How it started with DJs just cutting up records at first, then to them actually making beats. It's what Premo, Pete Rock and Marley Marl all did at first. They were literal "DJs", before they became Producers. Some kept it in their names(DJ Scratch, DJ Quik, DJ Premier' etc.) Battles in the park turned into battles in the studio. No doubt.

I finally....FINALLY got to see him when he came to Hawaii a few years ago at the Blue Note Hawaii. I've been listening to his music since Bob James One and I think I was 12 years old when it came out. 1974? I've been a fan since. FULL DISCLOSURE - whats my fave Bob James record? It's ""Obsession"..yep, I LOVE THAT RECORD....It came out in 1986 when I was stationed in the Navy at Ft. Meade Maryland. Those songs got me through A SPECIAL TIME IN MY LIFE. His music really helped me through some thangs lol. Angela used to make me cry as a kid when I heard it cause it moved me. When I joined the Navy in 1980 I think "H" was the cassette that I got that year. So anyway, when in Hawaii and when I saw him after the show, he signed my copy of 'Touchdown', the original vinyl that I had since I was a kid. I got the LP for a birthday present that year. He looked at me and said, "oh wow, haven't seen that in a long time." And he smiled. GREAT GUY AND LEGEND - A LEGEND IN MUSIC. The concert session was outstanding btw. He DID NOT DISAPPOINT! ONE OF MY MUSICAL HEROES. 👍🏾 Bob James is an American musical legend - period! Thanks for this!
