A TEENAGER suffers from Tourettes so badly that she has been accused of faking it. Nicole, 14 was diagnosed with Tourettes aged 13 after her mum, Jodie noticed her face and hand tics had developed seemingly overnight. Her vocal tics developed quickly too, and consist of swearing, screaming and whistling, as well as physical arm movements. In moments of extreme emotions, Nicole can sometimes be violent towards herself, scratching and hitting her head. She explained to Truly: “There are moments where you can be really scared, because you don’t know what’s going to happen, or when it’s going to happen.” Nicole also has FND (Functional Neurological Disorder) which means her arms and feet can sometimes lock if her tics get too overwhelming. Despite her diagnosis, a lot of people have accused Nicole of making up her tics for attention, including close family members, and online commenters.

Unfortunately there’s a growing amount of teens on TikTok who think it’s quirky to fake tics. It’s pathetic and half of the blame should be put on them, it’s becoming a problem. In fact faking disorders in general is becoming a real problem on social media platforms in general
On TikTok and YT, it's really sad because then people who actually have TS have a harder time convincing others that they do have TS and they are not doing it for clout or likes!
no wonder people think that she's faking it
My daughter faked it for a while till I brought it up to her doctor. I new she was faking it but decided to bring the dr in and she how she would react. She denied ever saying she had tourettes.
@@tracylj831 Oh my gosh u daughter was faking it I’m so sory I hope she never dose that aging it’s not funny 2 fake anything

This is what happens when people fake it. Actual people with disorders get accused of faking it. Its so disgusting and disturbing.

There's no excuse to accuse someone of faking their disability. Yes there are fakers and its unacceptable but the people accusing anyone and everyone of faking are equally harmful
@@chloebywater174 the problem is that stupid tic toc. After a video of someone with tourettes went viral it became 'popular' to have tics etc. People were faking it for popularity en masses, or as a form of Munchausen syndrome. Loads of twitch streamers have been caught out faking disabilities for donations too.
@@fassolhermani5984 the thing is they don't understand how tics actually work they just think omg I get to cuss and say cute things but they don't realize tics can be dangerous and extremely painful bc I get anxiety tics(not really relevant) and the neck jerks that happen tend to become painful after a while

We literally just had someone call Child protective services and accuse us of faking our daughters Tourette's syndrome... which was so ridiculous. Luckily we have a great support system. But it was such a stressful thing to go through. Thank you for coming forward with your story, I was inspired and we decided to come forward with ours.
doll honestly the worst part was the anxiety it caused my daughter and the tics were so much worse. It was a really bad week.
Omg now that was just over stepping right there
I can’t tell you how much my blood boils from reading your story. The fact accused you of abusing your child because they were ‘faking tourette’s’ is absolutely sickening. Even if that were the case they called miscalled CPS instead of consulting you. I have so many words I’d love to say about these immature cowards but it would make this reply too long. I pray that your family will never ever have to deal with nonsensical legal troubles ever again.
Wow, that's just vile. I'm so sorry that happened to you.
But they might be right because you just don't develop the disorder you have to be born with it

I went to HS with a guy that had Tourette's. While at a Barnes N Noble, a really cute girl walked by and when he saw her he screamed out "Sex! Want SEX!" and the whole cafe went silent.......I still think about it 2-3 times a year
😭
Oh nooo, poor guy
I feel bad 😔🙏hope he's ok
Not laughing at the condition, but I just died laughing😭
This made me laugh, but seriously, poor guy! 😭
One thing I’ve realised having friends with Tourette’s syndrome is that it can be triggered or amplified by stress. Some days are quiet enough where you can cope with minimal interruptions and other days are so overwhelming you just want it to end. We all have good and bad days. Although there is no cure, you can take medication, go to therapy, or spend more time doing hobbies you enjoy to take your mind off of the stress causing your tics to amplify.
It’s really sad thinking that people are saying that she’s faking it. Especially with a bunch of people actually faking Tourettes and other disorders like autism, ADHD, depression, ect. To be quirky and different than others and doing so by essentially making a trend out of real things that people struggle with. There actually are compilation videos of people faking things for attention, like “Oh listen to this you may have ADHD 😳😳😳” as a person with actual ADHD the reactions to it are awful like ADHD does not mean that you have a seizure when you listen to a song that gets louder, it’s not a quirky trend that is just kicks and giggles. If you’re reading this don’t fake things for views you’re not “cute” “quirky” “different” you’re just someone who wants attention and to be different so if you want to stand out please don’t fake things to get the attention, you could always do good and get positive attention through good and honest ways. And to anyone who’s reading this have a nice day ☺️💖
People told me I was faking having autism even kids in my grade told me I was faking but at age 20 I was finally diagnosed and I have to say this “just because u knew me all my life doesn’t mean u know what’s going on in my head”
Amen
Because of all the fake disorders that people create for attention, I no longer believe people in real life when they say they have ADHD, depression, OCD, or really anything else. How do I know they’re telling the truth? Especially if they say it in the middle of a class discussion with the professor and entire rest of the class listening in. Like they probably just want sympathy so they’ll get help and extra points on assignments, because poor them, their “disorder” causes them to turn in bad homework. I feel like if I believe them and give them a shoulder to lean on and support, then I’ll be the dummy in the end when it comes out that they were faking and I was sucked into the lie and gave them all the attention they wanted. I don’t openly accuse people of faking haha, I just assume in my head that they are lying and stop associating with them so much.
I have bad anxiety and I do think some people believe I'm faking. I'm not faking at all but my mom doesn't bother taking me to the doctors and actually find out what's wrong but sometimes in movies when music goes from quiet to loud i freak out and have an anxiety attack. Most of the time I randomly can't focus which causes an anxiety attack. I also have times where I have to touch everything around me I can't help it I just have to. So it makes life really hard and it looks like I'm faking cause my mom doesn't bother with diagnostic therapist of course she has no mental health disorders.
I also have random moments where my full body shakes and my mind goes blank. It's like I got out reality for 2 seconds.
I feel the same way (I also have have ADHD. My sister and I get it from our father.)
Society sucks. People on social media say that "Gen Z thinks they're so quirky faking tics" so much that they say that to people who actually have tics. Gen Z thinks they're so quirky accusing people like that.
Some people do fake tourettes tho
@@versalgraphics Yeah but accusing everyone gen zer of faking tics is bad. Stereotyping is horrible thing to do.
I’m apart of Gen Z and it sucks

But the real dumb people ruined gen z

not all gen Z say that people are faking tics even when they have tics. I have learning difficulties and a physical condition also so nicole going through Tics and being 14 years old girl. she gets bullied for having tics on tik tok
These people have given me confidence to actually seek professional help with my tics. Now on the waitlist for Neurologist. These guys have been inspirational. The one thing i find the most frustrating is of course, all those on Tik Tok and RUclips creating content to mock those with Tic Disorders (including Tourette Syndrome), it just isn't fair on those who actually have it.
She's so inspiring , my son has Tourette's and also finds dancing and music a welcome relief , thank you for spreading awareness and sharing your story 🖤
For me, it's singing that really helps. I was in choir for several years, because when I was singing, I seemed to not really tic at all. I still sing while doing certain tasks, because by focusing on the singing, it somehow helps my brain not fire incorrectly.
Hi! My son is 6 and has had vocal tics for a few years now. He is just starting with motor tics (that ive noticed) any advice for learning to live with it etc? Thank you x

Beautiful lady. And how she can move!
In middle school I knew a boy with Tourette's. He was really mean to me, and I'm convinced that his treatment of me was influenced by his disorder. But I realize that that's no reason to hate everyone--or anyone--with Tourette's, including that guy. Wherever he is, whatever he's doing, I hope he's okay.

I have had Tourette’s syndrome for about a year now but I’ve had tics my whole life I was misdiagnosed at a young age with adhd instead of Tourette syndrome I’m still in the process of getting diagnosed fully. I used to be super self conscious and try to hold them in until I couldn’t it’s honestly super upsetting when I see other people my age fake Tourette’s because in all honesty it sucks u get stared at all the time and people act like u have a disease. Watching Nicole and other people who have Tourette’s has made me more confident and not feel so alone
Personally I have never posted anything on my Tourette’s for the exact reason I’m too scared to deal with others so when I see others do so I think it’s so amazing I hope one day in the future this disorder along with others will be taken seriously instead of mocked
My 8 year old has Tourette’s and I am so proud of her for sharing her story. It’s not an easy one to tell, especially when people can be hurtful.
I noticed that people with tourette's try harder than the average person because we refuse to give up on ourselves with our tics. We turn out to be really great people that know exactly what suffering is because we live our life with it everyday. Thanks for sharing her life.
When I went to see a show with a friend last month, there was a young man two rows behind us who had Tourette's. He made all kinds of sounds throughout the whole show. I'm really glad nobody complained, because he can't help himself and he knows that, which must already be hard enough, he doesn't need uneducated and rude people in his life as well.
I had a disability myself and work with the disabled. If his tics were that bad, he should have walked out until they settled down a bit. He's not the only one at the theater
"you're not a flower" her mom just has a great sense of humour ^^
@dachshunds channel that’s an awful thing to say. Absolute troll
I think what I learnt from being educated abt Tourette’s , is that Tourette’s doesn’t stop you from doing normal everyday things , it just changes how you do them and it’s so inspirational to see 💗
My mum has got FND after banging her head 8 years ago and she almost has tic like fit within her FND. She is fine most of the time other than when she is triggered by certain things like loud noises, temperatures and bad fatigue. Seeing you having something similar really helps me because I have really struggled as young child when she first was diagnosed (paramedics thought she had had a stroke and so was rushed into hospital where she was diagnosed with FND) and as a teenager seeing my mum in pain. Thank you so much for your work Nicole even if you never see this comment.

As a channel that posts so much about people with disabilities, it would be really nice if these videos were more accessible... I just tried watching this with the subtitles and they're SO bad. It doesn't cost much at all to have someone write captions for videos. I'm not deaf/hoh but I know so many people who are, and this video would be completely unintelligible if you needed to rely on the captions exclusively. "Tourettes" is literally "dress" at one point in the captions, and some of the dialogue isn't captioned at all... Please do better!
I agree, I use subtitles a lot because I have difficulties hearing what’s being said if I’m unable to lip read. I just hope this channel pays attention and listens to us and improves its accessibility for people who watch the channel!
@Kay K She said it jst fine, she wasn’t rude at all! They should of been thought about this! They should do better
@Kay K what do you want her to do? How is there a way to say things more "politely"? If you think she's being rude, I would hate to see what you think about someone who's being a total d*ck. Maybe you are very sheltered, idk, but all she did was tell the truth...also, advocating for a marginalized group when they don't have to sounds pretty polite to me! IJS 🤷
@Melissa Micheal I totally agree since I can see that my deaf sister is struggling to understand so I would have to translate things for her in BSL, and she wants her independence but sometimes she needs me. she can lip read and stuff but on videos it’s hard

It kind of bothers me when the lady said “I haven’t noticed the tics because when she’s dancing she forgets” I have a lot of people that tell me stuff like this, like I’m probably not ticcing as much because I’m concentrating not because I forget. It’s not a mental thing, you can’t forget
Judging by your screen name u don't have tics. I'm also epileptic and with the epilepsy foundation as a volunteer. The brain can't do 2 complex tasks at once which is why when she's dancing she doesn't tic and the brain "forgets." A seizure looks similar but it isn't. The brain does it for a different reason. We can't forget because unless u have focal/simple partial type seizures, u lose consciousness which I dont believe happens w/tourette's
@ I have focal, partial and petit mal seizures, along with tics. My diagnosis is focal epilepsy, but my symptoms are all over the place

My Tourettes developed full-blown after my second child was born. Most people are not movement disorder specialists, therefore whatever their opinions are, they are all irrelevant! You have a wonderful disposition and this helps with this disorder.
It is totally obvious that she is not faking. Beautiful young lady..
Love this girl she's so positive. And she has an amazing mom.
I think with the main problem with the whole “You’re faking it” situation is that some people are too quick to assume that everyone with Tourettes or some kind of tick disorder is faking it for attention. Its clear who the people that are being honest are, since faking something like Tourettes is hella difficult to do accurately. But instead of trying to call all the fakers out and give them more attention, we should just not encourage this toxic mindset that *everyone* with Tourettes is being dishonest. Its very harmful.
I agree 100 per cent. Everybody is talking about the fakers and how they harm people who actually do have tics.
I wish the people who accuse anyone with tics of faking were held responsible for being ableist and making assumptions. The fact a small number of people fake it is no excuse. These people are more harmful than the fakers they keep going on about yet they think they on the moral high ground
I’m actually so proud of how far she actually come I’ve followed her journey in TikTok amazing and inspiring girl
I clicked on this video as soon as I saw her gorgeous face I was one of her first followers on TikTok and seeing her makes me so happy she’s inspiring and doesn’t deserve the hate she gets 💕
I'm so thankful to these kind of videos, I didn't knew anything about Tourettes before watching a tv show with a person affected by it and then I got more interested in it and kept me informed through internet and I'm happy people's speaking about it and normalizing it... I've got a couple of friends with tics (not Tourettes though) and I think it's because of these videos that the first time I met them I recognised they were just having tics and everything was okay since they were not hurting themselves, just a bit "noisy", and I just need to give them their time, not finishing their words or watching them weirdly and well, I just think that awareness is important for people affected and for people around them, thank you for sharing your stories with us.
You are so beautiful! Your mom is just an amazing woman that has raised you to be the exact same. Which is why you’re handling it all so very well. I love when you said “I hope there’s a cure, but if not then just get on with it really.” You’re so positive and your British accent is “spot on”. I relate to this so much, you never know if you’re gonna hurt yourself or others, you never know if someone’s gonna maybe even beat you up
It’s so unfortunate that there are people who fake their “Tourette” for attention whilst there are people who have to deal with it on a daily basis.
This must be a daily struggle but she’s soldering on ❤️

soldering is something else as you may know!
I'm 16 years old, I don't have Tourette's disorder but I was diagnosed with anxiety & asd at 14&15 and knowing neurological disabilities/disorders are being more recognised and accepted is so warming, I sometimes have the odd anxiety tic if I'm in a busy public place feeling extremely overwhelmed like my heads gonna fly off and some people do stare if I tic and fall into a meltdown but knowing people are becoming more familiar and respectful over these disabilities really boosts my confidence.
i hope she gets better! and im happy that she has an outlet (like dancing) that helps her have fun, concentrate, be herself, and.. not have her tourette's bugging her. i hope she will be okay, it sounds like it would be so not fun at all to live with
My tics appeared and peaked around her age and diminished greatly after 10 years. It's an unpredictable condition but I also used dance to help energize and focus myself 😊 Keep going girl!

I want to thank this family here for raising awareness for Tourette’s and especially for mentioning you don’t have to be ticcing 24/7 to have Tourette’s. That’s one thing that people use to say I don’t have it and it’s one of the most ridiculous arguments that proves they don’t know what they’re talking about.

Her mom is a goddess for being so supportive and amazing and helpful. its beautiful to see their connection.
What a beautiful, sweet, lovely, funny, smart girl!! Massive love and hugs to you and keep dancing girl!!! God bless you as you learn to cope with such a drastic change, your maturity and positive attitude should be a huge influence on your friends and family
My daughters started after she was prescribed prozac. She also gets told she is faking it for attention. Or that she only does it when people walk in the room. Hers gets worse if she becomes anxious or over stimulated.
I watched a documentary here on RUclips about 6yrs ago on three individuals from the UK with Tourette Syndrome. And whenever they would do what they love/job they loved, their syndromes would disappear. I thought that was amazing.
Well that is the thing. There are people that fake things. Then when the real people have it. Sadly people do not believe them.
Its hard.. stay strong gal! Everything is gonna be ok!❤
I also have tics ( not Tourette’s ) and this is so inspiring to not hide mine. It’s painful and I have to hide things from people. Not many people in my life think they are real cause they just appeared one day (like hers) and I was scared and I had a idea what they were and then people started faking.
This video has truely brought me to tears. I am going through this situation minus the fnd, I really relate to this. thank you for this content, I have sent it to the people in my life who really needed to watch this to be able to better understand my world.
I had a mild form of this when I was about 10 or 11... I started getting really sore eyes and the only way I could fix it was to open them really wide and roll them around. I looked possessed lol. Then I had to pull my hair. I could feel more tics coming on.. but I made a conscious decision that I didn't want to live like that and took up ballet and gymnastics. That really helped me control my body and I grew out of it. I recommend doing some kind of movement exercises, it really helped just like it's helping this girl.
miss girl it’s a neurological disorder and not something u can get rid of
@@brookekatz6154 I agree with you 100% and I apologise if I triggered you into thinking I was being insensitive... I just felt that my story was interesting and I have heard of tics getting better or disappearing during things like singing and dancing, just like how this girls tics go away when she's dancing... I feel very lucky to be a rare case that grew out of it
My older daughter has Tourette’s and the worst part is the loneliness and isolation many feel. Also, My middle daughter has a friend with Tourette’s and she’s and older daughter both have lost some friends because of their condition. The friend with Tourette’s ended up going to an online school and schooling from home. It’s awful. Covid has dramatically increased Tourette’s diagnosis because it’s underlying problem are anxiety, depression, ADD, etc. Thank you for bringing awareness. Parents please talk to your kids about classmates, or friends they might have with any disabilities.
She has such a beautiful smile. Absolutely adore this family. God Bless them. ❤️❤️❤️
I discovered her on TikTok - heartbreaking to watch her struggle sometimes but she’s such a beautiful soul and how anyone can say she’s fake or is just beyond Me! 🤯 Keep being you Nicole because you’re amazing! 🥰
It's so horrible the way people act towards anyone who has a physical or mental challenge. Just remember that you are beautiful and very brave.
I'm so glad FND is being talked about. I've had it since I was 12
