think i first heard this song when i was a kid playing GTA:SA and ironically fell in love with hip-hop. Was today years old (27) when i realized the corelation 🤯
The actual creators of the beat (bass and drums) were Gary King (bass) and Idris Muhammad (drums). Both black.
Not too sure what point you’re trying to make. It was written by Bob James and produced by Creed Taylor, who are both white. There were lots of different musicians involved in playing the actual music, both black and white.
@@DJFurio point made is a white uptight dude like Bob James does not make one of the most samples drum and bass loops in hip hop as it's claimed. Credit is meant to be due and there is no mentioned of the gentlemen who structured the song with their beat.
Wow. How could this be! Insane. Never knew. All from one song 🔥
Why this song? What about it caused it to gravitate to the hip hop scene and to such a crazy degree?
Because
Well I'd never heard this track before but wow apparently it's responsible for like half of old-school hip-hop LOL... That's crazy
Yeah everyone likes to sample from it
And public enemy made a whole album chopping up 'The Grunt' by the JB's lol.
Pete Rock sampled it also in "What's Next on the Menu" and "La Face B Remix" and both were amazing!
Missing Murrays revenge of Murs and 9th wonder!! Nice video!!
Another great sample. There are literally hundreds of people that sampled this track so I just had to pick a few of them.
So bomb! Glad to have found out this fact! Thank you for the beautifully done compilation.
Glad you like it. I’ve made lots more sample videos on my channel if you’re interested
bob james.... you helped make hip hop, hip hop! 😁👍🏾
👍
All these are amazing but I gotta say 9th wonder using this for "Murray's revenge" was my favorite
Fully enjoyed listening to this ride down hip hop history mos appreciated 🫡
Good to hear you like it. Such an amazing track and this is just one of many that have been sampled. I’ve done another Bob James sample video here ruclips.net/video/jgTXbzvp8EA/видео.html
Sample was also used in Pac Blood by Danny Brown
I used to play Jazzy's Groove over and over and over when I got that Fresh Prince album
Gonna have to try to flip some! 🔥
Yeah there are so many different parts to the track that can be flipped
Wow, this video gave me a musical education. I always thought Funky Drummer by James Brown was the most sampled song in the history of Hip Hop
Funky Drummer has been used more times, but a video showing off lots of drums probably wouldn’t be that interesting.
The true godfather of rap
He so talented and this is just one of many of his tracks that have been sampled
Not even. There's an upbeat, rhyming type song that came out in the 40's called preacher and the bear by a black group. So nah, were still the originators of "rap"
Ahhh maaan….you forgot Pete Rock’s Sun Won’t Come Out. One of the best flips of all time. It’s lit though 🔥
COOL G RAPP layouts of brakes and beat
Damn, talk about using every part of the Buffalo with this song.
Definitely. So many different parts of his tracks have been sampled.
Also there's a song from OC sampled from that Bob James record called A Clear Day.
Also used in the song 'Disgusting' by Ganksta NIP.
I would say he's responsible for about a third of all hip hop that exists. The royalties should be considerable.
le han dado duro BOB GENIUS
I've been waiting for someone the sample Bob James' Westchester Lady (my favorite track of his) for years now. C'mon, man, Nautilus is too easy at this point. Tappan Zee needs to be sampled too!
Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince used it back in 88 ruclips.net/video/f5cJtfHVtPE/видео.html
whosampled has 40 entries for Westchester Lady lol
Tappan Zee was used by Arrested Development for their big hit "Everyday People". The song was re-mixed a second time using Tappan Zee .
Crazy this was almost 50 years ago
Such a great track and album
Don't forget the Arsenio Hall All Stars cypher beat
I think it was produced by Pete Rock
It’s been sampled so many times. I just included a few for this video.
@@DJFurio All good, thank you for the sample breakdowns🙏
You forgot Live At The Barbecue from Main Source..
2.30 the first sample of this I heard was dynamic breakers 1983/4.
And yet some are missing lol
9th Wonder for one of the Murs or Buckshot collabo albums, I forgot which one..
Great video concept though, keep them coming!
It’s been sampled hundreds of times so I just chose a selection for this video
@@DJFurio yeah, I figured. I really like your content btw. Keep it up!
Thanks
I know "Nautiluschop", instrumental beat from "Tutankhamen album", 2004, ca. Best tribute ever, imo.
Seems like eventually every hip hop artist has to flip this song.
UltraMagnetic Mc’s💥💥💥💥💥 Ced Gee Delta Force 💪💪💪💪🙏🙏🙏🙏
👍
👏
Did he sue anyone for using his beats?
Lots of times yes. He found out too late for a lot of them though as too much time had passed. Peter Piper is one he was mad about not getting paid for.
You forgot about ultramagnetic mc's delta force
I didn’t forget. It’s just been sampled that many times. I can’t list every single one.
@@DJFurio I understand g
@@marcrivers2001 that might be my fav
You miss a big one Slick Rick's Children's Story
Freddie gibbs Extradite ft black thought
Forgot BIG Shots by King Sun
I’ve not forgotten anything. It’s been sampled about 400 times so I just chose a few to include in a short video.
bob james kind of reminds me of shpongle in a weird way, even the album cover looks a bit like shpongles logo
I get you but I would have said it the other way round. Sphongles logo looks a bit like Bob James as he was first.
@@DJFurio its really not that deep. if i look like my older brother, he looks like me too even though he did it first. im not accusing shpongle of existing before bob obviously. they just have similar inspirations, which isnt a bad thing
edit: their not even the same genre, shpongle is like psychedelic edm and james is more classic jazz. they just happen to share a similar sound, particularly on his album “one”
Dogma Crew Block Massacre 01 intro
9th Wonder and Murs- Murray's Revenge
Think there was a Tim Dog track off his first album that used it Edit: I'll Wax Anybody
Main Source live at the BBQ
Yeah it’s been sampled a crazy amount if times. Way too many to include in one video.
@@DJFurio Your right, just remembered another one Lord Shafiyq My mic is on fire
Daytona 500 will definitely be the best flip of it
Yeah that’s a great use of it for sure
Do Marvin Gaye Mercy Me
Consequence - job song
Rapper king sun
You forgot Danny Brown , Main Source
I didn’t forget it just too many to include in one video. It’s been sampled so many times
@@DJFurio yeah it's alot of samples from Bob James
the sample: original music, creative juices, contemplative. the hip hop: aggressive, no music creativity added, more drums, lyrics about violence.
Uf!
Epmd used thr same sample as Daytona 500 first give them their props they should be the first one shown before Ghostface
There’s loads more that have sampled it. I just included a selection for this video
Rza'was better tho
I am 10 Seconds into the video and I know that you missed a particular track... just you wait
You actually missed a lot
You actually expect me to list every single track that has sampled from it in one video. Around 400 different ones 🤣🤣🤣
