I once had a psychiatrist who tried to suppress his tics during a couple of sessions. I was saddened that he did that. Picking up on it made me feel like mental health issues are normalized. I'm also glad she's in special education. She can teach the future generation to understand the ailments and to be sensitive to them.

Her husband is a gem for accepting her and loving who she is. I’ve got mild autism thus feel not so good enough for a woman’s love. Whenever I’m overwhelmed with fear, anger I don’t like to talk or interact with anyone. I open up to people very slowly. I also tend to stutter a lot when nervous.

I don't have Tourette's, but I'm neurodivergent, and I appreciate it when my teachers are open about neurodivergent diagnoses. I remember a science teacher I once had would sometimes talk about his ADHD, and it made me feel much more accepted as an ADHD student. It makes you feel more comfortable in a learning environment when you know that a teacher isn't going to judge you for being neurodivergent because they're the same way, and it's nice to see physical proof that there are people who are like you and are successful. I'm sure the students in her classroom find it comforting that their teacher has some similar struggles to them and still is able to succeed.

I'm 37 years old, been missed, diagnosed with anxiety tics for 10 plus years. When new doctors looked at me thoroughly they said why wasn't I diagnosed with tourette's at 15 or 25 and we explained all the old doctor said it was just anxiety when NO IT WASN'T and by the way you can't get tourette's or tics from the goddamn internet DOESN'T WORK THAT WAY stop being dumb and educate yourself it's not hard It's because of uncle tics that tourette's lad They all have really educated me and my family about tourette's and to have me go to neurology for a legit diagnosis and I'm so happy my knew doctors knew what I was talking about cuz all my other old doctors didn't know what was wrong with me. They just put me on medicine and told me to go home but everything got worse and worse and worse and worse over time. So having suffering tics for 10 plus years when I didn't know what was going on MYSELF It's really really hard

Tourettes is a tough syndrome to deal with. Especially with high school kids. They are very cruel. (Before you come ar me with "so is xyz," so is "abc.") I realize their are afflictions worse, however, MY son has TS, and thats the only one I'm most concerned about. Its exhaysting, youre made fun of, treat less than, hard to make friends....what usually is compounded with TS is OCD, Anxiety, ADD, Impulsive behavior. It can be daunting at times. It can get worse or get better as you get older. My sons tics got better, but his OCD & anxiety got worse. The hood news is everyone will make it thru. A big THANK YOU to bringing awareness!😊

    • @yesthatbruce
      @yesthatbruce 10 месяцев назад

Good comment. Yes, TS can be a real challenge (I have it myself), and I've seen it ruin people's lives. But you're right, it usually does get better. Unlike the stereotypes of people cursing (which is actually very rare), most folks who have TS have mild to moderate cases. Some have cases so mild they never realize they have Tourette's. Moreover, for most kids, their tics disappear as they reach adolescence. They still have TS, and will always have it for life, but they don't tic anymore.

Anyone who bullies others because they’re atypical then there’s something wrong with the bully. No one has control over what they’re born with and it’s not done intentionally.
You’re a wonderful mother and teacher for bringing awareness to Tourette Syndrome. I’m amazed at how much you have tried to control your tics. It’s not an easy thing to do. I have known a couple people who’ve had Tourette’s. Best of luck and I hope you receive everything life has to offer you. ❤

@alissaclayton4 I, too, have a movement disorder and a neurological condition that copies Tourette’s. I am a preschool teacher. What do you teach? Does your movement disorder affect your work? Some days I have difficulty walking while at work, and I sometimes slap myself in front of the kids. Otherwise, I can usually suppress everything until I get home, and then it can get pretty bad. But so far, I am able to play off my odd movements because the kids are so young. They usually just think I am being silly.

What is it with the word 'haters'? Not everyone who disagrees with others is a hater. She's a teacher, she should teach this fact and reintroduce practicing the art of discussion, rather than paint everyone who doesn't understand her illness as a 'hater'. I have misophonia and could imagine getting annoyed about her tourettes, not because I HATE her or her illness, but because I have my own sensitivity which is as much a reflex as tourettes. Life is life.

she.. most likely didn’t choose the title it was probably an editor for the channel.
even so, there are only so many characters for a title
“I’m a Teacher with Tourette’s and People Who Don’t Agree with Me Don’t Understand” doesn’t really even make sense and is a bit much to read while scrolling
it is simply an attention-grabbing statement to intrigue possible viewers into clicking and watching when there are so many other videos out there to watch
      it worked.
you watched it, and you’re engaging with it!
this is why they make titles like this, people like you will click on a video just to type about what they didn’t like about it lol and, in fact, you’re helping yourself to see EVEN MORE content about “haters”
this is how the algorithm works, get smarter instead of complaining about it! at the end of it all, this woman is simply telling her story about living with tourette’s as a mothers and a teacher,
      get over yourself!

I'm sure she's a wonderful person great at her job but if the special needs children are picking up her behaviors I don't think she should be around them closely. She should try teaching children who arent on the spectrum who know not to copy the behaviors regularly teach them about kindness and being different. I have an autistic severe ADHD 5 year old child Charlotte I would not want her picking up other new hitting behaviors or new behaviors she doesn't already do because she does pick up others behaviors like she started prek last year and picked up another child's spitting behavior it was disgusting at home all over in my brand new car it took us over 9 horrible months to get this behavior to stop. Anyhow it's very good that she's not giving up and is successful in her career she is truly an inspiration 🙌. I have OCD, social anxiety and i have ADHD it's not been easy. It's especially not been easy that others see certain behaviors or aspects of your life not Normal like theirs and they judge turn their noses away. I wish everyone was taught that different is ok and be kind. ❤

this video didn't mention ADHD at all. maybe you don't understand psychology, but diagnosis are made by professionals for a reason. to someone who doesn't struggle with mental health issues, it may not seem like a big deal, however it is because these diagnosis are made bcs these people can't function as typical humans and it can at times be debilitating and prevent someone from doing normal daily life things . often they need accommodations and knowing a diagnosis helps with knowing what you need. at times yes they can jus be kids, but kids who get diagnosed get diagnosed by professionals for good reasons, never for normal kid behaviors.

This woman (lovingly I swear) should NOT BE IN EDUCATION. She deserves and needs to take care of her issues before taking care of vulnerable children. Hitting yourself “not once but four times” in front of special education students is horrific. You have the choice of being there. They don’t. You have life experience and understand tics. They don’t. This is completely unfair to her students. Ok now I’m ranting… but as a teacher and a person WITH TICS, this is unacceptable. Absolutely abhorrent.
